I didn't know that you guys were already aware of the problem. I know
that it will get fixed until then I'm kind of forced to boot windows
and use iTunes.
Thanks Joe

[Bug 61237] Re: Drag 'n Drop in list view doesn't work

2009-10-29 Thread Joe T
Option 1 is also not at all obvious. Many people migrating from Windows
will be expecting to be able to simply drag and drop into the main area,
and to be quite frank I would expect that as well. Additionally, what
if the current path is not in "button" mode but in "text" mode; is it
possible then?

Obviously option 3 would be a big step up from the currently
functionality, but still it would be inferior to the Windows
implementation. In Windows the only non-whitespace is the area occupied
by the filename, not the entire filename column; imagine if you turned
off all columns except the filename column, the problem would still be
there since option 3 is not possible.

[Bug 61237] Re: Drag 'n Drop in list view doesn't work

2009-09-24 Thread Joe T
This problem needs to be fixed asap. If we're talking about usability,
this could be a crucial turnoff for people new to Ubuntu. I would
certainly rate this as __the__ biggest annoyance in the Ubuntu user
interface (being a user of list view). The solution is to make every
area of the window into drag 'n' drop "whitespace", apart from the
file/folder names. This is how Windows does it, and I cannot think of
any better way.

I encountered this bug a while back, but it appeared to be fixed by some
update. As of the last set of updates I installed, the bug is now back.
I cannot continue working after resume since the screen the completely
blank (but the backlight is on).

[Bug 1270788] Re: logging out of guest session should notify that data will be cleared

2015-05-19 Thread Joe T
I am glad that Bug #435930 has been addressed, but I agree with Julian
that this is still a significant design flaw. Imagine if Microsoft Word
displayed the message on launch, "Warning: changes to this document will
be lost unless you save it to file before closing Word", and then gave
absolutely no warning when closing the document. Ask this question: if
an average computer user lost their data because Ubuntu didn't warn at
logout, would they blame themselves or Ubuntu? I think the answer is
clear.

[Bug 1387251] [NEW] apparmor conflict with precise cloud archive

2014-10-29 Thread Joe T
Public bug reported:

The new release of libvirt (1.2.2-0ubuntu13.1.6) that is availabie in
the precise-updates cloud archive breaks apparmor:

rc apparmor 2.7.102-0ubuntu3.10
User-space parser utility for AppArmor

With apparmor broken, I'm unable to reboot any instances in my OpenStack
cloud:

Returning exception internal error: cannot load AppArmor profile
'libvirt-4c758977-35fb-45ae-961c-efdb5ef4db3f' to caller

I did not try any other action such as launching or deleting instances.

In order to resolve this, I had to re-install the prior version of
libvirt (1.2.2-0ubuntu13.1.2~cloud0) and then reinstall apparmor.

Is this a bug? Should this version of libvirt not be in precise and only
trusty?

[Bug 1016617] Re: Dell c6220 Unable to Reboot

2012-09-19 Thread Joe T
I had the motherboards on 2 c6220 nodes replaced. These motherboards
came with BIOS version 1.0.21. I have just done about an hour of
testing and can confirm that nox2apic does not fix the reboot issue on
these two servers. I tried several kernel versions as well -- no
difference.

I can still confirm that nox2apic still works with BIOS version 1.0.14.
This does not help in the long-run, though.

[Bug 997978] Re: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network

2012-09-25 Thread Joe T
Hello,

Prior to applying the qemu package in Soren's PPA, we were able to
reproduce this problem within 45 minutes (on average). We're now up to
22 hours (and climbing) without an issue.

If anyone is curious, here is the test setup that we have been using
with OpenStack:

---

nova boot --image cfefd40f-be71-4c93-b480-c9964689f5ce --key_name sandbox
--flavor 2 dhcp-1

dhcp-1> sudo su
dhcp-1> apt-get iperf

nova boot --image cfefd40f-be71-4c93-b480-c9964689f5ce --key_name
sandbox --flavor 2 dhcp-2

dhcp-2> sudo su
dhcp-2> apt-get iperf
dhcp-2> iperf -s

dhcp-1> iperf -c dhcp-1 -t 86400 -i 10

---

We tested the -proposed packages yesterday and are confident that they
resolve the issue. We used the test scenario described in comment #101.

Servers that have not had the updated package applied failed the test
within an hour. Servers with the updated package did not fail the test.

2012-08-10 Thread Joe T
Hi Chris,

Thanks for the note. Just for the record I'm also working with Peter et
al in Landscape on this issue.

But just for verbosity and for anyone else who looks up this bug: at
this time it does look like nox2apic resolves this issue. I'm currently
testing it long-term as well as seeing if it disables anything necessary
in the server.

Thanks,

[Bug 1047059] Re: Packaging Issues into Ubuntu 12.04

2012-09-09 Thread Joe T
Hello,

The latest cinder-common package seem to set the ownership of
/var/lib/cinder and /var/log/cinder as "750:adm".

750 is an unresolvable uid. The "cinder" user is added to the system
using the next consecutive uid -- in my current test server, it is 117.

[Bug 1016617] [NEW] Dell c6220 Unable to Reboot

2012-06-22 Thread Joe T
Public bug reported:

Hello,

A related question with further details can be found in Question 200904.

Even more details can be found:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/152766/ubuntu-12-04-fails-to-boot-after-
reboot

Basically, Dell c6220's running Ubuntu 12.04 cannot properly reboot
unless the "nolapic" kernel option is set. If this kernel option is set,
then issuing the "reboot" command or "ctrl-alt-del" will result in the
server rebooting, but upon POST, the fans will rev up and not stop.

"shutdown -h now" will cause this to happen the next time the power
button is pushed.

Occasionally (10% of the time), the server will get past POST, but will
just freeze right before GRUB is to take over.

Thanks,
Joe

2012-11-15 Thread Joe T
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 435930 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/435930

My brother just lost several hours' worth of work because of this
"feature" of Ubuntu. Needless to say, the chances of him ever seriously
considering using Ubuntu in the future are now precisely zero. As you
can imagine, he was fairly vocal about what he thought of Ubuntu, and
quite frankly, I couldn't think of anything to say in Ubuntu's defense.

Why would "Linux For Human Beings" assume that anyone knew about this
behaviour? As it stands, this is nothing more than Ubuntu deleting your
files without asking and without warning.
