Re: [Bug 999970] Re: 12.04 Upgrade Results in a DNS Issue
Thomas, Already restored symbolic link and configured network using /etc/network/interfaces, and everything is now working correctly. Initially, I did not use the /etc/network/interfaces file to configure my network interfaces. Since I had installed the desktop GUI, I had used the network GUI application that came bundled with the install. This application enabled me to define my static IPs (for both of my network cards), DNS servers, network mask, and gateway similiar to the way a Windows Server would. (I am running on a DMZ using NAT through my SonicWall). I'm not certain if the way I had initially configured it plays a role here. However, I now decided to just configure the /etc/network/interfaces file instead. Hope this helps, Jim On Tue, May 22, 2012 at 6:43 AM, Thomas Hood <999...@bugs.launchpad.net>wrote: > Jim Beasley: > > It would be helpful if you would restore the symbolic link > >mv /etc/resolv.conf /etc/resolv.conf_MINE >ln -s ../run/resolvconf/resolv.conf /etc/resolv.conf > > and work with us to figure out why the dynamically generated file > /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf fails to contain the expected nameserver > addresses. > > With what utility (ifup, NetworkManager, dhclient on the command > line...) do you configure each of your interfaces? Thomas, Sorry for not getting back with you earlier on this. I had to leave the office yesterday. The application the I used while I was on release 11.10 of Ubuntu was called "Network Connections" in the GUI and it is located at /usr/bin/nm-connection-editor. I started by installing a clean copy of Ubuntu 11.10 Server for amd64 (from an iso file that I downloaded) on a new system. [Bug 999970] [NEW] 12.04 Upgrade Results in a DNS Issue
Public bug reported: Just upgraded from 11.04 to ubuntu 12.04 LTS, and lost the capability to resolve names on the system. There were no problems indicated during the install, however after the install performed the reboot, I have not been able to resolve any domain names. My network cards all have my ISP's DNS configured as they were prior to the install. but still unable to resolve domains. Is this a known problem? Does anyone have an idea what the problem might be? ** Affects: resolvconf (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/70 Title: 12.04 Upgrade Results in a DNS Issue To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/resolvconf/+bug/70/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 999970] Re: 12.04 Upgrade Results in a DNS Issue
I corrected this issue my adding a resolv.conf in my /etc directory. I did have a symbolic link there that pointed to a resolv.conf in a /run/resolvconf/ directory, however that file only had a comment line in it no nameservers! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/70 Title: 12.04 Upgrade Results in a DNS Issue To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/resolvconf/+bug/70/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
