[Bug 388277] Re: rsync document is vague and frustrating
Documentation updated at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/rsync I don't really recommend the daemon means at all to non-experienced users, it's cumbersome and time consuming. Mounting a local share to do a local backup or doing it over ssh (easiest of all) are both far preferred. Accordingly, I've highlighted both these means and discouraged the later. I'd personally delete all that daemon stuff but always best to leave alternatives. I've cleared it up I believe, if more clarification needed I'll try and be more verbose. -- rsync document is vague and frustrating https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/388277 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 588973] Re: Touchpad settings reset suspend/resume
I can confirm this just recently started happening on my Kubuntu 13.10 install. Not sure I want to retest on an alpha version, that would take a bit of time and be a bit unstable I assume. Perhaps on the weekend. For now I'll try to replicate it on my current install so we can have a baseline for comparison. I'll then use apport to collect info for the bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/588973 Title: Touchpad settings reset suspend/resume To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/588973/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 588973] Re: Touchpad settings reset suspend/resume
I thought about it a bit more and don't want to spam people with the command. I'll wait until Christopher or another dev responds on whether or not he wants me to run that command while on 13.10. Don't want to needlessly spam. I'm a bit hesitant to go to the alpha mainly due to time to install then downgrade if its unusable. I can say that what happens on 13.10 is that when I resume Kubuntu, the cursor no longer moves at all. I can still use it to scroll along the right edge up/down a page like on firefox but clicking the buttons or trying to move the cursor position doesn't do anything. It appears to be the same as this bug, just slightly different manifestation. For the record my notebook is a System76 lemur2 model and xinput reports the touchpad as: SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad I would have added this in to the above but LP doesn't let you edit comments? I'm not a big LP user. I am willing to help if a dev seriously wants to investigate.
[Bug 1272740] [NEW] On Resume of Notebook Cursor No Longer Moves
Public bug reported: The bug basically makes the cursor useless. Upon resuming the computer, the cursor no longer moves in the x/y planes on the screen. The TouchPad does seem to respond to some events still as I can use it to scroll up/down on a focused window like Firefox. I can also use the left/right click buttons and those seem to work as expected given the right context. I can still use the keyboard to navigate and do things, I usually end up restarting the computer to quickly reset from the bug. In case my Notebooks model isn't in the attached information, this is a System76 Lemur Model 2. I'm using Kubuntu 13.10 64 bit release. The version of xorg package installed is: 1:7.7+1ubuntu6 Also, I have time and am able to help with debugging this if I can help. Steps To Reproduce: I put computer to sleep from the KMenu. I waiit a few moments and then log back in with keyboard after resuming. Does not happen on every sleep. Almost guaranteed to occur after about 5 or 6 tries. I didn't notice this on previous editions of Kubuntu. [Bug 1272740] Re: [System76 Lemur UltraThin 2] On Resume of Notebook Cursor No Longer Moves
Hi Christopher. I retested by installing the latest image on my notebook, the current daily seems to have other problems impeding testing of this bug. Among other things, it seems I can only put it to sleep once. I can resume successfully from this sleep but when I sleep it again it just locks and remains on never suspending. The cursor didn't get frozen the one time I did resume from sleep but it seems like testing this at the moment might not work. I have to reboot after this to get it to sleep again. [Bug 1272740] Re: [System76 Lemur UltraThin 2] On Resume of Notebook Cursor No Longer Moves
Not to my knowledge. I don't remember ever seeing this bug before and I'm pretty sure I would have remembered something annoying like this. I guess I'll keep retesting the ISO weekly or so until I can determine if it actually recurs. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1272740 Title: [System76 Lemur UltraThin 2] On Resume of Notebook Cursor No Longer Moves To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1272740/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1272740] Re: [System76 Lemur UltraThin 2] On Resume of Notebook Cursor No Longer Moves
I can't say I've formally tested for this particular bug on anything except 13.10 and 14.04 that I just did the other day. I have been using the notebook continuously since 10.10 I believe and update to the latest roughly 1-2 months after each release. This is the first time I see the bug. I hope that's clearer. I'm fairly sure it was only introduced in 13.10, I may reinstall a 13.04 disc soonish to confirm my hypothesis. To summarize in table form: 10.10 - 13.04 -> Pretty sure this bug doesn't present. Though not formally tested, just by memory. 13.10 -> Has bug. 14.04 -> Too unstable to test. Will try again later.
[Bug 868904] Re: Redshift fails to start with session due to geoclue failure
I've recently started using f.lux and settled on this program for when I'm using Linux. I ran into this and investigated the issue a bit. It appears that the problem is hostip.info simply isn't reliable. Geoclue via hostip was working fine until my ability to reach the server ended. I assume the problem lies with hostip server and when it cannot even establish a connection geoclueinstantly fails rather than ping it on some schedule. For those wanting to use this program reliably without having to depend on either geoclue OR gnome-clock as a location provider, I'd recommend manual configuration. You can do this using the legacy manual lat/lon command. Find your current location using another service such as http://www.itouchmap.com/latlong.html. Some people above seemed confused by the format for redshift's manual command, it follows standard +/- notation where +latitude is north and - latitude is south and + longitude is east while -longitude is west. Command example: redshift -t 6500:3400 -l 43.63:-79.33 & The above command starts redshift with coordinates for Toronto area of Canada, I have also provided new defaults for daytime/night color values (same values as f.lux) with -t. The & makes the process execute in the background. Likely redshift should find a more reliable internet mechanism than hostip.info for the future though it isn't really the programs fault. As a final note, if you are like me and don't want to have to execute that on each reboot. I'd advise putting that in a tiny script and having it execute on startup via whatever startup manager/process your flavor of Ubuntu uses. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/868904 Title: Redshift fails to start with session due to geoclue failure To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/redshift/+bug/868904/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
