[Bug 350001] [NEW] evtouch doesn't work with eee top touch screen

2009-03-27 Thread Jeppester
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evtouch

This bug occurs in the jaunty jackalope beta (9.04).

In Ubuntu 8.10, it's possible to make the touch screen on an "eee top
1602" working reasonable using the xserver-xorg-input-evtouch module
using the following configuration:

The touchscreen-related-parts of "/etc/X11/xorg.conf":

Section "ServerLayout"
  InputDevice"Touch0"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"
  Identifier"Touch0"
  Driver"evtouch"
  Option"device""/dev/input/evtouch"
  Option"MinX""1"
  Option"MinY""1"
  Option"MaxX""4096"
  Option"MaxY""4096"
  Option"ReportingMode" "Raw"
  Option"Emulate3Buttons" "false"
  Option"Emulate3Timeout" "50"
  Option"SendCoreEvents" "on"
  Option"MoveLimit" "0"
EndSection

And the following "/etc/udev/rules.d/69-touchscreen.rules" (which eases
pointing out the right device in the xorg-configuration):

KERNEL=="event*", SUBSYSTEM=="input", ATTRS{idVendor}=="1bfd",
ATTRS{idProduct}=="1688", SYMLINK+="input/evtouch"

However, in 9.04 beta, when using the exact same settings, the screen only
detects a touch at the "MaxX" and "MaxY"-values (I've experimented with
different values), no matter where it is touched, making the touch screen
completely useless.

The xserver-xorg-input-evtouch package versions used:
In 8.10: "0.8.7-4build1"
In 9.04 Beta: "0.8.8-0ubuntu2"

[Bug 350001] Re: evtouch doesn't work with eee top touch screen

2009-04-10 Thread Jeppester
I've just installed the 9.04 beta in order to add the missing xorg.log
and lspci. Fortunately, the bug seems not to occur using the latest
version of the evtouch package (0.8.8-0ubuntu3).

If the bug still doesn't occur when I've updated my system, I'll
consider this bug fixed.

I've now finished updating my system. The touch screen still works
correctly, so I consider this bug as fixed.

The bug isn't present anymore in xserver-xorg-input-evtouch version
"0.8.8-0ubuntu3".

[Bug 355743] Re: [GMA X4500HD] Video mode changes freeze system

2009-11-19 Thread Jeppester
I'm having the same issue with the following mainboard: Asus p5q-vm,
using the G45-ICH10 chipset, and X4500HD integrated graphics.

The freeze occurs both in 9.04 and 9.10, and it renders the system
completely unrespondable.

The behaevior in 9.04 follows the patterns below:

The system freezes about 7 out of 10 times when booting. The freeze
always happens while the system is loading the hardware drivers.

If I get past "Loading hardware drivers" the system is stable, and can
be used for days without freezes.

Recovery mode works fine, and it's possible to log in as root to check
the logfiles. The only thing I get from them though, is that the system
crashes while "Loading hardware drivers", I can get the same output at
boot by removing usplash.

In 9.10 I'm unable to even make it to the login prompt. Either the
system crashes under the splash screen, or it crashes when starting gdm.
Recovery mode doesn't work neither, so I'm pretty much unable to get any
output.

In both 9.10 and 9.04 the filesystem gets corrupted after a couple of
freezes. In 9.04 I can fix this by running fsck in recovery mode and
reboot (untill the corruption happens again after a couple of freezes).
In 9.10 I'm unable to fix the corruption since I can't boot in recovery
mode.

Both the live-CD for 9.10 and for 9.04 boot without any problems.

Since the freeze makes the computer completely unusuable, buying the
mainboard was a complete wast of money.
