[Bug 1787364] [NEW] Whole desktop crash when opening browsing window

2018-08-16 Thread Jaufré Aligé
Public bug reported:

Hello everyone,

I have 3 totaly different machines affected here.

First : AMD processor Nvidia Graphics card and nvidia-390
Second : Laptop Intel / Nvidia with nvidia-driver-396
Third : AMD Ryzen 7 2700X + nvidia-driver-390

On each one, this happened at least one time :
Working with many windows, then try to open a browsing window (a "save as"
Screenshot of an example that crashed last time as attachment) then → black
screen.

Sometimes, just CTRL + ALT+ 1 then CTRL + ALT + 2 and wait... fixes itself.
Most of the time, still black.

if CTRL+ALT+3 → log in → killall nautilus, firefox and people involved... 50%
chances it stays blocked.
If you try a sudo service gdm restart, you can log in again then black
screen !

You have to reboot.

[Bug 1787364] Re: Whole desktop crash when opening browsing window

2018-08-19 Thread Jaufré Aligé
This time I got my blender window back but nother else. Gnome is dead, no
windows, nothing. I used :
DISPLAY=:1.0 compiz --replace &
to restart compiz but it looks like it was not the true culprit here :-(

[Bug 1787364] Re: Whole desktop crash when opening browsing window

2018-08-19 Thread Jaufré Aligé
If I close Blender, I have the desktop. Nautilus is ok. I can right-
click and open a terminal too. The terminal and Nautilus windows have
headers, I can move them.

So I tried, in a terminal :
gnome-shell --replace &

hesitated, back to no bars
Again CTRL + ALT + F3
DISPLAY=:1.0 gnome-shell replace &
black screen
DISPLAY=:1.0 compiz replace &
CTRL+ALT+F2, back to windows and no bars
DISPLAY=:1.0 gnome-shell replace & → nothing
I insist and, in a new terminal :
DISPLAY=:1.0 gnome-shell replace &

This time everything gets back to normal yy !

Looks like it really is a gnome shell bug !

[Bug 1553211] Re: impossible to install "technical" packages (plugins, kernels...)

2016-03-12 Thread Jaufré Aligé
ok but just think like NORMAL people ! Example : How will they install gimp
plugins ?!
They will have to do it the "windows" way or use a command line. Some of
them... won't like it. Trust me, I'm installing and teaching to "normal" people
everyday. The simple "additional content" section in softwares descriptions was
a great "plus".

I'll make a Youtube tutorial on how use synaptic for my customers, but
honestly, it's few ridiculous.
There should be an "advanced mode". Going back to grandpa synaptic is a
regression.

[Bug 1606238] [NEW] gnome-software won't open

2016-07-25 Thread Jaufré Aligé
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I upgrade the system from Ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04 some time ago.
At beginning, gnome-software refused to open and I had to remove old ubuntu
software and "--reinstall" the gnome-software.
Everything was fine, except for many sorts of packages it can't install so I
installed synaptic.

Some days ago, gnome software went on a strike but claimed nothing !
I can open a terminal and call gnome-software : nothing
The launcher turns around in the dock.

Any Idea ?

[Bug 1606238] Re: gnome-software won't open

2016-07-25 Thread Jaufré Aligé
This time, it's a laptop. Old one with amd cpu and 911 nvidia GPU.
Nvidia driver 340.

Gnome-software opens and asks for update so every package can be
displayed.

I installed updates, removed nvidia driver (nouveau is more stable on
this old machine), installed vlc, ffmpeg, libavcodec-extra, libavtools,
synaptic, chromium-browser (everything with sudo apt update | remove |
install).

[Bug 1581786] Re: cannot open libgtkmm-2.4.so.1 no launch

2016-05-19 Thread Jaufré Aligé
Ok, it's fixed. I used to Synaptic to reinstall every gnome library and
now it works.

Looks like it was some kind of distribution upgrade problem.

[Bug 1606238] Re: gnome-software won't open

2016-08-01 Thread Jaufré Aligé
On the desktop machine (from where I reported this bug for the first time)
I just removed every file inside ~/.local/share/gnome-software/ folder.
A moment later (didn't touch the machine), I installed the updates. "sudo apt
update && sudo apt full-upgrade -y"
Then I had to go, so I shutted down the computer.
When I turned it on again, I could open ubuntu|gnome software from the dash and
installed mypaint without any problem...
The laptop is not mine, so I'll try with it next week.

[Bug 1606238] Re: gnome-software won't open

2016-08-05 Thread Jaufré Aligé
The problem is that the old ubuntu-software was replaced by GS in 16.04.
It is a LTS, it is supposed to be stable and trust me, some
professionnals are really pissed of. I have to fix it for free for my
customers or they will ask to leave Ubuntu...

[Bug 1487471] [NEW] Udev rule for MTP with nvidia Shield

2015-08-21 Thread Jaufré Aligé
Public bug reported:

Hello,

Nvidia shield tab won't connect with mtp protocol on Ubuntu 14.04.3
It's a big trouble, many users tell me cameras or Svidia Shield are not
supported.

To fix it for Nvidia Shield, we need to add the following Udev rule :

in file /lib/udev/rules.d/69-libmtp.rules

add this line :
ATTR{idVendor}=="0955", ATTR{idProduct}=="cf07", SYMLINK+="libmtp-%k",
MODE="660", GROUP="audio", ENV{ID_MTP_DEVICE}="1", ENV{ID_MEDIA_PLAYER}="1"

instead of the controls.

[Bug 1511110] [NEW] Many priinters not working hplip NEEDS update in ubuntu 14.04LTS

2015-10-28 Thread Jaufré Aligé
Public bug reported:

hplip on Ubuntu 14.04 is hplip 3.14.3
But the printers sold nowadays need 3.15.9

This is a BIG problem ! You can't ask normal people in a normal office to go to
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html
and install it in a so ugly terminal method lol

Please, we need 3.15 !

[Bug 1553211] [NEW] impossible to install "technical" packages (plugins, kernels...)

2016-03-04 Thread Jaufré Aligé
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 16.04 will be useless for "normal" people if they can't find every
software package as they did before.
To force users to use gnome-software will be a regression !

Exemples :

In old Software Center, you could add add gimp plug-ins by going in gimp
description and check the plug-ins you wanted !
In old Software Center, you could install an other version of linux kernel by
typing "linux" then click at bottom left to show the packages.

Now, they have to use apt-get or install synaptic !

2015-02-15 Thread Jaufré Aligé
now you can use nvidia proprietary driver 346

Just use our friend Michael Marley's ppa :

Add ppa, update cache, install nvidia-346 and reboot :
sudo bash -c "sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mamarley/nvidia -y && apt-get update
&& apt-get install nvidia-346 -y && reboot"

I hope nouveau will improve...

[Bug 1421847] Re: No webcam video input ubuntu 14.04 x86_64

2015-02-17 Thread Jaufré Aligé
Hi,

On the machine with Ubuntu 14.04 x86_64, I came back on
3.13.0-45-generic kernel and reinstalled my nvidia drivers, then I
tried qv4l2 and it worked. I don't understand. I just tried on a second
machine where I installed Ubuntu 14.04 and ... It works.

Could it be a package upgrade problem ?

I'll try with a customer's machine, with here Logitech cam on thursday
19 and tell you.

Thanks,
Jau

Hello again,

Sry I'm late.. It looks like it's fixed from Wednesday with kernel 3.13.0-46.
I'm relieved !
My cams work again and my customer's too. I don't know what was done, I don't
even know if it came from kernel package but it' looks fixed.

Thx,

2014-05-13 Thread Jaufré Aligé

[Bug 1318946] Re: No comeback from sleep

2014-05-13 Thread Jaufré Aligé
Same thing on a customer's machine with an AMD athlong 64 X2 4000+ and a 8400gt.
It's using proprietary driver.

Strange thing : If I change ACPI Suspend Type from S1&S3 to S1(POS),
then it goes to sleep (with a strange signal to monitor) then comes back
without problem.

Maybe it's a kernel problem.

I updated the bios.
versuib 1503
03/17/2014

It looks fixed on my own computer but my customer's motherboard (M2A-VM) is way
too old lol.
If we are only compatible with last motherboards... it's like using wind**s :-(

[Bug 1311176] Re: crash deja-dup backup ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xc3

2014-04-30 Thread Jaufré Aligé
Maybe there is something else because it stoped when I changed the files
owner on the server.

The strange thing is :
ACL are activated on the server's partition.
The original owner of the files and the actual are both authorised to rwx on
all the backup files.

Why Duplicity would have write problems if it's loged in as the new user
? I just did "chown seconduser".

  If I install nvidia-experimental-310 driver from packages or from
  nvidia, I have a black screen at Launch (before logging in).

  At first, when I installed raring, it worked, then I installed
nvidia-experimental-310 and nvidia-cuda-toolkit (for blender).
  After that, black screen.
  When I start with open source driver (sudo apt-get remove
nvidia-experimental-310 nvidia-cuda-toolkit), I can log in then.. no unity and
crash if launched.
+
+ I tried to install ccsm and activate Unity Plugin but it disables itself
+ and same thing for OpenGL in General category.

I tried a startx and It told me that I had the nvidia-313-updates kernel
modules... I removed it and reinstalled nvidia-expermimental-310 and
nvidia-cuda-toolkit.

But I can't use Unity !
