[Bug 1741891] [NEW] The updated driver in this question causes Unity to crash on Intel graphics cards

2018-01-08 Thread Jaime Cruz
Public bug reported:

Not sure what happened but hoping someone can help. Running Trusty Tahr
on a Thinkpad T410. Ever since Thursday morning (October 26) when I
applied the latest updates, Unity crashes every time I click the "Search
your computer" icon at the top of the launcher. Pressing the "Super" key
causes the same crash. The "Shutdown" and "Restart" buttons don't do
anything (I have to open the terminal and enter "sudo shutdown" to shut
down the computer). HELP! More than happy to provide ANY documentation
you require. My desktop computer (an HP Pavilion) is at the exact same
maintenance level and is not experiencing this problem.

[Bug 1327532] [NEW] err:module:attach_process_dlls "krnl386.exe16" failed to initialize, aborting

2014-06-07 Thread Jaime Cruz
Public bug reported:

After installing the latest software updates to Trusty, my Win16 apps no
longer launch. Attempting to launch from the command line yields the
following error messages:

err:module:attach_process_dlls "krnl386.exe16" failed to initialize, aborting
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for
L"C:\\windows\\system32\\winevdm.exe" failed, status c005

Running the 64-bit version of Trusty with the lastest 3.13.0-29 kernel.
It worked with the previous 3.13.0-27 kernel.

Thanks,

[Bug 1327532] Re: err:module:attach_process_dlls "krnl386.exe16" failed to initialize, aborting

2014-06-29 Thread Jaime Cruz
I'm going to need some help here running that process outlined. I know
the Win16 apps work with the 3.13.0-27-generic kernel, and that they
were broken in the 3.13.0-29-generic kernel. I've solved MY problem by
reinstalling the 3.13.0-27-generic kernel and "pinning" it so I doesn't
get over-written by the automated update process. However, I WOULD like
to see the problem fixed in an upstream kernel.

I'm a n00b, so the kernel names on that link you gave me mean nothing,
really. How do I know which kernel corresponds to the GA
3.13.0-27-generic kernel, and which one corresponds to the
3.13.0-29-generic kernel and if I find the time I'll run through that
process outlined above. Barring that, I'd be more than happy to provide
the files to install a Win16 app so someone else can play with this
problem. Let me know?

[Bug 1327532] Re: err:module:attach_process_dlls "krnl386.exe16" failed to initialize, aborting

2014-06-13 Thread Jaime Cruz
And just confirmed it works with 3.14.0-031400-generic.

So it works with the 3.13 kernel up to 3.13.0-27-generic but is broken
in every version I've tested of the 3.13 kernels. It works in both of
the 3.14 kernels I've tested, so it looks like it got broken somewhere
between 3.13.0-27-generic and 3.13.0-29-generic.

[Bug 1327532] Re: err:module:attach_process_dlls "krnl386.exe16" failed to initialize, aborting

2014-07-16 Thread Jaime Cruz
Did some research. That fix is not available in the 3.13 kernel, it is
apparently only in the 3.14 kernel. I've pinned the 3.13 kernel at the
"27" level so I'm good for the time being. I understand Linus and the
WINE team are looking for a way around this issue so SOMETHING should be
coming soon.

[Bug 1309508] Re: Chromium doesn't use Icedtea Java NPAPI plugin

2014-07-23 Thread Jaime Cruz
Apple's Quicktime also does not work in Chrome. It was pretty much a
MONUMENTALLY STUPID decision on Google's part to drop NPAPI support from
Chrome before a viable alternative was available for the majority of
plug-ins out there. About the only thing that DOES work is their own
version of the Flash plug-in. I rarely use Chrome now for just this
reason. I use Seamonkey for all of my Web, E-Mail and Usenet access.

[Bug 927782] Re: integrate Linux Backports Modules with Jockey

2013-02-18 Thread Jaime Cruz
Just updated with the latest from software updates and STILL lost
network connectivity. Had to install the drivers again manually. What's
going on??

[Bug 927782] Re: integrate the Atheros AR8131/AR8151/AR8152/AR8161/AR8162 Ethernet driver with Jockey

2013-01-17 Thread Jaime Cruz
Wow... just installed the latest batch of updates via the updater. It
LOOKED like it included the correct modules, but after the reboot I had
NO networking. Normally I at least had the wireless, but that was
knocked out too. Good thing I had the old drivers sitting in my Home
folder and was able to reinstall the old version!!

2013-01-21 Thread Jaime Cruz
Tim, I looked in the "Software Center" and all of the entries for
"linux-image-extra" imply they are for virtual guests, not the hosting
system. Is there someplace else I should be looking? I don't want to
hose my system so I want to be ABSOLUTELY sure before I do anything.
Thanks.

[Bug 1079507] [NEW] Atheros AR8161 Ethernet controller needs to be in included in kernel

2012-11-15 Thread Jaime Cruz
Public bug reported:

Latest kernel update from Canonical broke my LAN connection, as the
kernel did not have the proper driver compiled. Fortunately I was able
to enable my wireless connection in order to perform the following
steps:

sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-generic linux-headers-`uname
-r`
wget -O-
http://linuxwireless.org/download/compat-wireless-2.6/compat-wireless-2012-07-03-pc.tar.bz2
 | tar -xj
cd compat-wireless-2012-07-03-pc
./scripts/driver-select alx
make
sudo make install

And then reboot.
