[Bug 694910] Re: Regression: patch to bug 539477 breaks Super+P keybindings

2012-10-02 Thread Jacob Winski
Why is this not fixed if all it takes is to remove a horribly written
patch?

Precise 12.04 still has this behaviour.

Basically, right now there are only two very ugly fixes: either turn off
xrandr support or media-keys. The first is unacceptable if you use
multiple monitors (me) and the second if you use media keys (me). So
someone that needs both (me) has a big problem.

This forced shortcut caused me a ton of troubles and wasted time. Just
because there is broken hardware out there does not mean you should
force a broken fix down everyone's throat.

Please someone revert this horrible patch.

In case someone wants to know how to disable xrandr | media keys:
1) install dconf-editor
2) uncheck "activate" in org -> gnome -> settings-daemon -> plugins ->
media-keys | xrandr

[Bug 774059] Re: Scale by Window group not working

2012-10-02 Thread Jacob Winski
Precise 12.04 still affected.

Some Unity dev really broke the compiz scale plugin(s). There are a few
other similar bug reports such as #694910

Why is this still "undecided"? It's obviously broken.

[Bug 1060991] [NEW] Desktop entry name is way too vague - makes finding in USC difficult

2012-10-03 Thread Jacob Winski
Public bug reported:

The current name entry in the .desktop file is: Decrypt File

This is a Searhorse Nautilus plugin to decrypt AND encrypt a file which
should be reflected in the name.

This makes USC have the title of this package "Decrypt File" which makes
finding it difficult.

Suggested Name entry: Seahorse Encrypt / Decrypt Plugin for Nautilus

** Affects: seahorse-nautilus (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1074657] Re: "Authorization failed" when trying to edit anything

2012-12-05 Thread Jacob Winski
I also have this problem. Steps to reproduce:
1) Open software sources (as regular user)
2) Goto "Other Software" tab
3) Remove entry

Result:
Authorization failed.
Software sources can't be changed without permission.

When running Software Sources with massive debug I get no debug error:
software-properties-gtk -m

dbus properly registers software-properties-gtk

This is very frustrating because nothing seems to be giving out error messages.
The following logs show no errors:
/var/log/syslog
/var/log/ConsoleKit/history
/var/log/messages
/var/log/dmesg
/var/log/kern.log

[Bug 1074657] Re: "Authorization failed" when trying to edit anything

2012-12-05 Thread Jacob Winski
This looks to be caused by improper session launch.

How to reproduce this problem:
1) open a terminal and check what your DISPLAY variable is set at and write it
down:
echo $DISPLAY
NOTICE: I assume your DISPLAY variable is set to :0
If not, please use the variable that you wrote down instead
2) change to vt1 via ctrl+alt+f1
3) login
4) replace your shell via:
4a) for Unity:
DISPLAY=:0 unity --replace
-- or --
3b) for Gnome Shell:
DISPLAY=:0 gnome-shell --replace
4) go back to your shell (vt7) via ctrl+alt+f7 and wait a few seconds while
your shell restarts

You should now experience the "Authorization failed" issue.

Open up Run command via alt+f2 and start your shell:
a) for Unity:
unity --replace
b) for Gnome Shell:
gnome-shell --replace

The "Authorization failed" issue should not longer exist.

At first I thought this was a polkitd issue, but alas, polkitd is always
running, even when experiencing the issue:
/usr/lib/policykit-1/polkitd --no-debug

dbus-daemon is also always running.

It seems like something with the DISPLAY is not getting properly
handled.
