[Bug 308191] Re: Multitouch support not available for Synaptics touchpads v7.2

2010-12-20 Thread Henrik Rydberg
@anton: the click pad issue is a separate problem, which is also being
worked on.

The attached package is for maverick only, and is similar to the final
final upstream version. Should appear in natty in the beginning of the
new year. Thanks to everyone reporting!

2010-11-16 Thread Henrik Rydberg
Glad it works. :-)

Credit for finding out the hardware protocol goes to Takashi Iwai. Chase
Douglas put the pieces together and sent the first batch upstream. Chris
Bagwell did further improvements and cleanup.

I have uploaded the package to the ppa:utouch-team/utouch, it should be
available within an hour or so.

Thanks!

[Bug 308191] Re: Multitouch support not available for Synaptics touchpads v7.2

2010-11-17 Thread Henrik Rydberg
@baptist: The process of adding this functionality to future releases of
ubuntu and mainline is ongoing, and has been for some time. The utouch
package is based on the upcoming mainline solution.

@tob: The kernel will provide MT data, and Clickpads and Macbook
integrated trackpads will be served in user space. For an existing X
driver that handles MT data to achieve this, see xf86-input-multitouch.
The X synaptics driver will most likely get this functionality too.
However, neither of these solutions are satisfactory for gestures, which
is why we are building utouch. With the utouch framework, gesture
support on Linux reaches a new level of possibilities.

What is missing from all synaptics drivers is support for three
individual fingers, i.e., real multitouch support. However, most
firmwares are capable of detecting three objects on the pad, so there is
still hope that this information can be enabled.

[Bug 477105] Re: wacom bamboo pen & touch not working in karmic

2011-03-08 Thread Henrik Rydberg
Old bug so hard to tell what you fine people are running now, but there
are two things that might be possible off-hand:

1. Install the linux-backports-modules-input package (in ubuntu
backports repo).

2. Install the hid-wacom-dkms package (utouch ppa)

The first approach should be valid for Lucid, the second for Maverick,
and for Natty, none should be needed.

[Bug 742582] Re: Add touch gesture events

2011-03-31 Thread Henrik Rydberg
Regarding the timing of these changes, I believe we are all aware they
are late indeed. The reason we still propose them is probably also clear
to everyone.

Regarding the nature of the changes, the impact on existing setups is
much smaller than what it may seem like. It is not exactly zero, but it
is close to it. The new behavior is only seen if switched on explicitly,
as done by necessity in unity trunk.

Regarding the number of patches, three of the four patches are pure
bugfixes, as can be seen in the LP references in the change log.

2011-03-30 Thread Henrik Rydberg
This bug, as stated in the title, has been fixed upstream (2.6.38), and
has been released in natty. There is also a package linked in this bug,
confirmed by a large number of users, to work on maverick. Therefore, I
am marking this bug as fixed.

Please people, if you still experience problems related to this problem,
file a new bug. A bug with 250 comments is bound to include more than
one problem report. Thanks.

[Bug 702537] Re: Upload mtdev-1.1.0 to Ubuntu

2011-01-19 Thread Henrik Rydberg
The rest of the utouch effort during natty will depend on mtdev-1.1.0
and any eventual fixes being available as soon as possible, so I
recommend against round-trip delays. Debian only recently caught up
with ubuntu regarding mtdev, so there is no inherent reason for this
package to be synced from debian to ubuntu.

Why is the bug marked as incomplete?

[Bug 724831] Re: N-trig DuoSense digitizer not detected on Fujitsu Lifebook T580 on Ubuntu 10.10, amd64

2011-03-23 Thread Henrik Rydberg
Interesting. This will turn on more information:

echo 1 | sudo tee /sys/module/hid/parameters/debug

(a zero will turn debug output off)

In addition, since it seems to be a parsing error, having the full
description of the device would be useful. Please download this script,
for instance like

wget http://lii-enac.fr/en/architecture/linux-input/report.py

And run, as root

python report.py > descriptors.txt

Attach the descriptors.txt file here. That should give the full picture.

Thanks!

[Bug 724051] Re: upgrade to 1.3.99+git20110116.0e27ce3a-0ubuntu4 breaks touchpad

2011-02-24 Thread Henrik Rydberg
Here is a possible fix for the problem, for someone with 64bit. The
package contains a tiny patch which makes utouch not interfere with
traditional semi-mt touchpads. Please report back here.

I verified that the fix in the debian package resolves the issue, so

[Bug 724051] Re: upgrade to 1.3.99+git20110116.0e27ce3a-0ubuntu4 breaks touchpad

2011-02-24 Thread Henrik Rydberg
** Description changed:

utouch-frame has preliminary support for multi-finger, non-mt trackpads.
However, it appears the support is broken. The result is a trackpad that
fails to move the cursor. We will disable this support for now. This
- removes gesture functionality from these trackpads, but restores the
- previous functionality.
+ removes utouch gesture functionality from these trackpads, but restores
+ the previous functionality, and works well with the Synaptics X driver
+ as usual.

The problems you see are due to abi problems with other upgrades, and
are not related to this package. You can use "sudo apt-get install

Yes, utouch-grail/packaging contains the change in source, whereas
utouch-grail/packaging.maverick contains the change as a patch. The patch and
special packaging.maverick branch was made to avoid modifying the main package
version in the SRU. In practice, both branches contain the same change. Please
pick the one you find most suitable, and we can adjust accordingly.

This is a different device than 0eef:0001. The one you have is well supported by
the hid-egalax-dkms package found in ppa:utouch-team/utouch. A pristine maverick
install plus the above package should do the trick.

The hid-egalax-dkms package depends on the hid-dkms package in the same ppa,
which implements the equivalent of the hid quirks.

[Bug 637106] Re: XInput single-touch events aren't always filtered

2010-10-13 Thread Henrik Rydberg
Actually, it seems people are talking about different problems in this
thread. First of all, if a single finger is put down to move some time
before a second finger, the single-finger move is intentional so we end
up in a grey zone where latency and finger grouping have to be balanced.
In particular the timings in conjunction with finger release could
possibly change to remedy this. Secondly, there is no longer any need to
subscribe to single-touch gestures; the emulated events are suppressed
on the same footing anyways.

[Bug 416516] Re: Touchpad isn't sensitive enough on MacBook 5,2

2010-06-19 Thread Henrik Rydberg
Thanks for providing the data. I am sorry if my previous post was incompletely
stated -- the bcm5974 module is not used for your machine, but the appletouch
module is used instead. What I meant was to replace bcm597 by appletouch in
that command, such that you get
[code]
echo 99 | sudo tee /sys/module/appletouch/parameters/debug
tail -f /var/log/debug
echo 0 | sudo tee /sys/module/appletouch/parameters/debug
[/code]

Thanks
