[Bug 404647] [NEW] Documents with the extension docx

2009-07-25 Thread han
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

I thought that OO 3.0 could read Word documents with the extension docx
but I get the message 'file is not a WinWord6 document.' The docx file
has no other 'specials' than it requires a password to open it. I use
Ubuntu 9.04.

[Bug 404647] Re: Documents with the extension docx

2009-07-26 Thread han
That is 'the solution' but that means that I can't open docx-files with
a password. Received files first opening in Word to remove the password
and than opening in OO is not really a solution. Is there some other way
to open it in OO?

2008-04-24 Thread han
Public bug reported:

I'm using the terminal from Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal that
comes with Ubuntu 7.10

After typing " &" into the terminal and closing the
terminal, I was expecting the terminal to close but the application to
continue running.

What happened when i closed the terminal was that the application closed
as well when it should have been running.

I have tried running applications like xload, glxgears glchess in the
background by using the & sign.
eg: glchess &

but the applications still terminated.

[Bug 76182] Re: GRUB does not start with "splash"

2007-06-10 Thread Han
On an ASUS M2NPV-VM mobo the problem still exists with 7.04.
With splash on it does not boot and/or shut down on 1 out of 5 tries.
Remove splash and it boots and shuts down reliably.

Same for me: Ubuntu Gnome 16.04 / Gnome 3.18

At the beginning it worked for me, but after installing the usual
software (Skype, Atom etc..) it stopped opening for me.

Cheers

[Bug 1242615] [NEW] [USB-Audio - U46DJ] Not correctly recognized and no outputs

2013-10-21 Thread Han
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 13.10
Release:13.10

After upgrading to Ubuntu/Xubuntu 13.10, the ESI U46DJ is now
recognized as a Surround device, which it isn't.

http://i43.tinypic.com/juiogm.png

http://www.esi-audio.com/products/u46dj

Besides, if I turn on the ESI after booting to Ubuntu/Xubuntu, only the
inputs are recognized. I need to turn it on before booting to
Ubuntu/Xubuntu to use the outputs.

http://i39.tinypic.com/aetr8j.png

Before upgrading to 13.10 the U46DJ was perfectly recognized and worked
like a charm.

[Bug 1242615] Re: [USB-Audio - U46DJ] Not correctly recognized and no outputs

2013-10-26 Thread Han
I'm sorry, "chmap -D hw:U46DJ query" returns me a "command not found".

You're right, restarting pulseaudio using "pulseaudio -k" makes the
outputs to work. That's a nice trick.

> do you mean you want to change the channel map of your 6 channels
U46DJ ?

What I mean is, I'd like the U46DJ to work as in 13.04: without needing
to turn it on before login in (or without the need to restart
pulseaudio), and with the option to use it as an "Analogue Stereo
Duplex" or "Analogue Stereo Output".

Anyway, I'm thinking about going back to 13.04, because I don't see
anything in 13.10 that makes me want to keep using it.

Thanks for your help, Raymond.

[Bug 1377329] [NEW] Games dont run from CD, USB memorycard, SD card

2014-10-03 Thread Han
Public bug reported:

Games don't run from CD, SDcard or USB memory
In short: I created a test game for UBUNTU and seems running fine in UBUNTU
desktop. But when I try to run it from CD drive ubuntu does not allow running
it. I tried all the recommended solutions in documents which should give
permission executing files from CD rom, Sd card and others but all failed. Here
is the video of the problem please take a look to understand:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qf-UujaR118&feature=youtu.be

You understand if you want to attract quality game programmers to Ubuntu you
should allow executing programs from CD rom, USB memory stick and SD card cause
external media types allow protecting games from piracy. If not then games
published on ubuntu are easy target for hackers. Now that we have wonderful
game engines which also allow us to also publish games for Ubuntu you should
take this issue serious, otherwise Ubuntu fans will have no other choice but to
start making games for other platforms which are now also open to homemade
games like android, mac, IOS, xbox and playstation. And the nextgen
gameprogrammers will loose interest in making games for Ubuntu.
 I am using Ubuntu 14.04

[Bug 1377329] Re: Games dont run from CD, USB memorycard, SD card

2014-10-04 Thread Han
According to the UBUNTU documentation I have to follow their instructions and
things will work out. But it seems It does not work at all as the instrsuctions
say. So it's a bug when you follow all instructions and things still dont work
as they should.
Here you can see just tried the CD only

[Bug 251640] Re: Manual install fail when using encrypted LVM

I can confirm this problem also happens for me.

If I let it automatically decide the size of the partitition and create
encrypted lvm volume, it will install fine, but it can not mount the
encrypted LVM after typing in the passphrase during the boot process
right after install.

[Bug 390728] [NEW] evolution crash with SIGPIPE

2009-06-22 Thread Han Pilmeyer
Public bug reported:

Evolution (2.26.1-0ubuntu2) randomly crashes with SIGPIPE on Ubuntu
Jaunty 9.04. This happens a few times a week.

Crash seems to be in libORBit which unfortunately doesn't have debugging
symbols. Please let me know what I can do to help (e.g. which package to
install in order to get debugging symbol).

I'll attach the full back trace in an update to this bug.

[Bug 390728] Re: evolution crash with SIGPIPE

2009-06-22 Thread Han Pilmeyer
Can't really describe what I was doing, which is why I said "randomly".
I was working in another workspace. When I switched back to the
workspace that had Evolution, I noticed that the window did not update.
So I switched to the workspace that has the gdb session from which I run
Evolution and I noticed that it had crashed.

It's not reproducible, but I've had several since I run Evolution from
gdb. Before that I couldn't tell what caused the crashes. "Several times
a week" is my best guess at the moment for the frequency.

Pedro,

Would you rather have me report these bugs directly into Bugzilla on
Gnome or should I got through launchpad? Is that what Sebastian was
asking?

In the past I have reported directly to Gnome. Perhaps I misunderstood,
but I thought one of the advantages of launchpad was to link these
together (sort of).

[Bug 393754] [NEW] Thunderbird 2.0.0.22 missing dbgsym package

2009-06-30 Thread Han Pilmeyer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird

My wife has frequent crashes in Thunderbird. I've set up everything so
that I can capture stack traces when this happens. However last week
Ubuntu was upgraded through jaunty-updates from 2.0.0.21 to 2.0.0.22.
But one week later the corresponding thunderbird-dbgsym package in the
ddebs.ubuntu.com repository has remained at 2.0.0.21+nobinonly-
0ubuntu1.9.04.1.

This is making it impossible to capture meaningful backtraces. Can this

[Bug 234404] [NEW] Scim-hangul 0.3.2 is nonexistent in the repository for Ubuntu Hardy Heron

2008-05-23 Thread SeungCheol Han
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: scim-hangul

Hi, lots of guys.

I wanted to say thank you, all Ubuntu developers.
Thanks to your ceaseless efforts, my Linux life is getting better day by day. ^^

As someone might know, scim-hangul 0.3.2 has been already available since
December 30, 2008.
Unfortunately it is not currently accessible directly via Synaptic Package
Manager.
scim-hangul 0.3.1 in the repository has some serious problem for which we can't
input
the special characters. Since many users reported the problem to developer, it
was
again released with some fixes. Many Korean users are waiting for its automatic
updating by
Synaptic, not by source compiling and manual installation.

Please make sure that this problem is urgent for lots of Korean users, although
this does not
affect on others from other countries.

Thank you for your time.

[Bug 236160] [NEW] Sigma symbol is shown while using Korean word

Hello.

I am an OpenOffice 2.4 user.
It is so great office product when I am using English only.
But if I decide to build some document with Korean character,
it makes me get in trouble. Actually, it might not be a big problem.

With nonprinting charaters turned on, any space between Korean words
gets special Greek character, Sigma. If I turn off the functionality, it does
appear.

[Bug 344423] [NEW] System freezing when connecting with bcm4328 wireless card in Jaunty Alpha 6

2009-03-17 Thread SeungCheol Han
Public bug reported:

I installed Jaunty Alpha 6 on my laptop using bcm 4328 wireless card.
As usual this card is always trouble maker when installing ubuntu.

Surprisingly Jaunty alpha 6 distribution got its wireless signal with little
effort:
I used the following commands:

sudo modprobe -r b43 b44 ssb wl b43legacy
sudo modprobe wl
sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart

Then I can connect the wireless network with SSID 'dhw'. This network uses
PEAP, user id, and password
to get a network setup. And then, showing two green circles, my laptop goes to
freeze shortly and after rebooting,
also I have the same problem. I did not choose any certificates on the
configuration.

After installation, I found that in the restricted driver, there is 'Broadcom
STA wireless driver'. I think that
this driver does not support my wireless card, bcm 4328.

Attached was the 'lshw -C network':
sfe...@jaunty:~$ sudo lshw -C network
  *-network
   description: Wireless interface
   product: BCM4328 802.11a/b/g/n
   vendor: Broadcom Corporation

   serial: 00:1a:73:65:88:eb
   width: 64 bits

wireless
   configuration: broadcast=yes driver=wl0 driverversion=5.10.27.11
latency=0 module=wl multicast=yes wireless=IEEE 802.11abgn

If you need more information, please let me know.

thank you.

[Bug 305907] Re: Complete system freeze when trying to connect to WPA2 network

2009-03-23 Thread SeungCheol Han
Use the latest Broadcom driver at the site:
http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php
and its patch. At the 2393th row, change
count = pmkcandlist->npmkid_cand;
to
count = ntoh32(pmkcandlist->npmkid_cand);
and then rebuild it to get the new wl.ko module.

Follow the file Readme.txt and all done!!

I am also connecting the setting of WPA & WPA2 Enterprise, Protected EAP
(PEAP), MSCHAPv2 with  BCM4328 chip.
No CA Certificate was chosen. Provide your login information.

All Done!! I am free of Ndiswrapper finally.

[Bug 358411] [NEW] [Hewlett-Packard HP Pavilion dv9000 (GA361UA#ABA)] hibernate/resume failure [non-free: nvidia]

2009-04-09 Thread SeungCheol Han
Public bug reported:

Before this problem I have never experienced any problem.
I upgraded my system from Intrepid 8.10 a few days ago.

When I used the hibernation yesterday, in five seconds I again
got the Login window which I'd meet after waking up from
hibernation. And I retried to hibernate my system and it has
gone well except for one thing: Although I do not remember
what is was, I had a warning message regarding IRQ problem.
And then, this morning I got this failure from resuming the hibernation.

Thank you.

resuming properly.

[Bug 385867] [NEW] Evolution crash with SIGSEGV

2009-06-11 Thread Han Pilmeyer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I wasn't doing anything in particular with evolution when it crashed
with SIGSEGV. However I do have schedules where I process new messages
from a local store and imap and filter these. So it could have been
during one of those actions. This happens about ones a day. Attached is
the stack backtrace of all threads.

Evolution was very stable for me under 8.10. This problem started as
soon as I upgraded to Jaunty 9.04. Currently using evolution
2.26.1-0ubuntu2.

I'm currently trying to run evolution under valgrind, but I'm not sure
that will be a workable option as it seems to slow evolution down to a
crawl.

Please let me know what I can do to help fix this issue.

[Bug 450253] [NEW] Karmic hangs during boot with 2.6.31 kernel

2009-10-13 Thread Han Pilmeyer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: upstart

My Compaq Evo N1000C laptop will not boot using the 2.6.31-12 kernel.
However it does boot using Jaunty's 2.6.28-15 kernel. This laptop has
been upgrade to every Ubuntu release since at l;east Dapper without any
boot issues.

I've had this problem after upgrading to Karmic two or three weeks ago.
I've tried booting with 2.6.31 every day after installing the latest
updates, but it continues to fail with 2.6.31 (and it always boots with
2.6.28).

It always hangs after /scripts/init-bottom and /scripts/AppArmor finish.
Sometimes I see a few fsck messages (like on the attached photo), but
this is not always the case.

Please let me know what I can do to help troubleshooting this problem.

Yes, will get that photo.

Waiting does not help. I've let it sit there for hours.

Note that the system does boot Karmic with the Jaunty kernel. So if it
is related to mountall, there must be a dependency on the kernel
somewhere.

[Bug 450253] Re: Karmic hangs during boot

2009-10-13 Thread Han Pilmeyer
Hmm. Either those instructions in OMGBroken need some work or there is
something very weird on my system. I do not have the /sbin/upstart
executable.

I've also noticed 3 times that the system froze while I was typing to
create the /etc/init/sulogin.conf file. If it would freeze during the
execution of mountall as well, then that could explain why it only seems
to hang with 2.6.31.

[Bug 450253] Re: Karmic hangs during boot

2009-10-14 Thread Han Pilmeyer
David, sounds like a different issue to me. I didn't have any issues
during the upgrade itself and changing the grub boot line from "ro" to
"rw" makes no difference (I had to do this anyway in order to create the
/etc/init/sulogin.conf file).

I've used /sbin/init now and I think I briefly saw "bash" starting
before mountall became active. Mountall seems to hang at the same point
and the keyboard is unresponsive so I can't do the "ps" command. I left
the system in the sulogin prompt before doing anything for a while and
than it doesn't hang. I then started to hit "enter" every couple of
minutes and the system kept responding. However if I have to type a lot
or if I start mountall, it seems to hang.

```
Upon investigation, `tostring()` method in Python array was deprecated in 3.9
(The default Python version in 21.04?)
On 20.10:
```
Python 3.8.6 (default, Jan 27 2021, 15:42:20)
[GCC 10.2.0] on linux
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> from array import array
>>> array('B').tostring()
b''
```
On 21.04:
```
Python 3.9.4 (default, Apr  4 2021, 19:38:44)
[GCC 10.2.1 20210401] on linux
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> from array import array
>>> array('B').tostring()
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "", line 1, in
AttributeError: 'array.array' object has no attribute 'tostring'
```
The fix would simply be replacing `tostring()` with `tobytes()`
`tostring` was deprecated since Python 3.2, and was removed in 3.9
https://docs.python.org/3.8/library/array.html#array.array.tostring
PS: I have upgraded my installation from 20.10 instead of brand new
installation of the 21.04 release ISO. Not sure if that changes
anything, the source I find here still uses `tostring()`
[Bug 1855318] Re: autofs tries to find .xdg-volume-info and autorun.inf
2020-11-12 Thread Han Vinke
The reason of the errors (key ".xdg-volume-info" and key "autorun.inf"
not found in map source(s)) is because the wiki
(https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Autofs) is incomplete.
At step 4.2. Create /etc/auto.nfs there should have been an additional
creation of the same file in the map /etc/auto.master.d
In the instructions of auto.master it states:
# Include /etc/auto.master.d/*.autofs
# To add an extra map using this mechanism you will need to add
# two configuration items - one /etc/auto.master.d/extra.autofs file
# (using the same line format as the auto.master file)
# and a separate mount map (e.g. /etc/auto.extra or an auto.extra NIS map)
# that is referred to by the extra.autofs file.
So you can simply copy auto.nfs to the map /etc/auto.master.d
After reloading daemons and restart autofs the errors disappear.
So this is not a bug.
[Bug 1855318] Re: autofs tries to find .xdg-volume-info and autorun.inf
2020-11-13 Thread Han Vinke
I made a file auto.extra with:
.hidden /.
NAS -fstype=nfs,vers=4,rw,soft,rsize=8192,wsize=8192 :/Download
This way autofs is first loading a directory .hidden which is empty,
which is on purpose.
Now the errors disappear from autofs. I think this is a simple but fine
solution.
In Thunar the folder .hidden is only visible when the option ¨show hidden
files¨ is selected.
[Bug 1855318] Re: autofs tries to find .xdg-volume-info and autorun.inf
2020-11-21 Thread Han Vinke
Hi, the problem seems to come from gvfs-udisks2-volume-monitor. See
upstream: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gvfs/-/issues/287
There the problem is clearly stated :
¨The difference with autofs in comparison with ordinary mounts is that the
mount always exists (you can see it in "/etc/mtab"), but do not have to be
really mounted. However, gvfs-udisks2-volume-monitor thinks that it is really
mounted if the mount exists...
Consequently, the following code is called which looks for some files on that
mounts (e.g. autorun.inf, .xdg-volume-info), which causes the unwanted
automounts for autofs.¨
But no solution for autofs momentarily, the patch proposed caused other
issues.
[Bug 1855318] Re: autofs tries to find .xdg-volume-info and autorun.inf
2020-11-21 Thread Han Vinke
Btw, I do not have an issue with that the automount daemon completely ignores
the map file.
In the file "auto.extra" I can also put a line with .xdg-volume-info /-
Then the systemd daemon is only mentioning: xubuntu automount[]: the key
"autorun.inf" not found in map source(s).
[Bug 1822006] [NEW] Installer crashes when wiping disk
2019-03-27 Thread Jerry Han
Public bug reported:
I tried to install Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, but when I get to the point where the
installer warns me about something with mount points, right after selecting
wipe disk from the menu of:
Wipe Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Files
Install Alongside Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Wipe Disk and Install
I selected wipe disk, and was met with a warning. I clicked continue,
and then the installer crashed, leaving me in a small part of Ubuntu,
where I have the desktop, time, and battery status, as well as Firefox,
but nothing else. I am sort of new to Ubuntu, so I don't know what to do
with my USB stick, or the half running Ubuntu that I am stuck in now.
[Bug 1892276] Re: thumbnails stretched on desktop 20.04 after previous bug fix release
2021-01-17 Thread Tengda Han
A possible fix:
In
https://gitlab.gnome.org/World/ShellExtensions/desktop-icons/-/blob/master/fileItem.js#L373
 (or locally
/usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/desktop-icons@csoriano/fileItem.js):
Replace: `let containerWidth = (this._icon.allocation.x2 -
this._icon.allocation.x1) * scaleFactor;`
with `let containerWidth = (this._icon.allocation.x2 -
this._icon.allocation.x1);`
The scaleFactor here is unnecessary.
Tested on Ubuntu 20.04.1, with display scale 200%. Desktop thumbnails
work fine after removing the scaleFactor multiplier as above.
[Bug 1876741] Re: Lenovo X1 boot crash with HDMI cable attached and laptop lid closed
2020-05-26 Thread Maria Han
Hi,
I think what I experience on my Thinkpad T460s might be the same bug. I
do not have a dock but if I boot with an HDMI cable attached I get stuck
after grub - at the screen with the Lenovo logo and a spinner.
This only happens, if I choose "Single Display" in the displays setting,
using only the external screen attached via HDMI (i.e. the thinkpad
screen is off, even though the lid is not closed). If instead I use
"Join Displays", where both screens are on, I can boot with the HDMI
cable attached.
The problem appeared after upgrading from 19.10. I only have built-in
graphics (Intel Corporation Skylake GT2 [HD Graphics 520]).
[Bug 1876741] Re: Lenovo X1 boot crash with HDMI cable attached and laptop lid closed
2020-05-27 Thread Maria Han
Hi Raoul,
yes, your probably right it is not exactly the same. I overlooked in
your initial post that the problem happened before grub and the title
sounds so much like my problem. I think I assumed from here
> if something is attached to thunderbolt, no way to see even grub, if
nothing is attached (and LID is closed) then I see grub loading on the
external monitor but I don't get GDM.
that you also had a problem after grub that is not associated with the
thunderbolt issue.
Thanks for your suggestions, I quickly tried both of them. Uninstalling
xserver-xorg-video-intel did not solve it, but if I boot without "quiet
splash" I can get to the login screen and login normally even though the
HDMI cable is attached. I first see some log lines from the booting
process on the screen, as expected, but the page with the Lenovo logo
and Spinner does not come up and I just get to the login screen.
Sorry if I am posting to the wrong thread here.
