I installed the kernel 2.6.34, it doesn't solve the issue.

Other important synthom: system is unable to manage battery well.
Examples:

1) if I unplug the AC adaptor, no battery icons appears in panel. 
2) after (about) 2h, the laptop shut down with no alarm.

I solved: the problem was swap.

1) get the uuid of your swap partition

sudo blkid

example:
/dev/sda1: UUID="d4c3f800-f968-4445-bc32-3151051b1064" TYPE="swap"
   

2) edit initramfs:

sudo gedit /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume

so:

RESUME=UUID=d4c3f800-f968-4445-bc32-3151051b1064

*** without " " 

save and exit.

3) sudo update-initramfs -k all -u

4) reboot :)

while brightness-down key combination (fn+f6) works well, brightness-up
(fn+f7) doesn't.

Notebook model: fujitsu v6555.

As workaround I'm using this script:

I use 2.6.34-4 on Lucid and U1 works fine, but with 2..6.34-5 I have the same

Well, it's time to begin. Use Ubuntu to build Ubuntu.

Last but not least: if there aren't guidelines about "making Ubuntu with
Ubuntu" the status of this bug is "invalid", not "fixed".

It should be right/nice/useful to restore it in Lucid because:

* There is a big revival of Melson Mandela, i.e. the "Invictus" movie.
* USA elected a black president, so black people and racial themes are very 
discussed.
* the video explains the name of the OS. "Ubuntu" isn't a widely known word.

Karmic daily-live of today (and yestarday) crashes during boot.
I do startx from command line, gnome seem to load (panels appears) but xorg 
crash another time.

graphic card: intel i915

I tried on Jaunty (but I use the Karmic kernel) in Virtual Box. With
linux 2.6.31-11 it works, but with 2.6.31-12 or higher it crash in
Virtualbox too!

Scribus 1.4.2

The Scribus Team is pleased to announce the release of Scribus 1.4.2.
While this is mostly a bugfix release, it also adds an often requested feature, 
namely true cross-platform spellchecking. Until Scribus 1.4.1, the spellchecker 
worked only on Linux and UNIX systems, including manually built versions on Mac 
OS X. As of version 1.4.2, Scribus provides a modern spellchecker, similar to 
LibreOffice and based on Hunspell, which should be easily portable across all 
supported platforms. Scribus 1.4.2 will detect existing dictionaries already 
installed by hunspell packages or LibreOffice, on the system it has been 
installed onto. Additional dictionaries are downloadable directly from within 
the Scribus Preferences via freedesktop.org. The spellchecker now also works 
within the Story Editor.
Scribus 1.4.2 is also the first release of Scribus that is available as a 
64-bit version for Microsoft Windows. These new versions allow Scribus to 
access all available memory provided by modern 64-bit computers, which improves 
performance when working on large documents. The 64-bit version will run on 
Windows Vista 64-bit, Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit, and Microsoft Windows 8 
64-bit.
In addition, Scribus 1.4.2 comes with updates to the Online Help, as well as 
updated translations.
