[Bug 463010] Re: HP HDX16 failure to suspend/hibernate

2009-11-19 Thread George H. Lenzer
I also have the identical problem with an older HP 8510w laptop running
Ubuntu Desktop 9.10. Suspend or hibernate will lock the system up
completely.

Kernel info:

r...@8510w:~# uname -a
Linux 8510w 2.6.31-14-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 16 14:05:01 UTC 2009

Here is output from 'lspci' for comparison with HDX16 above:

[Bug 410407] Re: [READ DESCRIPTION] Flash is not recognizing mouse clicks in multiple situations

2009-11-24 Thread George H. Lenzer
Same problem in the wmii window manager. So it's not Compiz per se, but
could be compositing in Xorg since I do have that enabled for times when
I do log in with Gnome/Metacity or Emerald.

[Bug 463010] Re: HP HDX16 failure to suspend/hibernate

2009-12-08 Thread George H. Lenzer
I've accidentally discovered something new. I rebooted the HP HDX16
laptop the other day but did not log in. The system was left at the GDM
login screen. I needed to disconnect it from wall power and the network
and carry it to another room, so I closed the lid. The computer
suspended automatically (the HP logo light turned off and only the power
light was blinking to indicate suspend mode) since it wasn't logged into
my account where I've disabled suspend on closing the lid. I feared the
worst and didn't expect the system to come back as usual. However, when
I opened the lid (can't remember if I pressed a key or not) the system
came back up fully. I then logged in and tried to suspend from the menu
in my account and the system again locked up.

Might the lockups have something to do with the Gnome session? I'm
using Compiz. I'll have to try it with a different WM to see if there
is a difference. After that, I'll report my findings back here.

[Bug 463010] [NEW] suspend/resume failure in Karmic RC (kernel 2.6.31-9-rt)

2009-10-28 Thread George H. Lenzer
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu Studio on an HP HDX16 laptop. Suspend isn't working.
When I suspend, the laptop screen goes black but still backlit and I get
a blinking underscore cursor. Pressing power doesn't bring it back and
neither does pressing any key, mouse button, etc... The only option I
have is to hold the power button in for the requisite 4 seconds for the
system to power off.

[Bug 463010] Re: suspend/resume failure in Karmic RC (kernel 2.6.31-9-rt)

2009-11-02 Thread George H. Lenzer
I am seeing the same behavior with the new kernel:

Linux hdx16t 2.6.31-9-rt #152-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT RT Thu Oct 15 13:22:24
UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux

What log files should I append? dmesg, pm-suspend.log? By the way, pm-
suspend.log claims that suspend was successful even though I couldn't
bring the system back to a running state. All LEDs that indicate power
is fully on, and the screen backlight + blinking _ cursor were all
active even though no KB/mouse or power switch presses did anything.
Again, the only recourse was to hold the power button in for 4 secs and
then cold boot.
