i got the ubuntu patched version to compile and boot, took about an hour and a half, but it had no wireless support (i'm sure i could have gotten that to work if i googled around), but still no sound. i had wiped and put mandriva on, but just like the features of ubuntu better, so i wiped and brought ubuntu back. ok, i can confirm, that making the changes that you specified above does allow me to get sound! The only problem that I have is that I have been unable to compile linux-restricted-modules. If someone can get this done we'll be golden. Also, I would try to attach the patch to the kernel, but I don't know how? Rob, in debian/rules the line under abi version( i'm running off of memory so bear with me) has a dash before referencing that version.
