[Bug 244996] [NEW] segmentation fault when starting firefox-3.0
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox-3.0 When running firefox (3.0+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1) it won't come up. On the command line i just get this: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ firefox Segmentation fault I ran across the wiki entry about bugreporting for firefox, so please find the gdb-output attached. I already tried reinstalling all packages including the ones firefox depends on, so I doubt it's a harddisk failure. Running the ProfileManager segfaults as well - no hope of using a fresh profile. Moving the $HOME/.mozilla dir out of the way to get rid of the extensions I use doesn't help at all. Unfortunately I'm not sure if this is firefox-specific, because the latest thunderbird behaves the same :-( Pls. let me know if you need more information on this issue. [Bug 244996] Re: segmentation fault when starting firefox-3.0
Ok, gotta close this bug - it wasn't firefox' fault, it was due to some weird settings in gtk-qt-engine. After setting back the styles in the systemsettings everything went smoothly again. Thanks to forum, ubuntuusers.de who set me on the right path. Sorry for the inconvenience I don't see a link for closing the bug myself, so someone else close it who's able to. [Bug 51893] Re: aptitude pegs cpu for extended period of time on startup
Same here. Some more information: I'm running Dapper plus edgy enhancements (switching in progress...), and since the latest upgrade of apt (0.6.44.2ubuntu4), aptitude (0.4.1-1.1ubuntu2) and dpkg (1.13.22ubuntu4). Now when I invoke aptitude all those progress bar increase in parts of seconds, only the building of the package state takes up to minutes (on a AMD K7 2800+), and the cpu usage is high up in the nineties. Updating the packages list and installing/upgrading packages works fast as usual. Pls let me know if I can be of more help to track this down. -- aptitude pegs cpu for extended period of time on startup https://launchpad.net/bugs/51893 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 200109] [NEW] DMA for firewire opens security hole
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** Public security bug reported: As Adam Boileau and others pointed out, Firewire has direct memory access without any participation of the OS. Using some nice tools he provides on his website http://storm.net.nz/projects/16 one can access the whole memory of a target computer as soon as one has physical access - no reboot needed! Some explanations on backgrounds and how to do it can be found in a PDF containing the slides of his talk at RuxCon 2006: http://storm.net.nz/static/files/ab_firewire_rux2k6-final.pdf There's a very easy solution to this: ohci1394 should be loaded with option "phys_dam=0" by default - maybe this slowdowns Firewire access a little, but the computer can't be forged anymore! Alas, there is still a bug with that: One of those modules is present in the latest kernel packages, so depmod will see two of them :/ Will file a bug report on that issue if nobody else did so far... -- regression: tp_smapi kernel modules missing in latest kernel image https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/454933 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 569161] [NEW] dkms compiles and installs modules fine, but doesn't remove existing modules
Public bug reported: AFAIUI tp-smapi-dkms has been designed to have dkms compile and install tp-smapi modules for every newly installed kernel automatically. It does great in that job - with a small little exception: the latest kernel packages do include one of the modules deriving from tp-smapi, but that is not removed from /lib/modules/$KERNEL-VERSION. I removed the original file manually and ran depmod -a afterwards, but I guess quite a number of Thinkpad owners don't know enough about Linux to find out there are two modules with the same name in the modules tree... [Bug 442521] [NEW] last.fm plugin demands being a paying last.fm member though not necessary
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: amarok Just updated to Karmic Beta und tried the included Amarok 2.1.90 version - and found a little annoying bug: Playing Last.fm streams is free for some countries including Germany where I happen to live. [Bug 1521286] [NEW] unable to login after upgrade vivid -> wily
Public bug reported: Got a Kubuntu 15.04 system on my laptop. Upon upgrading towards 15.10 release suddenly the greeter wasn't presented anymore upon boot. Logging in to the console and then 'startx' made KDE work, but it was a PITA ... A little searching revealed the problem: Apparently the upgrade involved a change in some directories used, and the upgrade process didn't create the dir containing the .Xauthority file. Reproducible: upon every boot Solution: [as root] mkdir -p /var/lib/lightdm; chown -R lightdm:lightdm /var/lib/lightdm ; chmod 0750 /var/lib/lightdm Now it works as expected... ** Affects: lightdm-kde (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1521286 Title: unable to login after upgrade vivid -> wily To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm-kde/+bug/1521286/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1004683] [NEW] pcscd fails to access Reiner SCT CyberJack card reader
Public bug reported: I tried to access my banking card for the first time since upgrading to Precise Pengolin, but the system behaved somewhat strange: When i plug the reader into the USB port I usually get a LED flashing a few times and some info about the device and its firmware version. I saw this today as well, but instead of waiting for actions from the banking software the display fell dead again and I couldn't do my banking. I investigates a bit and found this in syslog every time I plugged in the reader: May 25 21:50:00 host kernel: [ 8119.920068] usb 2-2: new full-speed USB device number 9 using uhci_hcd May 25 21:50:01 host mtp-probe: checking bus 2, device 9: "/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:1d.0/usb2/2-2" May 25 21:50:01 host mtp-probe: bus: 2, device: 9 was not an MTP device Scanning through udev rules I found the device in /lib/udev/rules.d/40 -libifd-cyberjack6.rules: ATTR{idVendor}=="0c4b", ATTR{idProduct}=="0400", MODE="660", GROUP="pcscd" Looks good to me, so I'm a bit lost for now. Maybe this is a udev problem, not pcscd's ? My setup information: Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Release:12.04 pcscd: Installiert: 1.7.4-2ubuntu2 Kandidat:1.7.4-2ubuntu2 Versionstabelle: *** 1.7.4-2ubuntu2 0 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/universe i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status Please let me know if and how I can be of any help to solve this. [Bug 1004683] Re: pcscd fails to access Reiner SCT CyberJack card reader
One more note: I googled a bit and found Reiner SCT's support forum where someone mentioned a package libpcsc-ctapi-wrapper0 which can be found at https://launchpad.net/~linrunner/+archive/ppa/+sourcepub/1727348/+listing-archive-extra Installation of that packages lead the author to a working setup.
