[Bug 1771223] [NEW] Cannot connect to L2TP network
Public bug reported: Since upgrading to Ubuntu 18.04 I can no longer connect to L2TP VPNs. I have tried building 1.3.12 of xl2tpd since I read reports about problems with kernel 4.15 and the original xl2tpd, but that didn't help. I'm running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and using network-manager-l2tp version: Installerad: 1.2.8-2build1 Kandidat:1.2.8-2build1 Versionstabell: *** 1.2.8-2build1 500 500 http://se.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: network-manager-l2tp 1.2.8-2build1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-20.21-generic 4.15.17 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-20-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Tue May 15 00:09:33 2018 EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-08-29 (258 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Release amd64 (20170801) SourcePackage: network-manager-l2tp UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to bionic on 2018-04-27 (17 days ago) ** Affects: network-manager-l2tp (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug bionic -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1771223 Title: Cannot connect to L2TP network To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-l2tp/+bug/1771223/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1771223] Re: Cannot connect to L2TP network
I use 1.3.12 of xl2tpd and I cannot see any logs about "udp_xmit" in my log file. I have attached my log file where I replaced my vpn server IP. The same VPN works fine from my other computer with Ubuntu 16.04. This computer is upgraded from 16.04 to 18.04. ** Attachment added: "vpn-error-ext.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-l2tp/+bug/1771223/+attachment/5139706/+files/vpn-error-ext.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1771223 Title: Cannot connect to L2TP network To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-l2tp/+bug/1771223/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1771223] Re: Cannot connect to L2TP network
Douglas, you solution worked fine for this VPN. Thank you! Now I will continue on my office VPN (this was a third party VPN) that is even stranger. Here I can connect when I'm at my office, but not from the outside. Strange that L2TP is so hard to get up and running. Anyway, thank you for your help. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1771223 Title: Cannot connect to L2TP network To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-l2tp/+bug/1771223/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1771223] Re: Cannot connect to L2TP network
There firewall is ok. But I found that something got messed up when trying to connect to the VPN from inside our office. The VPN should be used outside the office of course, but I just wanted to test it. I don't know why, but it started working after doing "apt purge --auto-remove network-manager-l2tp* strongswan* xl2tpd && apt install network-manager-l2tp network-manager-l2tp-gnome" and then NOT connect from inside our office. If I did, I hade to run "apt purge..." again. Anyway, it's working for me now. Thank you very much for your help.
