[Bug 1890858] Re: AppArmor profile causes QEMU/KVM - Not Connected

2020-08-14 Thread Floyd
I had the issue on an install of:

DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS"

I followed the "fix" in the URL previously posted and symlinked the
libvirt profile into the apparmor disable directory, and everything
worked. In an attempt to recreate, I removed the symlink and rebooted,
verified apparmor is still enforcing the libvirtd profile, but I no
longer have the issue.

New to running Linux, I was running it under wubi. As soon as Windows
crashed and I formatted my drive and installed Linux Mint ONLY, the
problem was no more =) Thanks though.

Re: [Bug 883812] Re: mouse cursor wigs out

2011-10-31 Thread Floyd
Thank you for responding. I'll try to do a better job of being as
specific as I can.

At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that
caused you to encounter the problem; This doesn't happen every time, but
the way I see it it shldn't happen at all. I boot up. After logging in,
the mouse cursor's in the middle of the screen, as it shld be. 2. the
behavior you expected; I expected the mouse cursor to act normal =)

3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible); When
I try to navigate my mouse cursor, it "skitters" all over the screen. When I
say "skittering", I mean the mouse cursor moves abt like a drop of water on a
red hot skillet. I have zero control over it. I can't even navigate the cursor
to the shutdown/restart in the upper right screen. And as it skitters abt, it
opens apps like crazy. Dozens and dozens. It stops, of course, when I stop
trying to navigate it. I'm running a Sony VAIO with dual 2.0 ghz processors, 4
gigs of ram. My hardware's good. But there's something to be said abt the mouse
cursor's behavior. Again, this is occasional, maybe 4 or 5 times out 10
bootups. Hope this is more useful. And thanks again for responding. Means a
lot. - Original Message -

[Bug 262423] Re: [intrepid] Resume from suspend does not work in 2.6.27-1

2008-11-30 Thread Edwin Floyd
I can suspend to RAM and resume just fine but Hibernate won't resume, it
just boots normally when I hit the button. Running Ubuntu
2.6.27-10.20-generic on ASUS C90S with the latest NVidia 177 driver and
all patches applied as of today. Here's my /etc/uswsusp.conf:

# /etc/uswsusp.conf(8) -- Configuration file for s2disk/s2both
resume device = /dev/sda2
splash = y
compress = y
early writeout = y

RSA key file = /etc/uswsusp.key
shutdown method = platform
suspend loglevel = 1
max loglevel = 1

Can I assist with any additional info?

[Bug 456902] Re: [i845G] Karmic stops responding a few minutes after log in

2010-01-26 Thread Edwin Floyd
FWIW, I'm seing a random freeze that looks very much like this, but with
nvidia hardware on my ASUS laptop - Karmic, 64-bit, all latest patches.
Every couple of days, screen just stops responding to mouse clicks and
keyboard but mouse cursor still moves; can't find any diagnostic info in
logs. Ctrl-Alt-Bksp restart fixes it for another day or two, but
crashes all in-flight desktop apps, of course. I've been trying newer
kernels [currently 2.6.33-020633rc5-generic]; no joy, just happened
again a few minutes ago. When time allows I'll try PPA and report
results.

[Bug 1745651] Re: Ubuntu suspends after login

2018-02-24 Thread Floyd Taylor
Sorry for delay in responding. I was traveling away from system with
problem.

Bug did not occur in 4.13.0-31 generic

Bug appeared after update to 4.13.0-32 generic

Bug appears to be fixed in 4.13.0-36 generic which installed along with
other updates when I returned from travel.

I am relatively new to Linux & Ubuntu. The system exhibiting the problem
is one I rely on for everyday work. I chose to install the "LTS" version
under the assumption that it was the more stable, better tested version.
I am not at all familiar with the methods of installing and trying
different releases and do not want to risk the system I rely on. I did
discover that the "Advanced" startup options for Ubuntu allow me to run
every previous version since the initial install. That allowed me to
provide the information above. I hope the information provided is
adequate. I will post again if the bug reappears after any future update
to the LTS version.

Thanks for your assistance.

[Bug 1842370] [NEW] 18.04 on 1st boot Display Port signal lost

2019-09-02 Thread Floyd Williams
Public bug reported:

18.04.2    Load from CD   select Try: runs perfect Asus 28" PB287Q connected
thru Display Port.

Loads with 3840x2160

In settings: changed to 2560x1440

Run xrandr -q

3840x2160 with 30 refresh

2560x1440 with 60 refresh

Installed on Hard Drive

On 1st boot the Display Port signal is lost -I think that the 30 refresh
might be getting over written with 60

16.04 will load & work perfect

This 18.04 install will boot in a system with a 24" monitor

xrandr -q

1920x1080  60.00*

Down Loaded 18.04 02  re-installed and updated

I need help getting 2560x1440 60  &  3840x2160 30 in the setting

** Affects: ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

RE: [Bug 1842370] Re: 18.04 on 1st boot Display Port signal lost

2019-09-04 Thread Floyd Williams
Chris thank for your reply, but I think I have a bug:

I am very impressed with Ubuntu and have enjoyed using for a long time, but
I have never been able to use 18.04 18.04.2 18.04.3.

1st download 13.01 used in a dual boot with windows XP

2nd download 14.04 dual boot with xp64

3rd download 16.04 dual boot with xp64
Asus A88XPRO MB (latest bios 2603) with AMD A10-7890K
Asus 28” PB287Q monitor
Loads & operated perfect with 4K monitor

4th download 18.04 04/28/2018 loaded on HD failed to boot
5th download 18.04.2 03/16/2019 loaded on HD failed to boot
6th download 18.04.3 08/31/2019 loaded on HD failed to boot

All:
Try Ubuntu: run perfect from CD and have good display drivers (3840x2160)
In settings change to 2560x1440

Install on hard drive
I have loaded the latest release on 4 different reformatted HD 12 times in
the last 16 months.

After loading on HD the good drivers are deleted or lost - will not
boot

Is it possible that the error log is not be transmitted because of the boot
failure?

Regards,

Floyd Williams

fyi: If it was treated as a bug, you'd firstly be asked to check it
does the same with the latest Ubuntu 18.04.3 (with 5.0 kernel & updated
software-stack).

Bug reports though are primarily about finding and fixing bugs for
future users. Support (questions) are about fixing your current problem
and raising bug reports if they are deemed necessary.

[Bug 1745651] Re: Ubuntu suspends after login

2018-02-03 Thread Floyd Taylor
After following the emailed instruction to run apport-collect 1745651
the thought occurred that perhaps you needed that to be run immediately
after power-up & login when the problem occurs. The system had been up
for several days when the log files were collected.

Please let me know if I need to collect & submit the log files
immediately after a cold startup.

Thank you for your interest in solving this bug.

[Bug 1034487] [NEW] ISO disk image not read by disc Creator

2012-08-08 Thread FLoyd Roberts
Public bug reported:

Trying to create a bootable USB stick (actually this is being done to
recover an interupted (power line failure) upgrade to 12.04) I am able
to boot my system with an alternate hard drive, and the drive is seen
and the files seem present, however I need to install/reinstall a new
version of 12.04. Thus the need for a bootable USB (cd drive does not
work) - USB creator will find the USB stick fine, however the downloaded
ISO is apparently never loaded. This might be similar to

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usb-creator/+bug/500526

but I am not savvy enough to know. I have tried running disk creator
from the command line but get the following

floyd@DPR1500:~$ usb-creator-gtk -i ubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386.iso
isoinfo: Short read on old image

Suggestion is that the iso is bad so I will download another, but any
guidance would be appriciated -- I am still basically just trying to
recover the system from a poorly timed power failure.

[Bug 565697] Re: nvidia dual monitor seperate x server mouse cursor gets stuck

2010-06-25 Thread Edwin Floyd
I have a similar issue. Laptop is ASUS C90S running 64-bit Ubuntu 10.04
with GeForce 8600M GT and 195.36.24 driver. With external monitor in
"Separate X screen", mousepad cursor gets trapped as soon as it's moved
to the external monitor desktop. Oddly, my wireless mouse, when it's
working (flaky bluetooth support!) moves effortlessly between desktops.

[Bug 1300004] Re: gedit does not elevate privileges while it's being launched

2019-11-13 Thread Floyd Taylor
Old version of gedit that installed by default in Ubuntu 18.04.3 clean
install just done today allows saving a file or "save as" to any
directory. Snap version of "Text Editor" which purports to be gedit
version 3.32.0 can't save a file anywhere I've tried. The error is that
I don't have permission even though I do have permission to Read AND
Write files in the directories I've tried.

Thinking that there may have been conflict, I uninstalled "old gedit"
via sudo apt remove gedit, then uninstalled and reinstalled "New gedit"
aka "Text Editor" from the Ubuntu Software app. No improvement.

FWIW if it's supposed to be gedit call it gedit. Look at VLC for an
example of old version and new snap version both listed and installable
in the Ubuntu Software store. Choose the version you want. It's a new
VERSION with a new install source not a new App.
