[Bug 1584356] Re: Difficulty with text selection in BQ M10 Tablet

2016-06-24 Thread Femma
I've been testing this and it looks like the issue is about
responsiveness for the M10 hardware and the handles are not responding
to the larger display. This is not an intended feature and will be
addressed.

[Bug 1555080] Re: In dual panel mode, in some cases it is not possible to create new conversations

2016-03-11 Thread Femma
** Description changed:

  Consider the following case:

  - Open messaging-app in dual panel mode (desktop, pocket desktop or arale in
landscape mode)
  - Click one existing conversation
  - Open the contact profile, or click the add to contact button
  - Press "+" on the header to create a new conversation

  Currently in this case nothing happens, but it is expected that somehow
  the new conversation page appears.
+
+ UX Solution:
+ If changed are made a prompt should appear asking you to save or discard
changes.
+ If no changes are made then create a new conversation.

Is there anyway of bypassing focus for a disabled item and showing focus

up with 'invisible focus'.

[Bug 1611327] Re: Disabled ListItem inside ListView takes focus but does not show focus ring

2016-08-10 Thread Femma
** Description changed:

  Items outside of a ListView are skipped when using keyboard navigation
  to change the focus. However, a ListItem inside a ListView takes the
  focus even when it is disabled, but it does not show the focus frame
  when focused.

  For example, execute this QML program:

  import QtQuick 2.4
  import Ubuntu.Components 1.3

  Item {
  width: units.gu(50)
  height: units.gu(50)

  ListView {
  anchors.fill: parent
  delegate: ListItem {
  enabled: index != 2
  Label {
  anchors.centerIn: parent
  text: parent.enabled ? "enabled" : "disabled"
  }
  }
  model: 5
  }
  }

  Press TAB to focus on the ListView. Then press the down-cursor-key twice
  to move the focus down inside the ListView. The focus will be on the
  disabled item, but not focus frame is visible This is confusing for the
  user since the focus seems to disappear, and the Item where the focus
  seems to be (although invisible) cannot be triggered because it is
  disabled.

  Note: When fixing this bug, also test the solution for Horizontal
  ListViews (and RightToLeft and BottomToTop directions), since I
  encountered this bug in the scrolling toolbar (in progress) that has a
  Horizontal, RightToLeft ListView.
+
+ ==UX Fix===
+
+ Bypass focus for a disabled item and show focus immediately for the next
+ available enabled item.

[Bug 1521518] Re: No way to invoke OSK when a hardware keyboard is connected

2017-02-08 Thread Femma
** Description changed:

  There are mice on the market that claim to be keyboards as well. This
  inhibits OSK. We can try and find out how many keys they have and be
  smart about it.

  Regardless, we should have a way of forcing the OSK, especially on
  touch-enabled devices. Whether it's triggered by a touch (as opposed to
  mouse click) on the text area, or with a button in the text field
  (replaced with the clear icon when you start typing). Another option is
  the copy/paste dropdown.

+ UX solution:
+ Interim solution until the ideal solution can be implemented :
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1YbA0LEwbsNVf2O5C0ObNFRv3Tsuqn2HyYCsjEcY02OA/edit#

+
+ Ideal UX solution
  :

  The on-screen keyboard should appear if:
  * no external keyboard is connected, and a text field becomes focused; or
  * an external keyboard is connected, but the most recent text typed anywhere
was with the OSK, and a text field becomes focused; or
  * an external keyboard is connected, and the most recent text typed was with
an external keyboard, but you tap in the already-focused text field. (App
developers are responsible for emulating this behavior in typable areas that
are not text fields.)

  == original description ==

  1. Boot nexus 7
  2. In the login screen, test that OSK works by tapping the password textfield
  3. swipe keyboard back down after testing it works
  4. Turn on Bluetooth mouse to get a mouse cursor
  5. Click on password textfield

  OSK doesn't pop up, touch tapping on the field doesn't bring up the OSK
  anymore either.

  ie. The login screen is not usable with mouse connected - cannot type in
  password via OSK since it doesn't come up when clicking the password
  textfield with mouse.

  See attached screenshot. Focus on textfield. Would expect OSK to show
  up.

+ I am currently developing a convergence capable CAD App and i recently

  This doesn't suit my particular application as I would like to maintain

  Especially in the landscape mode, the onscreen keyboard takes up a large
portion of the screen. Potentially it can overlap the window where the text is
being typed into, so you cannot see what you're typing.
  This could be VERY easily solved by letting users to set transparency level
for the entire onscreen keyboard. Attached is my concept of maliit keyboard at
70% opacity on Ubuntu Touch phone, in landscape windowed mode.

[Bug 1611327] Re: Disabled ListItem inside ListView takes focus but does not show focus ring

2016-09-28 Thread Femma
** Description changed:

  Items outside of a ListView are skipped when using keyboard navigation
  to change the focus. However, a ListItem inside a ListView takes the
  focus even when it is disabled, but it does not show the focus frame
  when focused.

  For example, execute this QML program:

  import QtQuick 2.4
  import Ubuntu.Components 1.3

  Item {
  width: units.gu(50)
  height: units.gu(50)

  UbuntuListView {
  anchors.fill: parent
  delegate: ListItem {
  enabled: index != 2
  Label {
  anchors.centerIn: parent
  text: parent.enabled ? "enabled" : "disabled"
  }
  }
  model: 5
  }
  }

  ==UX Fix===

- Bypass focus for a disabled item and show focus immediately for the next
- available enabled item.
+ A disabled item should take focus but will not be actionable. The colour
+ of the disabled list item with focus on top will be enough to indicate
+ that it is disabled and focussed. Normal focus behaviour should resume
+ for enabled list items.

[Bug 1222787] Re: [SDK] No standard error appearance for text fields and other controls

2016-05-27 Thread Femma
Error handling pattern:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1rUsPorlYkeetQNYyFWn74mtOY2L4Us53Zx9XujRTPCM/edit

** Changed in: ubuntu-ux
   Status: In Progress => Fix Committed

** Description changed:

  [Updated description]

-
- The toolkit does not have a standard error appearance for text fields, other
controls, or captions.
+ The toolkit does not have a standard error appearance for text fields,
+ other controls, or captions.

  The error appearance should be used for fields that you have filled out
  incorrectly, other controls that have a disallowed state, and captions
  explaining the problem with individual controls.

  Examples:

  * If you choose a time in a restaurant reservation system, submit the
  request, and the server responds that that time is unavailable, the time
  picker should retain the previous value (so you can see what you chose)
  but should have the error appearance. A caption should appear below it
  explaining the problem: for example, “Sorry, 7:30pm is unavailable. Try
  earlier or later.".

  * Similarly, the validity of a checkbox, radio button, switch, etc
  selection might be too complex or volatile to check on the client side
  of an app. If the server side responds that the selection isn't allowed,
  the control should adopt the standard error appearance, and a caption
  below if necessary.

  * Changing the SIM PIN requires entering the current PIN. The phone
  can't check the correctness of the current PIN with every character you
  type, because trying an incorrect PIN three times or so will lock the
  SIM. Instead, it is checked only once you submit the dialog. *Then* if
  the current PIN turns out to be wrong, that field should get the
  standard error appearance (maybe a pale pink background, and/or a maroon
  border, and/or a brief flash), and an explanatory caption below it.

  * All the captions mentioned above should have their own consistent
  error appearance. (Maybe maroon text.)

  –––

  Desired resolution:

  An error state with examples of multiline captions will be added to the
  SDK UI work underway.
+
+ UX fix:

[Bug 1536679] Re: Some items should look different when a keyboard is attached

2016-05-27 Thread Femma
** Description changed:

  currentindex ListItems should looks different when keyboard is attached.

  To be able to navigate with keyboard in a list,grid[view] the current
  item should have a different visual to point which is the selected item.

  This is valid only when using keyboard we do not want the item to appear
  selected if we do not have a keyboard.

  I think the same idea apply to focused buttons and others items, but the
  design team probably has a best understand about that.

  UX Fix:
  We currently have a focus state spec as well as visuals as part of the SDK
work we are undertaking. This addresses the issue stated and is currently being
implemented. Keep your eyes peeled :)

[Bug 1576302] Re: Cannot use keyboard to navigate the UITK gallery in single-column mode

2016-05-27 Thread Femma
** Description changed:

  Start the UITK gallery, and resize the window to have a single column.

  Now, with TAB you can navigate between the actions in the header, and
  the ListView with that list the different Pages with components. But it
  is not possible to use the arrow keys to select a ListItem, and then
  press ENTER/SPACE to open that page, because pressing the arrow
  (up/down) key automatically triggers the ListItem (onClicked?) and opens
  the Page. So only the first Page (ActionBar) can be opened using
  keyboard navigation when you have only one column.
+
+ UX Fix:
+ In a single column view only the arrow keys for selection should be turned
off and just move up and down the list, to select enter should be used.

[Bug 1486008] Re: leading actions width is too small making it very difficult to press on Nexus 4 (mako)

2015-08-21 Thread Femma
The touch area should be the region of the entire leading action (or red
area).

If the width looks reasonable and this bug is only happening on the mako
device, then could this be an implementation/environment issue?

[Bug 1407930] Re: [sdk] Need to educate users about drag-for-action gestures

2015-06-26 Thread Femma
I think maybe an arrow, small dots or a small sneak peak may be better,
if should provide the user with an affordance that they can swipe to
reveal contextual type actions. On iOS I believe the arrow near the time
stamp is indicative of this.

[Bug 1378350] Re: Need to allow multiple apps to handle the same url patterns

2015-07-03 Thread Femma
Upon investigation, I have made the following discoveries.

If you have a mail to link and gmail installed and set up, when you
click on the 'mail to' link nothing happens (this assumption should also
hold if you have no mail client installed).

If you have Dekko installed and set up, when you click on the 'mail to'
link, the user is taken to the Dekko app and a new email screen to the
'mail to' email address.

I shall post a UX solution to this hopefully today.

[Bug 1378350] Re: Need to allow multiple apps to handle the same url patterns

2015-07-03 Thread Femma
** Description changed:

  Steps:
  * install gmail and dekko apps

  Expected:
  * when using a mailto: URL (see bug #1351222) URL, the user should be asked
which app to open (and cache the response optionally?)

  Current:
  * not sure what would happen ;)
+
+ Design resolution _
+
+ Case 1: If no email client is installed and a user clicks on a 'mail to'
+ link, the user should be re-directed to the Ubuntu store and prompted to
+ download the Dekko app.
+
+ Case 2: If the user has Dekko installed, then clicking on the 'mail to'
+ link should open the Dekko client --> compose mail screen to the 'mail
+ to' address.
+
+ Case 3: If the user has Dekko and Gmail installed, the 'mail to' link by
+ default should open in the Dekko client. However, the user can change
+ their mail client preferences in system settings.
+
+ Case 4: If the user has Gmail and another mail client installed, the
+ 'mail to' link should default to the first client that was installed on
+ their device (which would be the default mail client preference in
+ system settings - this can be changed by the user via system settings).
+
+ Notes:
+ 1. Wherever the user has not actively changed a mail client preference and
Dekko is installed on their device, the default 'mail to' client should be
Dekko.
+ 2. When clicking on a 'mail to' link, the user's expectation is to have this
link open in a relevant client (unless it is case 1), therefore this should be
the case and any mail preference choices the user can perform via system
settings rather than being presented with multiple choice options of which
client to open the URL in.

[Bug 1378350] Re: Need to allow multiple apps to handle the same url patterns

2015-08-03 Thread Femma
>From a UX and design point of view Dekko should be the Ubuntu phone eco-
system's client of choice. We are currently working on making this
happen from the conversations I have had.

The system settings UI would need to be updated to reflect this.

By default mail to including imap should translate to default mail
client, unless specified by user in system settings.

I hope this helps.

[Bug 1370460] Re: [SDK] When scrolling a flickable with a slider, the slider can be activated by accident

2015-08-03 Thread Femma
** Description changed:

  - When scrolling a flickable with a slider, the slider can be activated
  by accident

- Recommended solution:
- Have 2 separate events
- 1) Tap and Release (not just tap) to change the value in the slider
- 2) Tap and Drag (Y axis) to keep dragging the flickable
+ UX Solution:
+
+ This behaviour should not occur. One potential way of fixing this is to
+ have a threshold in the slider so that the value of the slider is not
+ changed if you don't go above the threshold.

[Bug 1384814] Re: [System Settings] lock screen not honoring timeout setting from system-settings

2015-08-04 Thread Femma
"But if I press the power button before 10 minutes it should not lock
the screen. This is how iphone works."

This is not true of iOS. If I set auto lock to 'never' and then press
the power button then the phone does lock.

I agree with Iain "I personally like the phone locking straight away
when I press the power button." There should be a quick and easy way to
lock your screen, should you not wish to wait 10 minutes (or whatever
has been set) and the power button is a good way to do this.

[Bug 1459701] Re: [system settings] [hotspots/tethering] is often mentally associated with Wi-Fi, but the UI is under Cellular

2015-08-04 Thread Femma
After investigating how competitors address tethering in settings, it
turns out that tethering is neither under wifi nor cellular, but instead
has it's own category. I would suggest we adopt the same pattern for our
device, as most users will not expect to find this setting under either
of those categories. (Competitor screen shots addressed).

[Bug 1431876] Re: [System Settings] Hotspot design unnecessarily makes key compulsory

2015-08-04 Thread Femma
Jonas, in regards to your message as to whether the password field would
be empty due to the password field becoming optional, the password field
has never contained a generated password. The user has always had to
enter their own password. The only change is that now the buttons will
become sensitive on default.

** Description changed:

  The current design for setting up a hotspot assumes that it must always have
a key.

  Tony Espy points out that this may be unnecessary and annoying where
  you, or people you trust, are the only people in range of the hotspot
  for usable periods of time. For example, when camping or on a road trip.

  This could be fixed by making the key optional. For example, adding a
  "Require a key to connect" checkbox, where the "Key:" field is present
  only when the checkbox is checked.
+
+ UX Resolution:
+
+ The password field is now optional.
