Because compiz can't work with XineRama, and mergeFB work very great on
ati radeon free driver with it, I think it should be better to use it
for theses card (I think MergeFB is present on the intel driver too ??)

[Bug 157796] Widescreen checkbox make confusion ....

2007-10-27 Thread Fabien Lusseau
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: displayconfig-gtk

Because if I select a widescreen resolution on the list, why should I
use the widescreen checkbox too ?

What is his utility ?

Is it for helping the Autodetection with the plug'n'play driver ?

It could be better to remove this checkbox, and make it automatically
for self selected model, and for the plug'n'play driver answer after
selecting the driver if it is a widescreen or a normal screen.

[Bug 153400] Trouble with nvidia and compiz when changing my screen configuration

2007-10-16 Thread Fabien Lusseau
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: displayconfig-gtk

When I install nvidia proprietary drivers, some options are added in the
driver section to use compiz with theses cards, but if I use
displayconfig (for changing the resolution of my screen) theses option
are deleted, and make compiz unusable.

I have uninstalled proprietaries drivers and reinstalled it and it re
work perfectly, because it add the some options that have been deleted
by displayconfig.

The options that are missing:

Option "AddARGBVisuals""True"
Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"
Option "NoLogo""True"

I think this bug is because I have migrated of feisty to gutsy ... and
displayconfig-gtk have to rewrite all the config file ...

[Bug 147724] Please add opera translations in the opera package

2007-10-01 Thread Fabien Lusseau
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: opera

Because I'm French, I have to download a translation file in
http://www.opera.com/download/languagefiles/

And I have to choose it in the folders on opera with
Tools->Preferences... and in 'general' on the language choosing box

It could be better to have all the translations in
/usr/share/opera/locale by default to make it easier.

2007-09-21 Thread Fabien Lusseau
Yes, I have find it in blacklisted hardware ... but the problem is that
I use the zoom plugin of compiz for video projected openoffice
presentations ...

2d acceleration doesn't work !, it is not a problem for me, but if
compiz doesn't work it can be.

I think it will be a good thing if in Apparence->Desktop effect A
warning advertise you that you will have problems with videos, but you
can activate it too ...

An other fix can be Xv is disabled for all video programs when compiz is
activated on each hardware by editing automatically xorg.conf if
possible, or only totem or explication on the warning in apparence-
Desktop effect to know the manipulations.

I think it is too violent to do it ...

And of course disabling compiz at default for theses hardware.

But it is a good idea to blacklist hardware that doesn't work correctly.

2007-09-23 Thread Fabien Lusseau
Yes this theme is perfect (I think that kHz, Kbps and mono stereo will
be added to this skin for the release) , the next release will be
perfect and actually can fully replace xmms for me :)

adding a system to change the skin at all change of song (like xmms) can
be a good new feature.

With the latest stable release (of ubuntu gutsy) I also have a problem

[Bug 174346] FlashPlayer installation problem, because of the MD5 Check ...

2007-12-06 Thread Fabien Lusseau
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: flashplugin-nonfree

FlashPlayer have been updated recently ... and the md5 checking block
the installation of the new version ...

I think a backport will be uploaded ... but for the newbie, that install
Ubuntu Gutsy now ... It is a really big problem ...

Before in Ubuntu Feisty, if the installation of the repositories version
of flashplayer failed, Firefox can automatically download it from the
adobe website, and the newbie don't have any problem ...

But now with Ubufox extension ... it can't install it anymore ...

Because of this very big problem, i think, for Hardy, that this MD5
check, can be go out ...

Because this program is nonfree ... I think the MD5 don't help anymore
... the user know this problem ... And the MD5 cause o lot of problem
...

I have tested the last version of flashplayer with nspluginwrapper it work well

[Bug 165064] Synaptic shouldn't block apt when he is idle !

2007-11-25 Thread Fabien Lusseau
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: synaptic

Synaptic (and adept) block use of apt-get aptitude, or any other package
manager, but when synaptic is idle, it is nor necessary.

This but could prevent bug of newbie, that install module-assistant with
synaptic to install his webcam, but have this error:

E: Impossible de verrouiller /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11 Ressource
temporairement non disponible)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another
process using it?

Because he haven't close synaptic (to use it latter for example).

I know a lot a newbies that have the same error, and for us, it is
critical ...

And because this line:

E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is
another process using it?

is not translatable, and is not very comprehensive, (an error message
displaying: "is another package manager is running ?" at place of "is
another process using it?" and making it translatable, could close this
bug too !)

[Bug 550507] [NEW] pbzip2 should replace bzip2

2010-03-28 Thread Fabien Lusseau
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bzip2

We almost all use multithreading capable computers. And nearly nothing
on linux uses that !

pbzip2 offer a really good solution ! The performances are the same as
standard bzip2 on no multi possessors systems. And pbzip2 use exactly
the same compression (total compatibility bzip2 -> pbzip2; pbzip2 ->
bzip2)

Using pbzip2 directly could show our interest about using the real
potential of recent computers.

And can increase slightly the .deb installation performances if we use
bzip2 in a future standard. (I am dreaming for that last one ...)

I will boot a 64bits live cd and check if it work ...

(I also compiled the last svn of vlc and x264, and cpu extension work i
think vlc use x264 the same way as x264 (the tool) use it, and not as
linked library like ffmpeg and mencoder)

[Bug 555195] [NEW] zr36067 works only with DC10 cards

2010-04-04 Thread Fabien Lusseau
Public bug reported:

zr36067 use the flag card= to manually detect a card.

DC10 work, but if i try to activate my DC30:

sudo modprobe -r zr36067

sudo modprobe zr36067 card=3 debug=2

nothing work and dsmeg show this:

It's really annoying because i cant use this card in ubuntu ...

Nothing over the web explain what "zoran_probe - no codec found" means
...

I'm stuck ... I worked great before Karmic ... and In Karmic and in my
daily updated Lucid nothing at all ...

2014-04-18 Thread Fabien Lusseau
I tested on a KINGSTON v300 and a v100 and everything works fine.

I used the discard mount option as it seems to be the most efficient to detect
this misbehavior.
And then I started:

sudo apt-get build-dep libreoffice; apt-get source -b libreoffice

It worked fine, I also tried with periodic fstrim -v /
No problem either.

I'm now starting to do the same test on a Kingspec C3000.6 and several
other models from the same manufacturer.

2014-04-02 Thread Fabien Lusseau
What kind of heavy simple test can I run on my Kingston and Kingspec
SSDs to know if they also are affected by this kind of problems ?

A simple testing method should help build the whitelist/blacklist.

I have access to several SSDs from a lot of manufacturers, the only ones
that are not already whitelisted are Kingston and Kingspec, I have some
of them of various models, so I may be able to help.

I'm already using them with discard enabled, but I'm not usually doing
anything crazy on them. If I should compile LibreOffice or do some kind
of stress testing on them, I will if you ask me.

The most frequently used apps is excluding the apps from the launcher.
So this bug should be closed or marked as resolved.

[Bug 930148] Re: Dodge windows is down but what about making the launcher autohide only on maximised apps ?

2012-02-15 Thread Fabien Lusseau
** Description changed:

I was using dodge windows in unity mainly because it make the launcher
go out of the way on maximized apps (like Kdenlive who is benefiting a
- lot from unity's capability of making the most place usable).
+ lot from unity's capability of making the most space usable).

- But I don't was never hiding the launcher when I use minimized apps
- (like firefox on the left and openoffice on the righ part of the screen)
+ But I was never hiding the launcher when I use "windowed" apps (like
+ firefox on the left and openoffice on the righ part of the screen)
because it helped me a lot switching with something else rapidly (like
  thunderbird, pidgin, etc)

What I think to be a good third behavior of the launcher is to hide
- itself when one app or more are fullscreen and if they are not being
+ itself when one app or more are fullscreen and if they are not, being
  always there.

There is some corner cases like if one app is full screen and the
focused app is not. But I think this will not bring some crazy bugs like
dodging windows did in the past.

[Bug 579300] Re: Please disable CONFIG_SOUND_OSS* and CONFIG_SND_*OSS*

2010-11-20 Thread Fabien Lusseau
5. XawTV and all the tools for V4L (Video4Linux TV cards Drivers) that
are bundled with. There if a solution for this entry, and it is to add
XdTV (that is an updated version of XawTV) to the universe repository.
But it will not append ... (The bug entry for package required is here
for more than 3 years and no packages showed up)

> SOLUTION: re-enable it in the official kernel, blacklist its modules
by default.

Yeah that's a good and simple idea, a dkms module or a module package
can be really easier to end user.

And why not just re-enable it by default ? because this module can cause
"troubles" only if we install some OSS only apps and we want to use it
at the same time of another sound application ... And OSS only apps are
very specific ... As I see, the only persons that are really touch be
this problem is "Linux gamers" and "TV card Users"

[Bug 1283003] [NEW] [Bluetooth + 14.04] Bluetooth headsets are not working after last couple of updates

2014-02-21 Thread Fabien Lusseau
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I found a bug in Ubuntu 14.04 !

I tried to pair a bluetooth stereo headset (A2DP compatible). The
pairing process goes well, but after that I can't select it on the audio
preferences.

When I select it, it only shows the last selected item options and don't do
anything. (he should switch to the headset output).
I must mention that it worked very well on Ubuntu 12.04.

This bug can be in the bluetooth stack or in unity-control-center or
maybe pulseaudio. I actually have no idea.

2013-10-19 Thread Fabien Lusseau
Public bug reported:

I updated Ubuntu, and x264 is no longer working.

It worked one week ago.

It's an instant crash from ffmpeg or avidemux everytime I try to encode
something.

Please ask me if you want more informations, but it doesn't seem to be a
difficult task to hunt this bug if it crash on every computer like it
does with mine.

[Bug 682788] Re: Improve Unity menus

2012-05-21 Thread Fabien Lusseau
@Chris: We can also argue that having a global menu for anything make
the user maximize because this user don't want to move his mouse all
over his desk to only reveal a menu ...

I know I feel this problem, and I maximize nothing. Having this option
(use global menu only for maximized windows) will actually make my
desktop more efficient for unmaximized windows ...

I don't know why you are thinking the opposite, I think "use global menu
only for maximized windows" will not do anything about your "fear" of
... of what actually ?!

I mean come on ! It's not like someone will change all his behaviors
depending on (on large screens) 2% more wasted space.

And even me, that is extremely annoyed by theses recurring search of the
missing menu have not changed my behaviors at all in that matter.
