[Bug 530124] [NEW] [USB-Audio - Z-10 USB Speaker] Volume scaling wrong in lucid, regression

2010-03-01 Thread Ernst Sjöstrand
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image

Kernel 2.6.32 no longer gives the correct volume range information about these
speakers.
It works fine in karmic. This is really an upstream bug report, I have filed it
here:
https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=4803
With kernel 2.6.31 and libasound 1.0.20 I got perfect volume ranges for my
Logitech Z-10 USB Speakers, -41,00 dB to 1,24 dB feels just about right.

When I upgraded to 2.6.32-rc6 I didn't get any range information at all
until I upgraded to libasound 1.0.21. Now I'm getting completely bogus
volume range information, 0 dB to 3 dB

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 530124] Re: [USB-Audio - Z-10 USB Speaker] Volume scaling wrong in lucid, regression

2010-05-26 Thread Ernst Sjöstrand
The volume scaling is much better if you install a newer kernel like this:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.34-lucid/
Not the same as in Karmic, but better than in Lucid. So hopefully this will be
fixed in Maverick.

[Bug 475090] Re: Karmic /etc/gdm/Xsession fails to source ~/.xsessionrc or apply ~/.Xresources

2010-02-04 Thread Ernst Sjöstrand
Right so the new GDM runs all the scripts in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/*
_BUT_, it doesn't run /etc/X11/Xsession which sets up the USERXSESSIONRC
variable.
So my workaround was to simply add
USERXSESSIONRC=$HOME/.xsessionrc
to the beginning of
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/40x11-common_xsessionrc

[Bug 522875] Re: ubiquity crashed with AttributeError in on_advanced_button_clicked()

2010-02-16 Thread Ernst Sjöstrand
So I get both
Feb 16 21:51:03 ubuntu kernel: [ 5102.344572] ubiquity[10420]: segfault at
7f192c2b6840 ip 7f19400a1494 sp 7fff96c34940 error 4 in

on_advanced_button_clicked
 self.set_summary_device(self.grub_device_entry.child.get_text())

Apport doesn't produce a backtrace for the glib segfault, that's probably some
kind of bug with ubiquity being a python application?
So is this a dupe of #509838? Probably.

What does "move away from" mean? They just removed this and there's no

[Bug 502542] [NEW] kernel BUG at /build/buildd/linux-rt-2.6.31/fs/ext4/extents.c:1184!

2010-01-03 Thread Ernst Sjöstrand
Public bug reported:

This has happened a couple of times recently under heavy disk IO, not sure why
because this hasn't happened for a long time before.
So the setup is: Karmic host with ext4 filesystem.
Karmic KVM guest with encrypted filesystem on a disk-file on the ext4
filesystem.
The BUG is on the host.

You can see that this happens both with 2.6.31-16 and 2.6.31-9-rt (which
is a bit older, right?).

[Bug 1751414] Re: [regression] Missing Wayland login option and missing GL acceleration, after installing libegl1

2018-04-25 Thread Ernst Sjöstrand
apt-cache depends libegl1
libegl1
  Depends: libc6
  Depends: libglvnd0
 |Depends: libegl-mesa0
  Depends:
libegl-mesa0
libnvidia-gl-390

For some reason libnvidia-gl-390 existed on my system (no nvidia hardware in
this system).
That caused libegl-mesa0 to not be installed and that broke my system.

I think I uploaded a crash with id 02e64840-7e78-11eb-941e-fa163ee63de6
but I have no idea how to find it.

[Bug 1695605] Re: Ubuntu installer crashed

2017-06-05 Thread Ernst Sjöstrand
It was an install to a newly formatted partition, formatted outside Ubuntu
installer. So completely empty.
I didn't really have any problems, however I guess the installer shouldn't
crash in this case...

[Bug 1717340] [NEW] [artful] Keyboard doesn't work after logging in to gnome

2017-09-14 Thread Ernst Sjöstrand
Public bug reported:

After I type my password in GDM and come to the gnome desktop, no keys are
working. Not even caps lock toggling.
However, I found out that if I toggle "Slow keys" in the accessibility
settings, it starts working again!
To clarify, Slow keys and all other accessibility is disabled from start, but
turning Slow keys on and off again makes my keyboard work.
I seem to have to do this once after every _reboot_.

This is on a system that has upgraded to Artful.

2017-09-15 Thread Ernst Sjöstrand
Damn, I was certain that it was solved exactly when toggling Slow Keys, but
next time that didn't work.
It's interesting that the problem remains after logging out, so I can't type my
password anymore and log in a second time. Suggests it's outside the user
session somehow...

[Bug 1717340] Re: [artful] Keyboard Logitech G15 doesn't work after logging in to gnome

2017-09-15 Thread Ernst Sjöstrand
Ok more clues. My keyboard is a Logitech G15 Gaming keyboard. It has lots of
features, which present themselves to Linux as various devices. The regression
somewhere around that.
And it's a userspace regression, the same kernel with Ubuntu 17.04 works fine.

If I connect a very plain USB keyboard that works fine, it's only the
G15 that's giving problems.

So here's xinput from a Ubuntu where it works:

2x scaling used to be configured automatically for 4k screens, wasn't

[Bug 1580480] [NEW] 16.04: overlapping german umlauts (but not all) with Cantarell

2016-05-11 Thread Ernst Sjöstrand
Public bug reported:

I have exactly this bug:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1039770-start-0.html
"Since the latest updates some, but not all, german umlauts are not displayed
correctly. They overlap with a letter beside them.
It's hard to describe, so i made a screenshot.
http://www.paessler.org/umlauts.png

As you can see, the menu-item "Büro" (left, third from top) and
"Aktivitäten-Übersicht" at the bottom display wrong, while other umlauts
(even in the same string) look correct.

Any idea what could cause this? See this at two machines, so maybe
something has changed or is this simply a bug?"

And it's solved by upgrading to Cantarell 0.0.24 and loggin in again.

You can use Unity 2D as a workaround, doesn't trigger this even with

[Bug 1308105] Re: Xfce resets TV mode to NULL when power cycled

2015-06-29 Thread Ernst Sjöstrand
My best solutions to the MythBuntu/XBMC/Kodi usecase:

1) Run a MythBuntu/XBMC/Kodi-session without any desktop at all! They're in
/usr/share/xsessions/
for running completely standalone.

2) Running a really minimal WM that doesn't try to manage screens at all like
Openbox. Works
well with Steam big picture mode.

[Bug 1102348] Re: Evolution cannot add MAPI account

This happened to me also. I tried a couple of times.
Then I logged out and back again and discovered that there were 3 accounts!

I had however made one mistake which prevented it from working correctly,
I must write the domain name in uppercase.

[Bug 936159] Re: Xorg freeze, radeon gpu lockup with softreset

2012-05-14 Thread Ernst Sjöstrand
I can no longer reproduce this with latest xorg-edgers! Xorg-edgers
hadn't been updated in a while and then there was a big push around 2nd
or 4th May, and that solved it. I did not update the kernel when this
stopped happening, so the fix seems to be in userspace. No idea what to
backport...

Still easily reproducible with 3.4-rc2 vanilla and xorg-edgers. No

So in the Ubuntu standard package gallium_drv_video.so is not package:

[Bug 861171] Re: Shutdown from greeter does nothing when multiple accounts open

2012-10-03 Thread Ernst Sjöstrand
Why are you talking about notifications and password prompts, the computer
should shut down (by default) of course!
It could prompt and say "X is logged in, are you really sure you want to shut
down?" but nothing more. If an admin wants to disable it there should be a way
to do that instead.
Let's say I'm logged in but I'm not at home and my wife wants to shut down the
computer. Of course she should be allowed to!

Therefore I think setting org.freedesktop.consolekit.system.stop-
multiple-users to allow_active=yes is a great and correct solution.
What's missing there is a local override solution so and admin of a
multi-seat server could turn it off for example without having it
overwritten everytime policykit updates.

[Bug 1058533] [NEW] Quick way to list all installed applications of category

2012-09-29 Thread Ernst Sjöstrand
Public bug reported:

My son is 5 years old and has a computer with Ubuntu.
He should be able to browse the installed games on the computer but that's
currently impossible. This would be possible with Gnome 2. The Unity dance with
Dash -> the small All Applications icon -> Filter Results -> Games text-only
label -> Expand additional results is just way to complicated.
So I suggest bringing back category icons that show all installed software in
those categories, and making them very discoverable. For example putting them
on the initial dash screen.

[Bug 1012266] [NEW] amd64 and i386 version uses same /etc/alternative and conflicts

2012-06-12 Thread Ernst Sjöstrand
Public bug reported:

I installed the games from Humble Indie Bundle 5 and got some problems.
First Bastion worked fine. Then I installed Psyconauts and Bastion stopped
working.
Bastion depends on libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0:amd64 and Psyconatus depends on
libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0:i386.
Both libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0 packages use the same /etc/alternatives/libtxc-dxtn so
