[Bug 23332] Re: impossible to create openoffice files in nautilus
I'm going to reopen this bug to try out an idea - can a "~/Templates" directory be populated for all users in the same way that the ~/Examples folder is shipped? It would be really useful for Ubuntu to ship a few useful templates by default. Nautilus still includes the "Create Document" feature, which is empty by default in Ubuntu, so it's actually confusing not to ship some templates. ** Changed in: openoffice.org (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => New -- impossible to create openoffice files in nautilus https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/23332 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 304521] Re: "Prefer some human contact" seems dubiously worded
Richard: the original report is fairly clear - John refers to the browser startpage, which is shipped in ubuntu-docs. It's the page which shows up in firefox if you load it up without a net connection. However, I don't see this as a bug. You have to look pretty hard to see innuendo in the wording, and no one has complained about this before for the 4 or 5 releases that we've had this wording. That said, I expect a thorough reworking of the offline startpage for Jaunty, so I think this wording will disappear. For a combination of those two reasons I'm closing the bug. ** Changed in: ubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Importance: Low => Wishlist Status: Incomplete => Won't Fix -- "Prefer some human contact" seems dubiously worded https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/304521 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 255368] Re: ebox: Depends: libapache-authcookie-perl but it is not installable
The task on ubuntu-docs is invalid, this isn't a problem with the documentation as the package should be installable. When the package is fixed, the documentation will work as intended. [Bug 297660] Re: www.ubuntu.com has horizontal scroll bar
Hi, The bug tracker is the appropriate place to report bugs about the website. However, I don't think this is a bug. The website is 888 pixels wide, which is perfectly standard and should not result in horizontal scrolling on any screen with a basic resolution such as 1024x768. It certainly doesn't on my machine. Many other websites are considerably wider. For example, http://www.bbc.co.uk/, which looks like it is 974 pixels wide. In the case of your screenshot, it seems that you are using dual screens, each of which is extremely narrow. Perhaps you could clarify the setup. For the above reasons I'm closing the bug. If your real objection is that the website has a fixed width, then that is something which has been discussed a fair amount in the past and was a conscious choice by the webdesigners. Reopening that discussion is possible, but you should certainly use the ubuntu-website list for that. ** Changed in: ubuntu-website Status: New => Invalid -- www.ubuntu.com has horizontal scroll bar https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/297660 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 210771] Re: School advocacy wrongly speaks about Scribus being Illustrator-like
Ben, Thank for the patch. I think you should also add the last sentence suggested by Timo, to mention Inkscape as well. Timo has also suggested fixing the typo in "capabilities", perhaps you could include that too. We don't really need a changelog entry for documentation, because we tend to collect a few fixes together and upload them with a single changelog entry. But if you want to do a changelog entry for practice, it should be for karmic (we won't fix this bug in Jaunty). You should also try and be more descriptive in the changelog entry, so describe very briefly what change the upload fixes. The correct format to use for citing the Launchpad bug is "LP: #210771" because that will automatically close the bug when the package is uploaded. -- School advocacy wrongly speaks about Scribus being Illustrator-like https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210771 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 357369] Re: Typing error in version numbers
That change constitutes a string change. It's *very* unorthodox to do such a string change just a few days before final release, in particular without giving the translators a change to see and translate the new string. I suppose that if translations are not going to be shipped with xubuntu- docs for Jaunty then the translators could be notified of the change after the release and translations could then be updated; but it's still very odd to make a change like this in the release week. -- Typing error in version numbers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/357369 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I understand, but after the string freeze, a system needs to take place to permit translators to supply translations of the amended string. There may always be serious bugs that require fixing, but there isn't time for the fix to be translated, and therefore the fix should only be done as part of a StableReleaseUpdate after the release, giving time for translation as part of that process. This is all irrelevant if xubuntu-docs will not ship with translations, of course. > Next time I'll bring something like this up on the mailing list before > pushing it through, at such a point in time though. If you or anyone else > feels that the change should be reverted at this point (or at least not > pushed out with the shipped release), let me know. If translations are intended to be released with xubuntu-docs, the proper process should be followed and the change should be reverted. If not, and the release managers for Xubuntu are happy to let in a string change 3 days before the release, then I'm certainly not going to stand in the way of that. However in the future I'd really like to see xubuntu-docs following the same procedures as ubuntu-docs and kubuntu-docs, even though the package is not in the main repository. [Bug 371773] Re: broken iso link on https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/serverguide/C/jeos-initial-setup.html
I was thinking about whether we should be using a variable like this a bit more, and I've had a chat with some of the developers about this. I'm pasting below a snipped version of the log. The conclusion that was come to is that we should avoid using the point release variable in the documentation. In general, we should use 8.04 for the release, and we should seek to avoid using a string with a point release in it where possible. The problem with using the point release variable is that each time a point release is issued, we would have to issue an updated package with the variable amended, and to fix all the translations that referred to the previous string (because translations don't use the variable in the same way as the English version). On that basis, I think the best fix to this bug is to remove the hardcoded url, and use something like this: "Download the JeOS iso file from the http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/jeos/releases/&distro-rev;/release/";>JeOS download page." Is there an issue with linking to the latest version if it means that the other instructions in the JeOS section of the guide might not work for that version of JeOS? [Bug 274845] Re: Consistent terminology
Thanks Martin. On that basis I've changed "unrestricted" to "free" where it appears in the help file as well. I'll attach a patch which I have pushed to the karmic ubuntu-docs branch. While I was at it, for consistency I've changed some of the internal section ids in the document so that they don't use "restricted" either. As a result for karmic you'll need to change the target for the help button, from "ghelp:hardware#restricted-manager" to "ghelp:hardware#jockey". Let me know if that raises any issues and I'll revert it. ** Changed in: ubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Fix Committed -- Consistent terminology https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/274845 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 366098] Re: ubuntu-serverguide has a "DRAFT" watermark
This bug should be fixed in Jaunty, I think. Here is my SRU application: 1. The bug makes the document look unprofessional and gives users the wrong impression that it is not complete or reviewed. 2. The bug hasn't been addressed in our karmic branch, because that branch *will* be for drafting purposes until string freeze in the karmic cycle. But we should remember to change it! 3. Patch attached. 4. Bug is 100% reproducible by opening the file /usr/share/ubuntu-serverguide/html/C/index.html in a browser. 5. Patch has absolutely no regression potential that I can think of. I've targeted the bug to Jaunty. I've thought about whether we should combine this fix with other fixes which may arise for Jaunty. But on reflection I think we should just go ahead and fix it now. Other fixes that we may do in the future are likely to take longer because they may involve re-translation of strings, whereas this one is a straightforward build file fix. -- ubuntu-serverguide has a "DRAFT" watermark https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/366098 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
