If it helps anyone, I'm attaching casper.log, dmesg, and the results of
ls -l /dev from a failure.

[Bug 1241589] Re: ubuntu 13.10 unable to boot on live usb (busy box - initramfs)

2013-12-31 Thread E King
This problem can be recreated in a trivial VirtualBox environment by
attaching a virtual disk image with no partition table, such as a btrfs
volume occupying an entire device directly. I've attached a virtual
disk image of such a device. Simply attach this device as the only
harddisk to a vanilla VirtualBox instance and boot an ubuntu live cd
image.

[Bug 980953] Re: Unable to browse SSHFS mounts

That's not really a fix, is it? It's more of a workaround. I can't
imagine the behavior change was intentional. I think it would make
sense to keep this bug open.

[Bug 1241589] Re: ubuntu 13.10 unable to boot on live usb (busy box - initramfs)

2014-01-17 Thread E King
This has nothing to do with the manner in which the USB stick is created. Per
comment #33, the
problem can be triggered using the original Live CD ISO mounted as a virtual CD
to a VirtualBox
machine in which the only hard disk attached has an unexpected partition table,
such as a full volume
BTRFS filesystem.

[Bug 1241589] Re: ubuntu 13.10 unable to boot on live usb (busy box - initramfs)

2014-03-02 Thread E King
I finally figured out a workaround.

I was able to boot into a live session by passing the "live-media="
parameter from the boot menu, specifying the device path of my USB
device.

(See http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/hardy/man7/casper.7.html for a
description of the live-media parameter.)

I was using a Live Lubuntu Trusty nightly, so the specifics instructions may
vary, but here's what I did:
1. Boot from my USB stick
2. At the boot menu, highlight "Try Lubuntu without installing"
3. Press F6 to bring up the kernel command line
4. Add "live-media=/dev/xxx1" to the end of the line (but before the final
double hypen).

In my case, the path I needed was /dev/sde1, but you will have to use
the path to your install media.

[Bug 795929] [NEW] Natty detects a non-existant monitor

2011-06-11 Thread E King
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Recently upgraded from Lucid->Maverick->Natty.

I have only one monitor attached, but Natty thinks there are two.
xrandr reports both LVDS1 and VGA1 as connected. LVDS1 is the entry
that is incorrect. If I boot with the Maverick kernel instead of the
Natty kernel, xrandr correctly reports only VGA1 attached.

The Monitor Preferences tool also shows two displays, "Dell 17"" and
"Laptop". The "Laptop" is incorrect; this machine is not a laptop, and
only supports a single monitor.

[Bug 648396] Re: [10.04] Ubuntu One still does not sync purchased music (with all updates)

2010-09-26 Thread E King
I am on 10.4 (Lucid) with all current updates.

I purchased my first album from the Ubuntu One Music Store, which
included creating my Ubuntu One account. The audio files made in to the
server (ie., I could see and download them via the web), but did not
sync to my "~/.ubuntuone/Purchased from Ubuntu One" directory until I
used the workaround described in 571548.

I also opened bug 646348; you can close that as a dup of this one.

[Bug 671457] Re: Hard freeze on resume after suspend to ram, Atom D525

2011-02-02 Thread E King
Tested with most recent (daily) mainline kernel build:
linux-image-2.6.38-999-generic_2.6.38-999.201102021140_i386.deb

Resumed failed again, though this time, I got the flashing keyboard
lights indicating a kernel panic. In earlier kernels, the keyboard
lights did not blink.

Following the spinics post referenced by mb in post #4, I found that
disabling certain cpus did indeed allow the system to suspend and
resume.

Thank you.

[Bug 671457] [NEW] Hard freeze on resume after suspend to ram, Atom D525

2010-11-05 Thread E King
Public bug reported:

Hard freeze on resume after suspend to ram

The symptoms are identical to 553498
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/553498) but that
is specific to Core i3/i5/i7 processors, and I am running an Intel Atom
D525. In accordance with comment #63, I am filing a new bug.

Front panel power light comes on, but the system is otherwise frozen
solid. No response from caps lock, no network access via ssh, etc.

System suspends fine (according to /var/log/pm-suspend.log), but will
not resume. Resume from hibernate works.

Performed a resume trace
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend)

No "hash matches" entries in dmesg output. Interestingly, my system
clock was not corrupted after reboot, suggesting the system didn't even
get far enough along during the resume to write a pm trace to the clock.

[Bug 648396] Re: [10.04] Ubuntu One still does not sync purchased music (with all updates)

2010-11-12 Thread E King
Ran into the same problem again today after purchasing three new albums.
Music was available via the Ubuntu One website, but did not sync
locally. "Your Downloads" in the Ubuntu One section of Rythmbox showed
everything as "Queued..." but not downloading. I ran apport-collect
while in this state.

I then performed the workaround and syncing began immediately.

I'm attaching syncdaemon.log from today. Note that this log shows the
creation of "placeholder" (around 10:57:55 am) followed by the download
of the albums I purchased.

[Bug 571548] Re: Songs not downloading, even after a local and server rescan, but available via the web

2010-09-23 Thread E King
Sorry for the "me too", but this is still broken for me on 10.04. This
was my first attempt at using the music store. The "placeholder"
workaround gave it the kick it needed.

** Changed in: ubuntuone-client (Ubuntu Lucid)
   Status: Fix Released => Confirmed
