[Bug 566909] Re: Offline contacts not showed by default

2010-04-19 Thread Draycen DeCator
I can confirm that Empathy does not respect the Gconf setting (apps >
empathy > ui > show_offline).

As Luca mentioned on IRC, this change is marked as being released
upstream (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=612448). Whether
this function used to work or not is currently unknown, so it could be a
regression or it might not be.

[Bug 567075] [NEW] Origami unable to connect to servers

2010-04-20 Thread Draycen DeCator
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: origami

I have origami installed on my 64-bit Ubuntu 10.04 system.
Unfortunately, I have had little luck with it working properly. I have
only received, worked on, and sent back 1 or 2 units in the past few
weeks. The majority of the time (and for the past week now), the FAHlog
shows that a connection cannot be made to the servers. I completely
uninstalled origami and reinstalled today with no success.

Here is the message from the log (which is repeated):
[06:26:07] + Attempting to get work packet
[06:26:07] - Connecting to assignment server
[06:26:08] + No appropriate work server was available; will try again in a bit.
[06:26:08] + Couldn't get work instructions.
[06:26:08] - Attempt #17 to get work failed, and no other work to do.
 Waiting before retry.

I leave my computer on 24/7 now, for the purpose of allowing it to fold
overnight, but these error messages just build up over several days.

Before, when I had a unit to work on, running "origami status" caused my
terminal to be filled with "|" marks. There were so many that I could
not actually see any of the information normally provided (name, link to
stats, etc.) but when I checked the log it would say it was ##% done, so
the unit was actually being worked on.

Another common error that I was receiving before was Core Status: F7 (or
something similar). Unfortunately, since I reinstalled I no longer have
the message in the log, but I can add it later. This error seemed to
happen whenever a connection was actually made with the servers and it
was examining the core.exe files.

I am currently at school with a very good internet connection, and my
school does not filter our internet at all, so I don't believe it's a
network connection issue. At first I thought it was just a problem with
the servers, but the fact that this has gone on so long makes me
skeptical.

When I installed, here is the command I ran:
sudo origami install -t 45104 -u ddecator -p amd64

I'm not sure what the problem could be. Maybe this is not fully
compatible with Lucid? Let me know if there is any debugging work I can
do.

[Bug 561146] Re: firefox takes over whole screen with no exit button in left hand corner

2010-04-20 Thread Draycen DeCator
Since you said this affects other applications as well, I feel that this
is likely an issue that goes beyond Firefox. Can you please try a few
things and answer the following questions for me? Thanks!

1. Are all of the programs encountering this problem using the GNOME window
decoration instead of their own?
2. Is this still occurring in other programs fairly consistently?

I will try to see if I can find any other reports of this happening. For
now, setting the top panel to Autohide (via right-clicking the panel and
selecting Preferences) may allow you to access the buttons that are
being covered up.

[Bug 510548] Re: Crash on certain websites

2010-03-28 Thread Draycen DeCator
Switching back to the 'firefox' package since we are no longer
separating Firefox bugs based on version.

@Lepe
I followed the directions you provided and Firefox 3.7 on Ubuntu 10.04 did not
crash. Could you please run the following command in a terminal:

apport-collect 510548

This will automatically add information about your system to this report
so we can more easily determine the cause of this bug. Bear in mind that
you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the
universe repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect
permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability
to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your
bug report. Thanks in advance!

extensions and re-enable them one by one until you find the problematic
one.

[Bug 549917] Re: Full screen firefox windows controls on right side in Lucid

2010-03-29 Thread Draycen DeCator
I can confirm this on my Lucid machine as well. It seems that the
buttons created when Firefox is in fullscreen may be independent of
metacity, which is what causes the buttons to be on the left normally.
Whether or not this is something that can be "fixed," I'm not sure. The
plan is to have the button location be theme-specific for metacity, but
I'm not sure if the buttons created while in fullscreen can be theme-
specific as well. I'm setting this to Confirmed until we can figure out
how this can be addressed.

[Bug 360752] Re: Terminal doesn't remember position/size in jaunty-lucid

2010-03-29 Thread Draycen DeCator
I tested this with a Live CD of Ubuntu 8.04 and was not able to get
GNOME Terminal to remember the size from when it was last launched. As a
result, I am going to mark this as "Wishlist" since I cannot confirm
that this feature was present in a previous release. If this is in fact
a regression, and it can be proven, then the status can be changed
later.

I am also marking this "Triaged" since it has been filed upstream and
contains enough information for developers to possibly implement this
feature.

[Bug 485352] Re: "window list applet" fails to use its settings (it changes from two rows to one row)

2010-02-08 Thread Draycen DeCator
Thank you for the clarification, I had previously overlooked the .pdf
file in the list.

The good news is that I was able to reproduce your issue on my machine,
but only with the .pdf file. When testing, it seemed as though the
windows list only switched to one row when the title of a window took up
two rows. For example, the .pdf file had a title with an arrow on one
row, followed by the rest of the title underneath it, causing the
windows list to adjust so the title could fit vertically. The website
did not cause this, but it may be displaying differently on your system.
Can you please confirm whether or not this seems to be the case on your
machine?

Also, when I closed the .pdf, the windows list returned to two rows. Is
this happening for you as well?

[Bug 516841] Re: OpenOffice.org applications report Insufficient Disk Space error, How to Allocate more space

2010-02-08 Thread Draycen DeCator
Thank you for responding so quickly. The memory settings you currently
have for OpenOffice are the defaults and should not be the source of the
problem. However, the issue is most likely due to a setting on your
system and not a bug with OpenOffice. As a result, I will be switching
this into a question which will be posted on the Answers section of
Launchpad (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu). You should be able to
receive more help from there. I will subscribe to your question so if

[Bug 517777] Re: Nautilus folder manager generates random colors in folder background when folders are opened.

2010-02-09 Thread Draycen DeCator
Swampy, thank you for letting us know about this temporary workaround. I
will add it to the description so anyone else who encounters this bug
will be able to see it more easily.

** Description changed:

Dell Mini 10v 1GB with Ubuntu/8.04 (hardy) Dell version.

- Here are your: (At a minimum needs asked for in your email):
+ Steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem,
+ 1. Open Nautilus
+ 2. Open a folder (any folder)

- 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
- Answer:
- I have taken ABSOLUTELY NO STEPS TO CAUSE me to encounter this problem!! I
just opened a folder with Nautilus and this problem occured.
+ Behavior you expected:
+ The background of Nautilus would remain the same, as set by the system
default or theme

- 2. the behavior you expected:
- Answer:
- I expect the folder background color to remain the white color that is system
default color which is white when I open any folder!!!
-
- 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible):
- Answer:
+ Observed behavior:
When a user opens any folder on the desktop the folder background (or
wallpaper) changes color frequently from from the (system default of white) to
any color in the spectrum including black and upon repeated openings of any
affected folder the color will not be the (system default of white) using
Ubuntu/8.04 (hardy) Dell version.

- Since my previous report seemed to confuse you or you did not understand
- itI I have summarized and answered your questions as outlined in your
- email to the best of my ability as a NEW USER of Ubuntu /8.04 (hardy)
- system software! If this information is not in the technical format you
- prefer or is not good enough somehow I do not know how else to help you!
+ Temporary workaround:
+ Switch Nautilus to "List" view. You should then be able to switch back to
"Icons" view and the background should be right. However, this will only work
for the one instance.

seconds? If that is true, then this is indeed a bug. Can you please

experiencing, can you please let us know if going to 'Control' ->
'Previous' works correctly or not?

[Bug 519616] Re: Firefox 3.7a2pre crashes on start

2010-02-09 Thread Draycen DeCator
Thank you for taking the time to file this report. Since Firefox 3.7 is
still in testing, there is a good chance that many Add-ons are not yet
compatible. Could you please run 'firefox-3.7 --safe-mode' to see if
Firefox still crashes? This will bring up a menu that gives you the
option of changing certain settings permanently. Do NOT select any of
these checkboxes unless you want to do so. Simply clicking "Continue in
Safe Mode" will make all of these changes for just the one session. If
Firefox still crashes, then there is most likely a bug with the program.
If it does not, then there is most likely an Add-on or Plugin that is
not yet compatible, resulting in the crash.

I am marking this bug "Incomplete" until you report back.

[Bug 519386] Re: not possible to follow Ubuntu bug reporting guidelines for openoffice.org within Lucid

2010-02-10 Thread Draycen DeCator
Thank you for the clarification. I was able to successfully reproduce
your bug on a live CD of Kubuntu 10.04 32-bit with OpenOffice.org 3.1.1.
Tomorrow I will test this further to see if I can better determine the
cause of the issue. For now, I am going to mark this bug as "Confirmed,"
but I am going to wait until I have a clearer understanding of the bug
before sending this report to the developers.

software testing, so if you determine any package that could be the
culprit, even if not in the repos, then feel free to let me know and I

[Bug 485352] Re: "window list applet" fails to use its settings (it changes from two rows to one row)

2010-02-10 Thread Draycen DeCator
Unfortunately I have not been able to get any Japanese characters in the
title to cause this bug. However, depending on the fonts set on your
system, the Japanese characters may be seen as "taller" by your computer
than standard Latin characters. If this is true, then expanding the
height of your panel should cause the windows with Japanese characters
in the title to stop forcing the Windows List into one row. Can you
please confirm whether or not this is true on your system?

There is, currently, no actual setting in the Windows List applet that
allows for making the applet use two rows at all times; it is just
determined automatically based on the height of the panel and the height
of the titles. Do you believe there should be a setting for how many
rows the Windows List applet should use at all times?

Thank you for updating us on your situation. The problem you are
experiencing with the progress bar has been filed under bug #373534
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/rhythmbox/+bug/373534) so please go there
and click "Does this bug affect you?" at the top of the report.

As for your suggestion, I cannot find any previous reports suggesting
Rhythmbox recommend the most compatable codecs. If I can verify that
this has not been recommended for inclusion with Rhythmbox, would you
like to file a "Wishlist" item suggesting that it be implemented?

[Bug 518336] Re: thunderbird-3.0: Please turn off global search by default

2010-02-10 Thread Draycen DeCator
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The "Global Search" feature in Thunderbird simply indexes
all of the mail saved locally so that it can be easily searched within
Thunderbird. A separate setting deals with how Thunderbird handles mail
on a server, the default being to download a copy and leave the original
on the server. This setting can be changed manually by going to Edit ->
Account Settings -> Synchronization and Storage. This setting can be
changed before the mail is downloaded by selecting "Manual Setup" during
the account setup process. However, if you feel that Thunderbird should
provide this option in the automatic account setup, or that it should
warn users that the default setting is to download all emails, then we
can see about submitting a feature request.

[Bug 561744] Re: Firefox uses 100% cpu when visiting pages with flash videos

2010-04-27 Thread Draycen DeCator
Sometimes Firefox profiles can become corrupt and/or extensions can
conflict. Could you please try this with a new profile and see if the
problem still exists? You do not need to delete your old profile to
test. If this helps, you might want to try to disable all your
extensions and re-enable them one by one until you find the problematic
one.

You can start the profile manager with the following command:
firefox -ProfileManager

[Bug 543399] Re: Firefox crashes the OS when I type into the search window

2010-04-27 Thread Draycen DeCator
Also, please check in /var/crash to see if there are any Firefox crash
files in there. Since you get logged out when this happens, apport may
not have been given a chance to tell you about the report being
generated. If you see a file in there, you can double-click it to begin
the submission process of a new bug.

If you do not see any crash reports, then you may need to enable apport
by changing /etc/default/apport and then restarting.

If there was a crash report for you to file, please leave a comment here
so we can close this report and move over to the apport-generated crash
report.

[Bug 561011] Re: Garbled display - Compaq Presario SR1610NX

2010-04-27 Thread Draycen DeCator
Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Could you please answer a few
questions for us?

1. Is Firefox the only application showing this behavior?
2. Could you provide us with a screenshot of the issue?
3. Are there any specific steps that can consistently reproduce this bug, or
does it happen randomly?

[Bug 566334] Re: opened firefox, graphics window fail

That appears to be one of the backgrounds included with Lucid. Are you
using that background, or are you still using the default background?

[Bug 569679] Re: firefox shows "close other session" on first startup

2010-04-27 Thread Draycen DeCator
I just confirmed this using a daily iso of Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit. After
launching Ubuntu One from the MeMenu, then selecting Manage Accounts, I
got the same dialogue, but oddly enough Firefox still started and loaded
the Ubuntu One page.

[Bug 569679] Re: firefox shows "close other session" on first startup

2010-04-28 Thread Draycen DeCator
After testing this issue, this seems to be the cause:
The first time UbuntuOne is launched, it opens Firefox so a new account can be
created. However, it takes a while for Firefox to actually be launched. During
this delay, if Firefox is launched for any other reason (by clicking Manage
Account for instance), then the two launches conflict with one another and only
one starts up. It seems that UbuntuOne locks the Firefox profile early, so the
UbuntuOne login page is displayed and the other launch produces the message.

If Firefox is already opened, then UbuntuOne just creates a new tab. If
Firefox is not open at all, it launches it without trouble.

In order for this issue to be fixed, either Firefox needs to startup
really fast (which upstream is working on, but won't be seen for a
little while yet), or UbuntuOne needs to lock the Firefox profile later
and launch Firefox right away instead of locking the profile and after a
small delay launching (which is what seems to happen, but may be wrong).

Either way, there is nothing that we can do on the Firefox side at this
point, so I'm moving this report to the ubuntuone-client package so the
UbuntuOne developers can consider whether or not there is a way to avoid
this conflict.

Thanks again for reporting this to Ubuntu, and please continue to let us
know about any other issues you encounter!
