[Bug 2078797] [NEW] Update to 24.04.01 breaks iwlwifi (Intel AX201)
Public bug reported: I updated from 22.04 LTS to 22.04.01 LTS when offered the opportunity. All management options for Wi-Fi and BT disappeared, and I couldn't use wireless access anymore. Checking dmesg quickly shown, that no firmware blog (ucode) can be loaded in the expected version. The files .ucode.zst were there, but for not good use. I had to download the file (iwlwifi-QuZ-a0-hr-b0-59.ucode) manually from https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux- firmware.git/tree/, reload it (sudo modprobe iwlwifi), and restart my OS for wireless to be back on. I wouldn't call this update process swift. The current version of linux-firmware seems to be old (20240318.git3b128b60-0ubuntu2.2). Maybe an update would prevent this problem from occurring to more users? [Bug 2078800] [NEW] Defaulting to old Kernel breaks audio after update to 22.04.01
Public bug reported: After update from 22.04 to 24.04.01 my audio stopped working. The output device is 'Dummy Output', the microphone is simply not recognised. The problem seems to be that, by default, the old OEM Kernel from 5.X series is used (linux-image-5.14.0-1051-oem). Once I load the new automatically shipped one from GRUB (linux-image-6.8.0-41-generic) the audio problems are gone. Unfortunately lenovo.archive.canonical.com, where I suppose OEM Kernels come from, seems to be behind, as I started getting errors for this repo after updating too (doesn't have the component 'sutton.simon'). [Bug 2078797] Re: Update to 24.04.01 breaks iwlwifi (Intel AX201)
Sorry, the files I attached might be a bit misleading, since I ran bugreport having fixed the issue myself. I wanted to deliver more information about my configuration, but not break the fixed state. What I saw in dmesg, corresponded to this question: https://superuser.com/questions/970508/iwlwifi-failing-with-error-code-2 so alternating 'request for firmware file X' and 'Direct firmware load for X failed with error -2' for every file in the accepted range. Hearing that v77 is loaded is a bit weird, since that dmesg load would tell that v64 is the maximum accepted one, that's why I chose v59. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2078797 Title: Update to 24.04.01 breaks iwlwifi (Intel AX201) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware/+bug/2078797/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2078797] Re: Update to 24.04.01 breaks iwlwifi (Intel AX201)
I think I understand what happened better now. As I described here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/2078800, I now use Kernel 6.8-generic, which was installed during upgrade to 24.04.01, but not used by default, that was 5.14-oem. Using the old Kernel by default meant that the available blobs might have been TOO NEW for 5.14. Then, the order of events was like that: 1. I update to 24.04.01. Wi-fi does not work. 2. I look for wi-fi centric (iwlwifi) solution. Installing v59 fixes wireless. 3. I realise that my sound does not work. 4. To fix sound, I boot into 6.8-generic ← at this point the previous fix is not needed anymore, as v77 can be loaded. I argue that using old Kernel version by default is the root cause for both of these problems. Had 6.8 been loaded from the start, I wouldn't get this error either. Now I'm not sure which party would be appropriate for report.
It seems that the package oem-sutton.simon-aelfdane-meta adds such rule to GRUB config. I guess it makes sense to report a bug against it. ``` cat /etc/default/grub.d/oem-flavour.cfg # This file is automatically generated by oem-sutton.simon-aelfdane-meta, and changes will be overriden GRUB_FLAVOUR_ORDER=oem ``` -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2078797 Title: Update to 24.04.01 breaks iwlwifi (Intel AX201) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware/+bug/2078797/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2078797] Re: Update to 24.04.01 breaks iwlwifi (Intel AX201)
I was too quick to reply. ubuntu-bug tells me this is not an official package, so I cannot report a bug against it, even though it's managed by 'Commercial Engineering ' according to APT.
