[Bug 286899] Re: Backport geany 0.15 to intrepid

2008-12-07 Thread Dietmar Winkler
@Manish
The incomplete status is because we have to wait until the Debian package is
available for 0.15 so that can be included in the Ubuntu dist. I don't think
there is much sense in making a special Ubuntu package.
Having said that, getdeb.net has already a 0.15 deb available but having it in
the standard repo would be nice anyway.

[Bug 364043] [NEW] Style sheet extension *.isy not known any more in 6.0pre32(jaunty)

2009-04-20 Thread Dietmar Winkler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ipe

I think it was the last (hardy) version 6.0pre30 when a unique file
extension for style sheets *.isy was introduced. I found this very
logical and used to save all my style sheets as *.isy (much easier to
recognise as ipe style sheets than generic xml extensions).

Now in the new Jaunty version 6.0pre32 Ipe does not know about *.isy any
more. Which means in order to load my style sheets I have to rename ALL

[Bug 364041] [NEW] Incomplete standard stylesheet in 6.0pre32 (jaunty)

2009-04-20 Thread Dietmar Winkler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ipe

The ipe 6.0pre32 version of Jaunty is missing the gray-colour
definitions. These are crucial in order to be able to edit files created
with the previous Hardy 6.0pre30 version.

To see what's missing I've attached a diff file between the standard
style sheets of pre30(hardy) and pre32(jaunty).

Mind this bug is not asking to do any merging of additional colours like
in bug #291122. It just should provide backward compatible way.

[Bug 364113] [NEW] Ipe 6.0pre32 crashes when editing a 6.0pre30 file

2009-04-20 Thread Dietmar Winkler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ipe

I just found another bug with the new 6.0pre32 version of Jaunty. I tried to
edit one of my files and noticed that Ipe6.0pre32 will crash badly when I just
click on the picture.
I get the following error message on the console:

ipe: ipegeo.cpp:488: IpeMatrix IpeMatrix::Inverse() const: Assertion `t != 0'
failed.
Aborted

I created an example file in ipe6.0pre30 with my Intrepid machine and as
you can see from the PDF this works fine. To recreate the bug simply
open the corresponding ipe file and click on the graphic.

[Bug 364113] Re: Ipe 6.0pre32 crashes when editing a 6.0pre30 file

2009-04-29 Thread Dietmar Winkler
OK I found the reason. Ipe will fail to work properly (including the
colour pallet) if the language environment is not set to "C".

A workaround is not calling Ipe directly but via a script like this:

#!/bin/bash
export LANG="C"
/usr/bin/ipe

Still it would be nice to see Ipe running in all language environments!

Stefan, one other thing I just noticed. You added xpdf in the

real package should be 'xpdf-reader'. And while at it, why not changing
the 'recommends' section to a Ubuntu maintained package like 'evince' or
'kpdf', etc., depending on the desktop? But I maybe to pedantic here.

Stefan, sorry I need to read the comments more carefully in the future.
Well I don't know a proper way to call a pdf-viewer either. Also after
having had a look at the available unbiased pdf-viewer alternatives,
xpdf is probably not all that bad. Although the evince-gtk package is
independent of Gnome and has more features than xpdf. But anyway this is
not really an issue. And xpdf being the currently the least weighted
viewer, it's probably just as well as putting this in the 'recommended'
section.

[Bug 48997] Re: argument "credentials=..." doesn't work any more in fstab

2006-08-23 Thread Dietmar Winkler
The credential file is accessible I've just repeated the mount in two
ways:

First with fstab looking like this:
//Server/Share   /mnt/Share  cifs
iocharset=utf8,user,username=dietmarw,password=password,uid=dietmarw,gid=dietmarw,auto
 0 0

This works fine.

Second with fstab looking like this:
//Server/Share /mnt/Share   cifs
iocharset=utf8,user,credentials=/home/dietmarw/.smb/myacc,uid=dietmarw,gid=dietmarw,auto
 0 0

This gives:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc# mount /mnt/ForschungMDT/
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on
//130.149.48.9/ForschungMDT, missing codepage or other error
   In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
   dmesg | tail  or so

So dmesg shows:
[18802744.064000] CIFS VFS: No username specified
[18802744.064000]  CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -22

But the credential file is setup conforming to the manual (and worked on
breezy as is) and looks like this:

username=dietmarw
password=password

This actually happend to collegue of mine in the exact same way after he
had upgraded from breezy to dapper.

[Bug 224240] Re: update of plugins fails after upgrade to hardy

2008-05-07 Thread Dietmar Winkler
Kubuntux, Have you started eclipse as root? In order to install plugins
system wide you need to do "sudo eclipse".

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: eclipse

  After the upgrade to Hardy I couldn't update or install any plugins. I
  always got the message:

  - Current configuration problems -
  Resulting configuration does not contain the platform.

  In the end I found a solution. Looking at /usr/lib/eclipse there were
  some broken links etc. So the configuration in this directory seemed to
- be broken. After deleting the whole directory /usr/local/lib and
+ be broken. After deleting the whole directory /usr/lib/eclipse and
  reinstalling the eclipse packages I could finally get access to all the
  installed plug-ins again(even the ubuntu-packaged plugins like pydev
  were not shown before).

  So I think the eclipse package needs some mechanism to either remove

[Bug 69499] Startup options cause eclipse to crash when "subclipse" is used

2006-11-02 Thread Dietmar Winkler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eclipse

When starting eclipse (3.2) with an installed subclipse addon installed
eclipse will crash.

I did some investigations and found a workaround:

Since Subclipse relies on sun-java I changed the order of java
environments in /etc/eclipse/java_home so that sun-java would be the
first choice. Unfortunately hidden in the startup script
/usr/bin/eclipse are some gcj-related arguments which probably cause
eclipse to crash when subclipse components are called.

To work around this problem I did the following:

sudo gedit /usr/bin/eclipse

now outcomment the following lines in the very end of that file:

#-vmargs -Djava.library.path=/usr/lib/jni \
#-Dgnu.gcj.precompiled.db.path=/var/lib/gcj-4.1/classmap.db \
#-Dgnu.gcj.runtime.VMClassLoader.library_control=never \
#-Dosgi.locking=none ${VMARGS}

and add this line instead :
-vmargs ${VMARGS}

Now I know this is quite a rough way of dealing with this but at least
now everything works like a charme. However if somebody can provide a
more clean way I'm more than happy to learn about it.

[Bug 461577] Re: [Karmic] Internal microphone does not record sound on a Dell Studio XPS w/ Intel 82801H HD Audio Controller

2009-11-01 Thread Dietmar Winkler
I found a comment in the changelog of alsa-utils:

alsa-utils (1.0.20-2ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * Merge from debian unstable, remaining changes:
[...]
  + Default Digital Input Source to be Digital Mic 1 so that users
with digital mic will be able to use it out of the box

Strangely enough this setting seems not to be the case any more but I
couldn't find any other mention of a revert of this change. So I wonder
why Digital Mic 1 is not set any more.

2009-11-17 Thread Dietmar Winkler
Daniel, I had to reinstall my system (for some other reason) and not I
can no longer verify this issue. So I guess at some point some package
configuration had a "hickup" and left something behind. Anyway since
nobody else confirmed this issue please fee free to simply close this as
"invalid". (btw my problem with the mic has also gone without any
workaround...strange)

[Bug 450861] Re: Microphone stopped working

2009-10-23 Thread Dietmar Winkler
I tried to nail this down further and it looks like this update caused the
problem:
pulseaudio (1:0.9.19-0ubuntu2) to 1:0.9.19-0ubuntu3

Looking at the ChangeLog I guess that either the removeal of rtkit of the
mentioned patch might be the reason:
 [ Tony Espy ]
  * debian/control: Add a Conflicts for rtkit so we force removal, and
hence get more testing coverage between now and Karmic final (LP: #452458).

  [ Daniel T Chen ]
  * debian/patches/0056-ignore-sound-class-modem.patch:
+ Apply patch from Whoopie to fix initialization of devices with
  modem subdevices (LP: #394500, #450222)

I would have liked to test this but found no means to downgrade to
(1:0.9.19-0ubuntu2) again.

[Bug 450861] Re: Microphone stopped working

2009-10-24 Thread Dietmar Winkler
Well in the meantime I found the possible reason. The preferences of
pulse audio don't let you choose a "Digital Microphone 1" such as is
installed in my machine as input device. It only gives you a choice of
two *analog* "Microphone 1" and "Microphone 2". Now getting around this
by using alsamixer to set the correct microphone woul be a preliminary
option. However this I could not test this since alsamixer can not be
started (see bug #459064).

OK I could start alsamixer after I removed the "pulseaudio" package
(which also means that ubuntu-desktop is removed). Not really a nice
solution. If a solution at all. So it looks like that pulseaudio somehow
blocks the alsamixer alltogether.

2009-10-24 Thread Dietmar Winkler
MIchal, I've linked it for you (simple go to the "also affects
dirtribution" link on the top next time). I had to actually remove
pulseaudio in order to get alsa-mixer running. At least now I could set
the digital mic and confirm that the mic itself works it's really just
the problem that it can not be selected in the sound preferences (and
neither in padevchooser).
