[Bug 335929] [NEW] Installer where are you page has some locations in the wrong place

2009-02-28 Thread Derek Kaye
Public bug reported:

In Jaunty Alpha 5, At the install screen the 'x''s for some locations
are in the wrong place.

For example, Europe/London is in the North Sea, and Dublin and the Isle
of Man are in Scotland.

Steps to reproduce:

Boot from CD and select install.
Proceed to the "Where are you?" page
Select Europe/London.
Observe wrong location.

London should be in the south-east of England, not in the North Sea.

Tested on Sun xVM VirtualBox.

It does the same for me... it didn't hang, nor did I interrupt it.

[Bug 588518] [NEW] xubuntu - password allways fails when trying to install language support

2010-06-01 Thread Derek Kaye
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: language-selector

in xubuntu, going to Applications>System>Language Support results in the
application saying that language support needs to be installed.
Next a password box is given that refuses to accept my password.

After some investigation, it appears that running "gksu gnome-language-

Is it possible that gnome-language-selector is calling gksu in su mode
rather than sudo mode?

After a quick look through the code, in
LanguageSelector/gtk/GtkLanguageSelector.py, gksu is mentioned on lines
253, 597 and 617.

It is my understanding that changing these to gksudo, or alternatively
adding the option --sudo-mode, or -S should fix this.

[Bug 588518] Re: xubuntu - password always fails when trying to install language support

2010-06-07 Thread Derek Kaye
Hi Charlie,

It appears that I also have the same as you (assuming "/aps/" was a
typo):

de...@demetria:~$ ls -l /usr/bin/gksudo
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 4 May 31 18:24 /usr/bin/gksudo -> gksu
de...@demetria:~$ cat /etc/alternatives/libgksu-gconf-defaults
/apps/gksu/sudo-mode true
de...@demetria:~$

This is an install that started from Lucid alpha 3, so the issue may
have originated there. I just found it very strange that it accepted
gksudo, but not gksu.

Is there any other config file that may cause it?

[Bug 531867] [NEW] [Lucid] Lightning doesn't work with Thunderbird 3

2010-03-04 Thread Derek Kaye
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lightning

I guess this is a similar issue to Bug #527138

Lightning is reporting as being installed in "Ubuntu software centre"
and here:

de...@beatrice:~$ apt-cache policy lightning-extension
lightning-extension:

However it doesn't show up in Thunderbird 3. My guess is that this is
because this build of lightning depends on Thunderbird 2?

Workaround: Install Lightning from Thunderbird's Tools > Add-ons menu.

[Bug 545894] [NEW] notifications appear over screensaver

2010-03-24 Thread Derek Kaye
Public bug reported:

In Xubuntu Lucid, popup notifications such as new IMs, people signing in
etc. appear over the top of the screensaver. This is possibly the same
as Bug #21172 but that is "Fix Released" and the last post is in 2005.

I'm not sure if this is a libnotify issue or a pidgin issue.

de...@beatrice:~$ lsb_release -rd

[Bug 545894] Re: notifications appear over screensaver

2010-03-24 Thread Derek Kaye
I am unable to interact with the notifications normally (other than blurring on
mouseover) - I believe this may be due to not having notification-daemon
installed.
I've just tested it, nad once the screensaver is activated I cannot move the
mouse outside of the "enter password" box. The messages I sent over msn from
one machine to the other displayed for all to see on top of the screensaver.
I've also seen (as mentioned earlier) user log in / out messages.
I've not *seen* any other messages, but can ssh in to test if it's just a
simple command / script to test to generate the popups?

[Bug 545894] Re: notifications appear over screensaver

2010-03-24 Thread Derek Kaye
I can reproduce it using this script "borrowed" and adapted from bug
#534522.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Set screensaver to come on after 1min and lock when on.
2. ssh into machine
3. run:

$ export DISPLAY=:0
$ python osd_test.py

4. observe how notification appears on top of the screensaver.

NB: Not sure if it's relevant or not, but I'm using a dual-screen set
up. The notifications appear in the usual place on screen 2.

[Bug 444732] [NEW] Thunderbird doesn't complete downloading attachments if interrupted by another download request

2009-10-06 Thread Derek Kaye
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 on Jaunty

I was downloading many (I think about 8-10) attachments from a message
in Thunderbird manually by right-clicking, save as, because the save all
button was broken (Bug #303140).

I was going through it rather quickly - right click, save, right click,
save etc, and expected a queue of message downloads to start (or perhaps
them all to come at once).

What actually happened was several partial downloads. From what I can
guess, as soon as I told it where to save the next attachment, the
previous one was interrupted, and left unfinished.

This was on an IMAPS inbox to googlemail servers.

[Bug 440545] [NEW] Shutdown doesn't complete after Karmic install

2009-10-02 Thread Derek Kaye
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

After running Karmic beta install, I get told that the system will now
reboot.

The CD ejects, but then the screen just keeps flashing - sometimes with
the desktop background image, others just the LCD backlight coming on
and off. Eventually, I get bored and turn it off manually. This
behaviour does not repeat after a normal shutdown, and everything else
appears to have been installed successfully.

This happened after selecting install Ubuntu, rather than try Ubuntu
from the boot prompt (if this makes a difference).

Attached is my syslog from the install, unfortunately, it appears not to
want to let me attach another file, so I can't attach the partman file.
