Re: [Bug 420904] Re: File-roller makes computer unresponsive

2009-08-31 Thread DeMus
Hi,

Thanks for answering upon my bug report.
I'll try to answer the questions as well as possible.

Yes, it is reproducible. It happens every time when I want to unrar a
row of joined rar files (xxx1.rar, xxx2.rar, , xxxn.rar, but also
with xxx.rar, xxx.r01, xxx.r02, ... , xxx.r0n).
The cpu load is not extremely high, 20% per core is about it, but the PC
is unresponsive as if something else is holding it back.

As I wrote it happens every time, so according to this it should be easy
to reproduce. Others, on the Ubuntu forum (Forum thread
), claim their PC's do
not do it so I wonder if it is my hardware which is causing it. Maybe in
combination with the software, I don't know.
On September 26, 2008 I also started a thread on the Ubuntu forums, a
link is found here .
There you find others as well with the same problem.

As I wrote in the initial report I had the same problems in Hardy 8.04.
That was probably a different version of the File-roller. What is the
same is the PC itself.

Thanks again for looking into it. I sure hope you find a solution, for
me and for all the others having the same problems.

Met vriendelijke groeten,

With kind regards,

Mit freundlichen GrĂ¼ssen,

Re: [Bug 420904] Re: File-roller makes computer unresponsive

2009-11-10 Thread DeMus
Hi Pedro,

The answer to your question is yes and no. I don't see any changes in
Karmic with respect to Jaunty, the speed is (about) the same. What I did
notice is this:
It is not the processor which determines the speed with which
File-roller operates, it is the harddisk. The data throughput of the
disk reaches the disks maximum. More data can not be handled at the same
time.

I now have Jaunty installed on 2 disks in a RAID 0 configuration which
means that each disk reads and writes half of the amount of data being
processed. Now File-roller is faster and also the computer is more
responsive to other processes. File-roller does not reach the maximum
data-throughput of the two disks being mounted in parallel.

I don't use Karmic anymore since I have some other problems with it. I
know I should report them and I will do that. Just give me time.

If something can be done to improve the speed even more it would be very
welcome, on the other hand it has improved already by putting the disks
in RAID 0.

Kind regards,
Jan Mussche

[Bug 420904] [NEW] File-roller makes computer unresponsive

2009-08-28 Thread DeMus
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope 9.04, 64-bits, (had same problem with Hardy Heron 8.04
64-bits)
Kernel 2.6.30-020630-generic,
File-roller 2.26-1
Processor quad core Q6600 @ 3GHz, Ram 4GB

When using File-roller to extract a sequence of rar files, the processor is
used max 20% per core, total used ram is 1.3GHz.
Process is slow (only 20% cpu load per core) but computer is unresponsive to
other programs running.
Screens are greyed-out, mouse does not move smoothly, typed characters on
keyboard don't show up on screen.
It seems the program is blocking something in the computer so other programs
don't work anymore, even though the cpu can do much more.

[Bug 883459]

2019-04-25 Thread DeMus
I can confirm this bug with both an IMAP and a POP account. Mails are sometimes
(not always, filters don't always work well) transferred from the inbox to the
correct folder and a little bit later the mails are also back in the inbox.
This can go on forever.
When I delete them from the inbox it is over and they don't appear anymore.

[Bug 192056] Re: [Upstream] [hardy] Cannot Open password-encrypted MS Office 2003 files

2013-09-15 Thread DeMus
Also I can not open a password encrypted pps. I am using 4.0.3.3. I
would expect, if I may be so bold, that if this error exists from the
early days of Libreoffice that somebody would have looked at it and made
it possible. Unfortunately not.

[Bug 762203] Re: Computer is not turned off at shutdown

Is something done about this? What is the current status? I thought when
something was wrong in Linux it would be fixed very fast, but I seem to
be wrong here.

[Bug 716439] Re: [Upstream] Impress is not playing sounds in pps files

2013-06-09 Thread DeMus
Kubuntu 13.04
LibreOffice 4.0.2.2
Kernel 3.8.0-23-generic
I have used various versions of LibreOffice and Ubuntu's (incl. LinuxMint) and
I have never had sound when playing a pps file.

Just made a presentation myself, added music but it does not play.

[Bug 909022] Re: Various akonadi processes use 100% CPU and 200% RAM at every KDE session startup

2013-05-25 Thread DeMus
Yesterday I installed Kubuntu 13.04 and got the same problems as other users in
this thread. First I thought it was caused by the relatively new Kubuntu
version so I switched back to 12.04 LTS. This did not help, I got the same
problem:
CPU at 100% in 1-2 minutes
4GB ram filled up, after which swap memory (also 4G) was filled entirely.

I then (using a laptop) found a way to not start akonadi and now my
system is back to normal.

It is strange since I did use 12.04 before and then this did not happen.
Maybe since the latest KDE updates this was introduced.

[Bug 762203] Re: Computer is not turned off at shutdown

2011-09-11 Thread DeMus
I have the same problem with a Samsung R730 laptop. Sometimes it works well,
other times it doesn't.
I can't find a pattern though, just boot and shut down immediately sometimes
causes the effect already of not switching of the power. The latest info in the
syslog file, when the laptop did not shutdown is this:

Sep 11 16:31:45 R-730-Linux nmbd[2027]: [2011/09/11 16:31:45.421651, 0]
nmbd/nmbd.c:71(terminate)
Sep 11 16:31:45 R-730-Linux nmbd[2027]: Got SIGTERM: going down...
Sep 11 16:31:45 R-730-Linux kernel: Kernel logging (proc) stopped.
Sep 11 16:31:45 R-730-Linux rsyslogd: [origin software="rsyslogd"
swVersion="4.6.4" x-pid="885" x-info="http://www.rsyslog.com";] exiting on
signal 15.

Hope this helps.

[Bug 285401] Re: Enhancment request, compact headers on evolution message preview pane

2011-10-26 Thread DeMus
It's the same problem Thunderbird has: information is shown in the header which
does not bring anything new, at least that's my opinion.
Just look at the text in the header. What does it say extra that is not already
in the list of e-mails you have just above, or next to it? From - look in field
from in e-mail list
To - obviously me, but could be more people, look in field To in e-mail list
Subject - see Subject in e-mail list
Date - same here.

So, why not completely forget about the header and give more space for either
the e-mail list or the contents of the opened message? Especially on the new
wide-screen monitors this would be very handy.
Keep the window boundary to separate mail list from preview window and that's
it. Erase the big grey area.

[Bug 762203] Re: Computer is not turned off at shutdown

2011-09-17 Thread DeMus
I have these same problems: first in LinuxMint 11 Katya, then I installed LMDE
(LinuxMint Debian based) in the latest version and now I installed Ubuntu 11.04
I also have it. I know Katya is the same as 11.04 but LMDE is not Ubuntu based
so I think the problem is from somewhere else. I use kernel "2.6.38-8-generic".
Please fix this since fast. Thank you.
