[Bug 214234] Re: Improvements for LIDIL printers urgently needed
This sounds like a feature request not a bug. Correct? All the print modes for single pen or two pen printing are available in the ppd file for LIDIL printers. Depending on the printer and the installed pens the default print mode may not be correct, but the user can make the correct selection manually when ppd options are presented. Adding a "Black Cartridge Installed" option to the ppd file and then constraining the print modes based the installed option is a good idea. In the near future we plan on supporting the native CUPS ppd files so we will consider this feature request for LIDIL printers then. -dave -- Improvements for LIDIL printers urgently needed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/214234 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 162016] Re: cups printjobs unload /dev/usblp0
Sorry, HPLIP uses libusb/usbfs instead of usblp. Libusb uses the "/dev/bus/usb/xxx/xxx" device node instead of the "/dev/usblp0" device node. Since usblp and libusb cannot claim the the same usb device, any HPLIP device I/O usage (ie: scanning, printing or faxing) will remove usblp from the "/dev/usblp0" device node. If you are using CUPS this means in general you should always use the HPLIP's "hp" backend (ie: "hp:/usb/...") instead of the standard CUPS "usb" backend (ie: "usb://..."). The "hp" backend will always use the libusb device node. If you try to use the "usb" backend the "/dev/usblp0" device node may not be available. Currently hal_lpadmin calls hp-info and hp-probe which are io intensive and will interfere with hp-firmware download for the LJ1018 and LJ1020. Because of this interference HAL will not see these printers at plug-in- play time and disable the print queue. The hp-info and hp-probe calls in hal_lpadmin should be replaced with the hp-makeuri call. The udev sysfile information will provide the usb "bus" and "device" information necessary for the "hp-makeuri bbb:ddd" command. Hp-makeuri will return a valid HPLIP uri if the usb device is supported by HPLIP. Hp-makeuri is a light weight call that has very little io overhead. The hp-makeuri command will not interfere with the hp-firmware download. -dave -- cups printjobs unload /dev/usblp0 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/162016 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 181242] Re: [Hardy]HP printer is not detected properly by HPLIP
Ok I looked at a Hardy system. You need to update your version of 55-hpmud.rules file with the latest the 55-hpmud.rules in the hplip 2.7.12 tar ball. I know Ubuntu uses a modified hpmud.rules file which is ok, but your copy is out-of-date. I have made some udev changes since the "usb_device" name has changed in the latest kernel. [Bug 59409] Re: Fax PPD not installed by default
Till, hp-setup should be using the "ppd" key value pair in hplip.conf to determine were the HP-Fax-hplip.ppd directory is. The "ppd" key value is set by the hplip configure time option "--with-hpppddir". The "--with-hpppdir" is where the Fax-hplip.ppd file is installed at "make install" time. If hp-setup is searching at /usr/lib/hplip/fax/HP-Fax-hplip.ppd, but your package actually installed at /usr/share/ppd/hpijs/HP/HP-Fax- hplip.ppd.gz then I believe the hplip.conf was set incorrectly. [Bug 195782] Re: Users not automatically added to "scanner" group: No scanning functions of HP multi-function in Hardy
You do not need explicit usb-pids for HP printer products. You can determine if the udev event is a HP printer product by performing a wild-card compare on the idProduct. See 55-hpmud.rules file.
