[Bug 225038] Re: From the icon firefox will not start. From command like after 15 minutes I get errors

2008-11-20 Thread David Sharnoff
I also have this problem. Or pretty close. It never starts.
I'm running ubuntu 8.04 but with an older kernel (2.6.15-27) that's compatible
with VMware workstation 5.
I've removed my .mozilla folder and un-installed everything firefox related.

Running under strace, it stops with:

setsockopt(49, SOL_SOCKET, SO_REUSEADDR, [1], 4) = 0
connect(49, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path="/tmp/.esd-1000/socket"}, 23

I'm guessing there is something sound-related that's killing it.

[Bug 225038] Re: From the icon firefox will not start. From command like after 15 minutes I get errors

2009-03-18 Thread David Sharnoff
This bug is still present in firefox 3.0.7 on ubuntu 8.04.

It is a problem with sound. If sound is disabled, working properly, or
not esd then firefox works. If sound is broken and esd, then it hangs.

** Changed in: firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu)

[Bug 109451] mysql-server 4.1.15 is obsolete

2007-04-23 Thread David Sharnoff
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mysql-server

I ran into a problem with mysql-server. The mysql folks said my
version was too old and buggy and that I should upgrade. When something is
no longer supported, it's a good indication it should be upgraded...

See: http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=28029 for the first comment
that isn't me...

I'm using ubutnu 6.06.Even mostly-frozen OSes need upgrades
every now and then.

2009-12-09 Thread David Sharnoff
One more issue... when you install openntpd (replacing ntpd) it leaves
behind a /etc/init.d/ntpd file. That file is still run and it starts
the openntpd server but doesn't do so correctly.

[Bug 311983] Re: Window title, DECRQSS security

2009-12-11 Thread David Sharnoff
xterm can't change it's title any more. Did this fixing this "bug"
break this important feature? The screen program is one example of an
application where changing the title critical.

Title changes still work with gnome. Only broken with kde. Karmic.

[Bug 495733] [NEW] xterm title won't change with kde (xttitle, xtermset, xtermcontrol all broken)

2009-12-11 Thread David Sharnoff
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xterm

Was this broken by bug #311983?

Running ubuntu 9.10, Karmic, xterm titles won't change with the normal
escape sequences under KDE. They will change under gnome.

The utility programs to manipulate the title (xttitle, xtermset,
xtermcontrol) are all broken.

Setting titles is important. Ask anyone who uses screen a lot.
