[Bug 378833] Re: package clamav-freshclam failed to install/upgrade during 9.04 upgrade
OK I installed an old version of clamav and its dependencies and forced the versions in synaptic, so I could reinstall dansguardian. I will undo that and do the set -x in the init script and see what it does when I have the time and inclination, and post the results back here. -- package clamav-freshclam failed to install/upgrade during 9.04 upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/378833 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Scott, Thanks for the quick response. It never used to do this, only since I did the version upgrade to ubuntu 9.04 yesterday. Re: [Bug 378833] Re: package clamav-freshclam failed to install/upgrade during 9.04 upgrade
Furthermore I can't install dansguardian any longer, even though I have virusscan=off, because of the dependency it has on clamav, and in turn clamav-freshclam which seems to be causnig the trouble. I also tried mounting everything controlled by pam_mount before installing, it didn't help. Scott Kitterman wrote: > This isn't a clamav bug. I have an identical issue as the op, although I am running Kubuntu 8.04. My setup is quite similar to the op's - Sempron 3200+ on an Asus K7N2 mobo with NVidea graphics. Since the kernel update to 2.6.24-22-generic in my case, I either have to plug USB devices into the hub before booting, or else "sudo lsusb" to get them automounted. The printer is plugged into the hub, and I use it for thumbdrives etc. Here's the output from lsusb with printer switched on and a thumbdrive plugged in (and mounted, after I did lsusb): Bus 007 Device 001: ID : Bus 006 Device 001: ID : Bus 005 Device 001: ID : Bus 004 Device 005: ID 04a9:10a2 Canon, Inc. Towards the end of dmesg can be seen where I plugged in the thumbdrive and did lsusb. Then I switched on the printer and did lsusb again. [Bug 62485] Re: [SPARC] - Regression - Niagara does not reboot properly
Actually, this is a problem in the e1000 driver. It puts the chip into a power-management state then accesses it's registers in a way that it shouldn't, which results in a timeout. I've known about this bug since the 2.6.17 kernel was released but never had time to look into it and fix properly. The hypervisor shouldn't abort like that, but the true cause is the e1000 driver. So we don't need an "upgrade your OBP" in the release for this issue since we can fix the failure anyways in the e1000 code. -- [SPARC] - Regression - Niagara does not reboot properly https://launchpad.net/bugs/62485 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 121739] Re: terminal wont accept typed input when prompting for password
Micah Cowen said: 'Are you just su-ing to root? If so, did you set up a password for root? Since sudo is the recommended method for obtaining root privileges, Ubuntu installations do not set up a root password by default. This is because sudo prompts for the calling user's password, rather than the user being su'd to (and then checks that the calling user has appropriate access, as defined by /etc/sudoers). The su command, on the other hand, asks for the destination user's password, so if you have not set a password for root (via "sudo passwd root", for example), a su to root would be guaranteed to fail.' For new users like me I found out that this means that you type sudo passwd root Press enter It will then ask you for your password - you can enter it It then asks for a new Unix password. Sorry guys - us beginners need a very simple walk through! - we just don't have the knowledge base assumed in some of the answers! Anyway, it works for me now - thanks Micah! -- terminal wont accept typed input when prompting for password https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/121739 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It helps if you can consolidate the information obtained in your bug tracking here in the email so that people on this list can get an idea of what the problem scope might be without having to go to your special bug tracking site. This is really not about us being snobs about this mailing list, it's about you wanting to get a result. And you'll get a better result faster if you post the details here on the lsit because most developers are not going to go to your bug tracking site to read the bug comments. Also, this isn't a functional regression, it is just that we are generating warnings that we didn't before. It doesn't mean that Eric's patch is wrong, it could just be that his new check is triggering for a bug that has always been there. Scanning the bug myself it seems that the critical required component is IPSEC, and IPSEC has it's own way of doing segmentation offload. [Bug 1381179] [NEW] after upgrade to 14.04, user privileges needing resetting
Public bug reported: Hi, I recently upgraded from 12.04 LTS to 14.04 LTS and it went smoothly with no errors reported. A couple of post-install problems were resolved via the release notes but there was one other issue which the release notes did not cover. I had no sound, was unable to mount usb pen drives, and various other issues which seemed possibly related to user privileges. I got a clue from a forum thread and all was fixed by issuing the command "sudo pam-auth-update --force".
