I can reproduce it easily with Ubuntu 13.04 (raring) with kernel 3.8.0-29-generic. To make clarify what happens: There are 4 ways to get the current speaker mute status: 1. The mute led on the physical mute button. 2. The /proc/acpi/ibm/volume file 3. The icon (I'm currently using gnome-shell) 4. The PulseAudio Volume Control To mute/unmute there are 3 methods: a. The hardware mute button for the speaker. b. The slider for the volume icon in gnome-shell c. PulseAudio Volume Control If I use method a then all four statuses remain in sync. This fails if a captive portal is used for WLAN authentication (Hotels, Airports, etc) This could have a security impact as it downloads information without verifying the source. A specially crafted config file or limitless (/dev/null, /dev/random) file could have an impact. 1. Use TLS and verify certificates 2. Use GPG to sign the file and verify on the client. 3. Set disk image type to "Video DVD image" and choose "Native format" and "4:3" 6. The brasero_vob_error_on_pad_linking in plugins/transcode/burn-vob.c is only called by brasero_vob_new_decoded_pad_cb. For me it actually seems to work. I was not pushing the button long enough. With kernel 3.0.0-14-generic on oneiric with a T410s this is the output from xev when I press the micmute button. There is no event when I release the key. Pressing the micmute button emits a KeyPress and a KeyRelease event.
