[Bug 339911] Re: Jaunty: Login sound is crackly
I'm having the same problem. After doing some research, I've learned the snd_intel8x0 driver is really broken in the kernel that shipped with Jaunty, 2.6.28. It's since been fixed in newer kernels. I tried upgrading to a newer kernel, and it does fix this issue. Unfortunately the prepackaged kernel debs I've found don't include the driver for my wifi that the Ubuntu kernel does, so I'm stuck (unless I get around to compiling my own). To be clear, this has nothing to do with pulseaudio. If you kill pulseaudio, and change your sound preferences to purely ALSA, you will still have terrible problems. It's the intel8x0 driver at fault, and there's not much that can be done to get around it. -- Jaunty: Login sound is crackly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/339911 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 220857] Re: linuxtv.org mercurial repository wont build against hardy kernel due to "disagrees about version of symbol videobuf_*
Any news on this? I know this is marked Won't Fix, but here we are months later and this issue is still a problem, and doesn't seem to be going anywhere. As Yashka and Alexey mention, there currently is no fix. You can download the lum headers, but what do you do with them? The lum header package in Ubuntu is not the complete headers, it's just the lum-specific parts of the headers. It's not clear how to get them mixed with the standard headers. Deleting cx88_alsa.ko doesn't help, as you somehow have to build it. I've spent a couple days working on this issue, and I've completely scoured the net for information on this bug. I've found plenty of people with this problem. Unfortunately, no one has the solution. The worst part is, I've learned enough to know that this problem is specific to lum (linux ubuntu modules) and is therefor a Ubuntu-only issue. We can't go upstream for a fix. By marking this low priority and Won't Fix, it leaves those of us with the issue with no alternatives (other than to switch to another distribution, which, really, I don't want to do). I'm not really even asking for a fix to this particular problem - I'm asking for a fix to compiling things against the lum headers. -- linuxtv.org mercurial repository wont build against hardy kernel due to "disagrees about version of symbol videobuf_* https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/220857 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Please do. I'm sitting here trying to fix an issue keeping me from booting my Ubuntu box. The Ubuntu Live-CD should be the answer, but without LVM support, I'm stuck. [Bug 85570] Re: Evolution doesn't apply filters to IMAP account automatically
Just to contribute, I also experience this bug. I have a number of filters, using various filter criteria. None of them are run on my IMAP accounts. Let me add, this has never worked on Ubuntu. I switched to Ubuntu from Gentoo under Warty. I've upgraded to every release, and it never worked on any of them, which continues to this day under Edgy. [Bug 285417] Re: [intrepid] gtk2-engines-ubuntulooks can't be installed
This still exists in Karmic. I really don't understand this. If there's a PPA, then there's a bzr fork with the fixed code to resolve this issue. Everyone says "file bugs". But here's an example: a bug's been filed, the code has been written, and is in bzr which means it can be easily patched upstream in a matter of minutes. Yet it isn't. With DVCS (bzr), launchpad, etc, this community has extremely efficient tools, yet we don't seem to be operating nearly as efficiently as we should. This simple-to-fix bug was filed 1 year and nearly 3 releases ago. Is there something we in the community can do to speed up simple fixes like this that clearly aren't getting attention? The ppa doesn't have Karmic packages for ubuntulooks, so the ppa cannot be used as a solution unless it is updated. -- [intrepid] gtk2-engines-ubuntulooks can't be installed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/285417 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Ok, thanks for the details. Odd that this doesn't happen in gnome-shell running on xorg. I was recreating the same panel layout I've been using in gnome for years, with the same display layout. [Bug 1820088] Re: GIMP doesn't start in disco dev
I also have this issue after an upgrade from 18.10. I don't see how this is NOT a bug. Simply working on a clean install doesn't make this a non-issue. Ubuntu is still expected to cleanly upgrade. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Gimp and the Gimp libraries. It doesn't fix the issue. The only good news I have is that the Snap Store version does work.
