[Bug 379810] [NEW] echo corrupts bash charset

2009-05-23 Thread Damian Johnson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Whenever the contents of the attached, randomly generated Tor authentication
cookie are echoed to the terminal the character set changes to incomprehensible
figures. This happens both as a result of cat and Python printing the file's
contents. Problem persists until terminal window is restarted. Below is a
sample of the terminal output:

I realize the distribution is a little behind but the bug should be
incredibly easy to try to reproduce. Hope this helps! -Damian

Yes, it's still an issue, and no I can't upgrade my distribution (took long
enough to get things up and running once!). Sorry... -Damian

[Bug 257182] Re: workspace columns lost without switcher

2008-10-17 Thread Damian Johnson
How is this not a bug? If the user has the panel then workspace
dimensions work properly. However, if it's removed then all workspaces
are 'flattened' (ie, Ubuntu forgets the rows attribute). My issue isn't
that it's reverted when re-adding the component (though that's not good)
but that it needs the panel around (and visible) to get Gnome to
remember that there's multiple rows. In other words preference data is
being contained in a UI component which is bad design. I'm not 'creating
a new object' when it's reverted to a 1x4 workspace via restarting.

[Bug 289664] [NEW] Persistent white bar in upper left

2008-10-26 Thread Damian Johnson
Public bug reported:

There's a 1x17 white bar of pixels that shows up in the upper left of
the screen. They're usually hidden (due to the top menu bar) but they're
visible when a program spans the whole screen (ex. full screen terminals
or video - see attached screenshot). This sliver of pixels is
unresponsive, by which I mean that clicking them doesn't do anything,
even if the application usually displays a right-click context menu.

This problem manifests on a couple of my systems:
Ubuntu Hardy (8.04) on a laptop (HP Pavilion dv5163cl)
Ubuntu Feisty (7.04) on a PC (Dell Dimension 9200)

I've noticed that this occurs when I:
a. Run VLC (music or video, it always occurs)
b. Inconsistently occurs when using Firefox
then it disappears when I close those applications. After a bit of
investigating I stumbled on a forum post suggesting that this might either
concern Adobe Flash or UIM (both of which I have):
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-689310-highlight-openbox.html?sid=131dee068fb5ecfdbda853430ae1dbce

However, the last post was in 2004 and I'm not spotting a bug report so
here it is! My apologies if I should be sending this to someone
upstream. This is a low priority issue, but it's kinda annoying when
watching movies so please let me know if I can be of any help in solving
it. Cheers! -Damian

[Bug 257182] [NEW] workspace columns lost without switcher

2008-08-11 Thread Damian Johnson
Public bug reported:

The number of workspace columns is lost (reverted to one) if the "Workspace
Switcher" is removed from the panel. Here's the steps to reproduce:
1. Add workspace switcher to panel (right click on pane > "Add to panel..." >
Workspace Switcher)
2. Raise the number of rows two (right click Workspace Switcher > Preferences >
Change "Show all workspaces in: X rows" to 2)
3. Remove Workspace Switcher (right click Workspace Switcher > "Remove From
Panel")
4. At this point you'll still have 2x2 workspaces. However, if you either
re-add the Workspace Switcher OR restart Ubuntu, it'll be reverted to a single
row (1x4 workspaces).

Bug is with Hardy Heron (Ubuntu 8.04.1) and desktop effects are turned
off. -Damian

Re: [Bug 289664] Re: Persistent white bar in upper left

2009-02-28 Thread Damian Johnson
Sorry, haven't had time to check a live boot but as mentioned this seems to
be an application issue. It doesn't manifest on boot and it always occurs
under the following conditions:
- Running VLC
- Running IcePodder
- Browsing to certain sites (like GMail) in Firefox, but not for others

My guess would be an issue with a common ui library. It's probably not GTK
(the problem doesn't appear for Gnome games for instance) but I'm suspecting
the wxPython library (it's used in both VLC and IcePodder, and possibly
Firefox plugins). Do you have any idea how to test this? -Damian

[Bug 231923] Re: Can't copy + paste files between windows (quite often)

2008-08-31 Thread Damian Johnson
+1, though I'm finding pasting between Thunar windows via the shortcut always
fails. In other words to reproduce simply:
- open two Thunar windows
- select a file and copy (ctrl+c)
- in the other window try to paste - the shortcut (ctrl+v) doesn't work but
doing it via the menu (Edit > Paste) does

[Bug 718393] [NEW] sync of tor-arm 1.4.0.1-2 from Debian sid unstable

2011-02-13 Thread Damian Johnson
Public bug reported:

Hi, a package I maintain (tor-arm) was just accepted into Debian sid unstable:
http://packages.debian.org/sid/tor-arm

I'd like to request a sync so it'll be available in the natty repos (I'm
planning to follow up with a backport request later). There aren't any
Ubuntu specific changes needed for the package. Thanks! -Damian
