[Bug 146515] Re: fglrx - gutsy - ati: Black Screen with ATI RV535 [Radeon X1650 Series] [1002:71c7]
Thanks, good constructive advice and thorough walkthrough, which I followed perfectly - but still 'desktop effects could not be enabled'. I followed pts [1-6], hurried to enable desktop effects after reboot, upon which the Download and Install dialog re-appears, runs and the notorious popup says 'desktop effects could not be enabled'. [Bug 146515] Re: fglrx - gutsy - ati: Black Screen with ATI RV535 [Radeon X1650 Series] [1002:71c7]
Hi again, well - I have hoped and prayed that Intrepid would bring a solution to this bug but alas: the driver activation just fails a bit more graceful - but still it fails. During reboot after upgrade, an error msg appeared, stating 'Unsure what to do' regarding multible occurrences of flgrx [something]. But X started up nonetheless and everything appeared to work as before the upgrade, i.e. ATI driver doesn't work. Then the 'Hardware Drivers' icon appeared and I go there to activate - and hit the designated Activate button, which launches a 'Download and Install' dialog box...which hangs and causes an application crash. I reboot and this time no error on boot - and I do the Activate Hardware Drivers thing... which apparently works: it downloads the driver and I'm all excitement. I turn on the visual effects under appearence and behold: It does not turn white on me, leaving me blindfolded - but it turns back to 'No visual effects'. Only thing changed afaik: Graceful fail! I attach my Xorg.0.log. ** Attachment added: "Xorg_0_log.bak" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/19255406/Xorg_0_log.bak ** Also affects: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- fglrx - gutsy - ati: Black Screen with ATI RV535 [Radeon X1650 Series] [1002:71c7] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/146515 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 398045] [NEW] daap share fails in Rhythmbox
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mt-daapd I'm running a FreeNAS 0.7RC1 Sardaukar server at home. Just started with the iTunes/DAAP service on this box, I'm annoyed that Rhythmbox sees the daap share alright but no files get listed. It works fine in iTunes on Win and Mac. Currently, I've tested Rhythmbox 0.12.0-0ubuntu4 using Jaunty and 0.11.6-1 on 'Debian 5 for Asus Eee' on my eee900; it fails for both, even thought all machines reside on the same subnet. So: It is not strictly a Ubuntu problem - what is it then? I did see the other bugs regarding daap but then again I didn't think they match this particularly. Therefore I posted this as a new bug. [Bug 407959] [NEW] Probe for Intel 82852/82855 gfx card fails - introduced in Jaunty?
Public bug reported: I've tested all versions of Ubuntu since Warty on my aging Acer TravelMate 291 XC and never before Jaunty did I get this problem: The Intel 82852/82855 gfx card is not recognized and xorg falls back to 'vesa'. I can see that the gfx is working; the progress bar during boot shows correct maximum resolution (1024x768). But entering the login screen and from there on, we're in 800x600. Hi again, I tried the 9.10 Live-CD but didn't install. Resolution is OK and System>Preferences>Display shows everything as normal: monitor is Laptop at 1024x768 (4:3) 60hz. [Bug 146515] Re: fglrx - gutsy - ati: Black Screen with ATI RV535 [Radeon X1650 Series] [1002:71c7]
Thanks Paganini. That was good constructive advice, only the card is 512 Mb and max setting in my BIOS is 256mb. Anyway, it did enhance the overall performance a bit but unfortunately it didn't solve my main problem - it only puzzled me further! After updating from 7.10 to 8.04, in my GRUB boot menu, I have two entries for Ubuntu 8.04: kernel 2.6.22-14-generic and 2.6.22-16-generic. And of those two, I'm only able to boot normally, sort of, into 2.6.22-14-generic and I can even enable the restricted ATI driver and reboot into this same kernel, now without any black screen - but it seems like the card isn't doing much good. When I go for 'Appearance' to turn 'Extra' on under Visual Effects, the screen turns all white! Fortunately, I'm able to guess what to do to go back to the None setting. That's correct - enabling the restricted driver (aka 'fglrx') now works with kernel 2.6.22-14 without the screen going black. On enabling Desktop Effects, the screen goes white instantly. [Bug 433699] [NEW] Failed to set gfx for Geode on Jaunty (fresh install on Fit-PC 1)
Public bug reported: This is related to my previous enthusiasm mentioned in bug 214119, in which I found a workaround to make gfx (AMD Geode) for the Fit-PC 1 (fit-pc.com) work on Hardy. This does not work with fresh install on Jaunty, which I performed twice just the other day on the exact same unit as I did Hardy. Boot halts, grey prompt saying ' (EE)Geode(0): GPIO pins are in serial mode. Assuming no DDC ' Next grey prompt offers to 'Run Ubuntu in low graphics mode for one session only' + a 'Review logs' and 'Edit configuration'. I go with the first option: 'It appears that the screen number (x.x) is already in use' I can then get a 800x600 res. Someone know a fix?
