As a data point, I also have the "Macintosh mouse button emulation" recognised. Does kernel 2.6.30-8 still use HAL? I have the same issue; hp mini311-1000. The OS (Ubuntu 10.04.1, latest kernel patches as of 2010.08.01) thinks my touchpad is a PS/2 mouse. By the bye, it seems as though the OS never loaded the Synaptics drivers at all. No indication that they're present. r...@tiger:/home/ckr# cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep -i synaptics r...@tiger:/home/ckr# As can be seen. On the GUI, there is no "touchpad tab" available. No touchpad utilities will start or load because the drivers are not present.
