[Bug 217789] Re: Realtek ALC888 low sound
I have an HP Pavilion with the ECS MCP61PM-HM board (HP/Compaq name: Nettle3-GL8E) I tried adding "options snd-hda-intel model=3stack-hp" to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base This made the unknown HDA error in dmesg go away, and the volume controls which were previously set to 100% across the board were reset to somewhere in the 60% region. When I crank them back up to 100%, I believe it may have increased the volume somewhat from where it was previously, but its still nowhere near the volume you would expect (and that I was able to get on the PC I just replaced.) For the record, these are powered (by 110v) speakers. I experimented with "options snd-hda-intel model=6-stack-dig" since this system does have 6 jacks on the back, 2 in the front (but no unused digital out that I can see). The dmesg error is still gone, but the volume seems identical. One side effect though, is that the volume slider in xmms no longer actually adjusts the volume. For what its worth, this is not limited to Ubuntu - the same behavior occurs in Fedora Core 10, so I'm thinking that this is related to Alsa perhaps as your post would suggest. I will experiment with some of the others and see if I do any better. Thanks a ton for the pointers!!! [Bug 217789] Re: Realtek ALC888 low sound
After intense amounts of experimentation (and googling) I found a post which suggested that this was related to pulseaudio (and that their removal of it fixed a similar problem.) Since half my system depends on pulseaudio, its not easily removable but I see that others simply killed it and removed the reference to it from /etc/asound.conf Turns out I didn't do either, but rather just used "alsamixer -c 0" and two of the sliders were set real low (despite the Pulseaudio volume control being maxed on every channel. I cranked those up, and all of a sudden my speakers have life :) Yes, I'm a bit red-faced, but maybe this will help somebody else with a simple fix. I don't remember seeing those channels in the console-based alsamixer before, so its possible that Peter's fix enabled me to see those? [Bug 372268] Re: KPackageKit update caused immediate power down
I suspect that in order to reproduce this bug I'd have to revert not only my system's configuration back before I encountered the problem but also any repositories that it was connecting to. Particularly, kpackage kit back to the one I was using on my computer and whichever version I was trying to install back up to the repositories. Since the power cut I don't know how reliable the end of the log file is. I'm guessing it had a lot more trouble trying to install kpackagekit that simply didn't get written out before the power cut. Prehaps it was this deadlock that caused it? If you know a way to artificially recreate such a situation then you may be able to find out if that was what caused it. -- KPackageKit update caused immediate power down https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/372268 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kpackagekit in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

I initially thought it was crashing but realized after filing the bug report that it was having problems loading. By trying to run the application from the command line per your instruction I discovered that the gnome applets package was no longer installed. I tried to apt-get install it but it failed due to a dependency problem. After updating the system with the latest packages today I was able install the gnome- applets package. [Bug 1736975] [NEW] netplan does not bring up anonymous bridge on boot
Public bug reported: Configuring "/etc/netplan/01-netcfg.yaml" with an anonymous bridge seems to require running "ip link set dev br0 up" to bring the bridge up after boot. [Bug 1223594] [NEW] Audio CD Issues in Kubuntu-Desktop
Public bug reported: It seems that many Kubuntu-Desktop programs have problems with Audio CDs, especially K3b. Audio CDs in Ubuntu-Desktop programs seem to work perfectally until a Kubuntu-Desktop program is run, especially K3b. I should note that I'm using an external optical drive: RDED-12001. If I open K3b or change folders in Dolphin too fast then the drive stops responding. I can't even eject. This doesn't seem to be an issue with "Files" or Rhythmbox unless KDE already has the drive locked up. I seem to be able to get some responsiveness with a replug but I don't think the drive itself is the issue. I'm also using a custom kernel 3.10.10 to get audio working over HDMI on Haswell. I think I complied from this commit: https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux- stable.git/commit/?id=8bf3379a74bc9132751bfa685bad2da318fd59d7. I just tested this out in the latest stock kernel 3.8.0-30-generic and it's still an issue. [Bug 1383184] Re: Atheros Qualcomm Killer N1525 Wireless-AC [168c:003e] is not supported
Adam Lee - you are a legend mate! Used the 1.1 patch from 244. Had to use a fresh install of Ubuntu 15.04 with the 3.19.0-28 kernel. My 14.04 installation just would not work, no matter which kernel I tried. Machine is an Alienware-15 laptop. Last up is fixing the sound.
