[Bug 574883] [NEW] Grub doesn't install to partition boot record (PBR)

2010-05-03 Thread Christof Löwe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub2

What i wanted to do is to install grub into the PBR to be able to chainload it
from the grub menu from the grub in the master boot record.
But grub is not installed into PBR, nor by the alternate cd''s installer nor by
running the grub-install command with --force-Option from from the runnning
system or from the live system. It says bloklists are not recommended, but
"installation finished, no error reported". But theres is no bootable Grub
then. Choosing the chainload entry in the MBR's Grub shows "Invalid signature".

[Bug 512702] Re: process ksoftirqd consuming 100% of CPU after booting Kubuntu

2010-02-19 Thread Christof Löwe
Maybe, maybe not. Don't know.
The problem is still there and unchanged is the strange thing, that i have this
only with Kubuntu 10.04.
Not with Kubuntu 9.10, not with ubuntu 9.10, not with Ubuntu 10.04.

[Bug 503545] [NEW] network manager slowing down internet connection (lucid)

2010-01-05 Thread Christof Löwe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

I experienced network-manager slowing down my internet connection. I
connect over ethernet cable to a router as gateway with dhcp. It affects
the "looking up for"-period in firefox as well as the page reproduction.
What gives me the idea that it could be a problem with network-manager
is the fact that after i removed it and configured the connection with
static ip in /etc/network/interfaces and the router's ip in
/etc/resolv.conf the connection is working with normal and satisfying
speed.

[Bug 512702] [NEW] process ksoftirqd consuming 100% of CPU after booting Kubuntu

2010-01-26 Thread Christof Löwe
Public bug reported:

Kubuntu 10.04 Alpha2 up to date 2010/01/26, Linux ragnar 2.6.32-11
-generic-pae #15-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jan 19 18:16:50 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux.
Ubuntu 2.6.32-11.15-generic-pae.

Evertime i boot i have a process ksoftirqd/0 or ksoftirqd/1 consuming
100% of CPU. It disappears after a few Minutes. - If i connect my DVB-T
-USB-Box (Terratec Cinergy T2) to the computer i have the same issue and
then there is no help but rebooting to get rid of this process. But the
booting issue comes whether the Box is connected or not. - On another
installation of Ubuntu (with GNOME) on the same system, same Kernel
2.6.32-11-generic-pae, within another partition i do not have the issue.

[Bug 945745] [NEW] Periodically Black Screen on Kubuntu 12.04 x_64

2012-03-03 Thread Christof Löwe
Public bug reported:

Kubuntu 12.04 amd64 fresh beta 1 install shows periodically black
screen. Sometimes the desktop comes back, sometimes finally the system
freezes. Hardware please see file attached.

For weeks with alpha 2 the system did not show this behaviour. I don't
know exactly when it started. Then, with beta 1, i did a fresh install
because i thougt it would be possible that the system was malconfigured
to death. But the same thing with the fresh install, without installing
any other software.

2012-03-03 Thread Christof Löwe
Thank you. - Unfortunately, the command results only in "Apport: No further
information gathered".
Another significant issue: The systemsettings Effects Configuration shows
"Xrender" instead of "OpenGL" as always before.
What else could i try to provide more useful information?

2012-03-03 Thread Christof Löwe
It was installed from USB with Alternate Image.
I don't think the problem is the installation media or -process. The first
install showed exactly the same behaviour, after a long time when it had worked
fine.

[Bug 945745] Re: Periodically Black Screen on Kubuntu 12.04 x_64

2012-03-04 Thread Christof Löwe
Now that i have everything prepared to backtrace xorg - nothing happens. ;-)
The systems seems to be healthy to the core now. For the sake of demonstation.
In yesterdays xorg.0.log there are some sections "backtrace" (see attachment).

I will behold that. Seems that the problem is gone, but not sure. If
not, i'll be back. Thanks again.

[Bug 1407763] [NEW] System crash Xubuntu 14.10 on i5-3337U CPU

2015-01-05 Thread Christof Löwe
Public bug reported:

System is not running stable, it crashes (freezes) sooner or later.
Sometimes with virtual console on screen, saying

“not syncing: fatal exception in interrupt
drm_kms_helper:: panic occurred, switching back to text console”

 - sometimes without console appearing. No more input possible (no
sysrq), just hard reset.

Apparently this is caused by i915 driver. It always happens with
applications with a bit higher graphics performance requirements, e.g.
watching DVB-T-TV in a little me-tv- or vlc-window and browsing the
Internet at the same time. Initially core temperature and fan speed
rise, and then follows the exitus follows.

Same experience on Xubuntu 14.04 and Kubuntu 14.04. The reason why i
file this against Utopic is that i have altered my Trusty-Systems with
Intel Drivers from 01.org (see below).

The following attempts did not improve the thing:

Trying “Intel Graphics Installer” from 01.org 1.0.7 within the Trusty
Systems.

Trying (alone and with Intel Drivers) Mainline Kernel 3.18.1. But of
course initally with regular Utopic 3.16.

It may be of interest that on the very same machine the OS “Siduction”
(Debian Unstable Rolling Release) runs without any problems or concerns
(currently Kernel 3.18 and xorg-packages from Debian Sid branch). The
computer is the Asus "Vivopc VM-60", CPU i5-3337U.

[Bug 951389] [NEW] Intel Core i5-2500k/HD2000 not stable: black screen / crashes

2012-03-10 Thread Christof Löwe
Public bug reported:

In Kubuntu Precise beta1 x_64, full up-to-date, i experience crashes of
the Xserver. There are black screens, sometimes the desktop comes back,
somtimes it ends up with a crash with moveable mouse but no further
possibilities. More Information about hardware and logs see attachments.
Strange symptom is, that this disposition to crash seems sometimes not
to be present after boot, sometimes (and far more times unfortunately)
yes.

[Bug 864196] [NEW] Realtek RTL8111/8168B: Wrong driver module is loaded

2011-10-01 Thread Christof Löwe
Public bug reported:

On AsRock Z68 Pro3 Motherboard with Realtek RTL8111/8168B Ethernet
controller rev 06 the wrong driver module r8169 is loaded and
connectivity is very bad and slow and interrupted. Correct driver module
is r8168. If installed manually from Realteks website the device is
working well. - But on reboot Ubuntu loads r8169 again - without huge
effort to avoid this.

Seems to be older issue, see e.g.

But no solution except manual install?

Tested here in oneiric with mainline 3.1 Kernel, too. No change.

[Bug 864196] Re: Realtek RTL8111/8168B: Wrong driver module is loaded

2011-10-01 Thread Christof Löwe
This is very serious.

But i think it is not a specific Ubuntu issue but a kernel one.

It's everywhere the same. I also tried Debian Testing (Linux MInt Debian
Edition). The problem is that there is no module r8168 anywhere. Now,
with this mentioned need to get the Ralink drivers makefile patched for
linux 3.x this might be the end of linux contact for many people if they
own the "right" hardware.

[Bug 827583] [NEW] keyboard reacts slow in unity dash
