[Bug 163213] Re: thunderbird 2.0 couldn't manage any attachment (pdf, archives..etc..).Every time i ty to open a file attached to a message it can't be opened

2008-10-08 Thread Chris Kenyon
So I get the following message when I click on the an attached .pdf.

"filename could not be opened, because the associated helper
application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences."

Given the frequency of this use case I would suggest this is a high /
critical issue

[Bug 353252] [NEW] Notification framework wizard fails and is uncancellable when the panel has been re-organised.

2009-04-01 Thread Chris Kenyon
Public bug reported:

The new status menu prompts me to update when I log in it but then
fails. Everytime I log in I get hit by the same notification and have
no way of cancelling it or making it work.

* Background

I have upgraded since 6.06 and am presently using the 9.04 beta.
I have altered the order of icons and panels at the top of my screen.
I appear to have lost my notification panel (the one that tells me about
updates). This may have happened prior to my upgrade or during my first boot of
the beta.

[Bug 351482] [NEW] Re-adding network manager icon to top panel is undiscoverable due to naming of notifications panel

2009-03-30 Thread Chris Kenyon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

For a user who has lost or accidentally removed the notifications panel
and wants to see the NetworkManager connection status in the top panel
- the naming and icon use for the "notifications area" makes it
extremely difficult to discover that this is indeed the panel widget
that needs to be added. I somehow switched off this vital piece of
functionality and have been left hunting for it.

Given that WIFI connectivity is such an important use case I would argue
that this is a high priority issue that can be solved simply. Even as en
experienced user I have had to resort to the forums / mailing lists [1]

Simple fixes:

- Instead of using the somewhat redundant icon with an 'i' on it - could
we use the wireless connectivity icon? (I am assuming that my use case
is the most common :-) )

- Can we add the word wireless or WIFI or network into the Notification
panel description as it appears after you click on 'ADD TO PANEL' ? - At
least it would turn up when I type in wireless or Wifi into the applet
search box

Larger fixes:

Should the network manager icon by switch-on-able from other locations
(preferences or administration)?

[Bug 351491] [NEW] Display preferences should be discoverable via the "Change desktop background" window

2009-03-30 Thread Chris Kenyon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

USE CASE

User boots with a monitor attached and Ubuntu decides that the external
monitor is the Primary monitor. Gnome panels attach themselves to the
external screen. User disconnects from external screen (which I do at
least 5 times a day) and discover that a) I cannot access the GNOME
panels and worse ) I cannot access the "Display - Change screen
resolution" applet either.

There are clearly many ways of attacking this:

- Can we make the Display Screen Resolution applet functionality (where
you can manipulate where the screens are) visible via the "Change
Desktop Background" window. At least when a user cannot see the
standard GNOME panels - they can still unattach the additional monitor.

- Can we introduce the concept of primary and secondary monitors and
allow a user to state which one is which. (Auto detection of the most
commonly used one would be great too)

- Should the right click on the desktop really be named - CHANGE DESKTOP
BACKGROUND - can we use something more generic?

[Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult

2010-03-30 Thread Chris Kenyon
Can someone update the summary of this bug - there is alot of valuable
information in the comments that is not reflected in the summary

- The issue has been an issue for users (especially of large) screens for
several releases
- Trackpad users seem to be particularly impacted by this
- The issue appears to have been significantly aggravated in Lucid by changing
the border width from 3 pixels to 1 pixel

It sounds like very developer centric error messaging. It does not

[Bug 438004] [NEW] Cursor orientation and positioning on a rotated second screen

Public bug reported:

[Bug 1310200] Re: Indicators disappear at the panel (clementine, dropbox, skype etc)

2014-07-01 Thread Chris Kenyon
The issue impacts normal usage of Skype. I used the following
instructions to fix the issue on my 14.04 64 bit install:

3.3 Fix missing Skype tray icon / appindicator on Ubuntu 64bit

On 64bit, the required package to get a Skype tray / appindicator icon
is not installed automatically. To fix this, use the following command:
sudo apt-get install sni-qt:i386

The Skype tray icon might disappear after you log in, but it should show
up after a few seconds.

[Bug 387828] Re: ALT+TAB with compiz shows really ugly icons for minimized windows

2011-04-18 Thread Chris Kenyon
Can we use resized icons for the major apps ahead of fixing the more
gnarly problem of not snapshotting minimized apps - Libreoffice, FF,
Chrome, Empathy icons alone would offer very significant polish to
Ubuntu

[Bug 747192] [NEW] 3D Unity lacks basic feature parity w/ 2D version around FF Bookmark handling

2011-04-01 Thread Chris Kenyon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

2D Unity allows a user to drag any page across to the launcher and have
it be added as a link to the launcher. The feature also pulls the
appropriate icon into the launcher at a higher res than the standard
favicons.

The inconsistency between the two versions is a challenge in
productisation with OEMs.

[Bug 753584] [NEW] New Libre office icons are used in the launcher but not in Nautilus / Dash search results

2011-04-07 Thread Chris Kenyon
Public bug reported:

Suspect that this is a bug with the Ambiance theme.

The new Libre Office icons are great - Blue for docs, Green for spread
sheets and Red for presentations. These icons are clean and reflect the
document type colour coding standards that users expect (Google and MSFT
both do the same here.)

When you see files in Nautilus OR the dash, the icons used to represent
files pick up the old, frankly unattractive and unclear icons from open
office.

Getting the Libre Off icons to be used by Nautilus is a quick but very
large usability and aesthetic win.

[Bug 753584] Re: New Libre office icons are used in the launcher but not in Nautilus / Dash search results

2011-04-12 Thread Chris Kenyon
The design team are a strong +1 on using the more upto date icons rather
than the old OO ones.

I spoke with Jason Warner on the desktop team and I believe we will get
a UI freeze exception for this.

Let me know what I can do to help here.
