[Bug 244674] Re: miro segmentation fault
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: miro (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- miro segmentation fault https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/244674 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

While I think that you are correct, that we should transition to Empathy as the default IM sometime in the next couple of releases, a Launchpad bug isn't really the right forum for suggesting such a change. [Bug 261373] [NEW] CVE-2008-3547: Network exploitable buffer overrun in openttd < 0.6.2
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openttd >From the Debian bug: OpenTTD servers of version 0.6.1 and below are susceptible to a remotely exploitable buffer overflow when the server is filled with companies and clients with names that are (near) the maximum allowed length for names. In the worst case OpenTTD will write the following (mostly remotely changable bytes) into 1460 bytes of malloc-ed memory: up to 11 times (amount of players) 118 bytes up to 8 times (amount of companies) 124 bytes and 7 "header" bytes Resulting in up to 2297 bytes being written in 1460 bytes of malloc-ed memory. This makes it possible to remotely crash the game or change the gamestate into an unrecoverable state. There are three ways of fixing this: - upgrading to 0.6.2. - backporting the bugfixes to 0.6.1 and make a network-incompatible version of OpenTTD which makes it impossible to participate in multiplayer games with both Debian and non-Debian users. - increase the allocation size, which will make it even network incompatible with itself. You certainly can't run wmii with compiz - they're both window managers, and you can only run one window manager at a time. It looks like the people who have re-opened this bug are actually experiencing a Firefox bug that curiously doesn't manifest under Metacity. If I had to make a guess, I'd say it's due to differing "legacy fullscreen" support. [Bug 299338] Re: grub2 taking configuration from somewhere else
What do you mean by "not booting the way it boots from menu.lst"? What exactly is different? In particular, does grub-pc *work* - as in: does it successfully load Ubuntu? Grub2 doesn't use menu.lst; it does have its own configuration. As to your other questions: *) It sets root=(hd0,1) because grub2 starts partition numbering at 1, not 0 *) The "search --fs-uuid --set" line is searching for your /boot partition by UUID, and setting it to the root if it finds it. The only influence the bootloader has on the usplash theme is (a) whether it's on or not, and (b) the root partition that you're booting from. Since you've set menu.lst to not show the splash, it obviously won't be shown under grub legacy. You haven't disabled the splash under grub2, so the usplash will be shown. Finally; I don't think the UUIDs of your drives are a particular concern, but the UUID of your root drive is still in the menu.lst you posted. And the UUID of your / partition is in grub.cfg. ** Changed in: grub2 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- grub2 taking configuration from somewhere else https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/299338 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

If you're not running a compositing manager (not Compiz, which requires 3d, but Metacity's compositing manager, KWin's "XRender backend" compositing manager, or xcompmgr), then this is expected behaviour for the moment. [Bug 363880] Re: When using xserver-xorg-video-nouveau, xine-ui crashes with X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Normally the minimal amount of information necessary for a nouveau bug report is Xorg.0.log, xorg.conf, and dmesg output. However, I can guess a few things: 1) You've got a geforce 8 or 9 series card 2) You aren't using a compositing manager such as KWin (with desktop effects enabled, with the XRender backend), Metacity (with the /apps/metacity/general/compositing_manager gconf key set to 'true') or xcompmgr. If this is the case, then it's currently expected behaviour. The nouveau drivers only provide Xv acceleration for geforce 8 or 9 series cards when the Composite extension is being used. ** Changed in: xine-ui (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Changed in: xine-ui (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Chris Halse Rogers (raof) -- When using xserver-xorg-video-nouveau, xine-ui crashes with X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/363880 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 363880] Re: When using xserver-xorg-video-nouveau, xine-ui crashes with X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
This is expected to not work without a composite manager. Assuming you're using Ubuntu & GNOME rather than KDE or something else, running: """ gconftool-2 --set --type=bool /apps/metacity/general/compositing_manager true """ to turn on Metacity's compositor should make video playback work for you again. It's not really possible to set that automatically, and enabling it breaks compiz (due to a long-standing metacity bug, among other silliness). I'm closing this bug as invalid. The 'nv' driver is maintained by an nvidia employee, and is generally fairly feature-poor (not much acceleration, no 3d, poor dual-head, etc). affects ubuntu/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau status wontfix The nouveau drivers in Ubuntu offer absolutely no 3d support; this bug doesn't really apply to them at the moment. The upstream nouveau development does have some 3d support for some cards, but this is aggressively unsupported - it is known to be incomplete, and the best that can be expected is for it to run undemanding 3d apps until VRAM is exhausted. Re: [Bug 231697] Re: Composite extension not working with dual screens using Xinerama
Ok. So, there are some use-cases that I didn't know about where Xinerama is required. That doesn't change my comment, though: the nVidia drivers are proprietary, closed source blobs. We cannot fix or improve the nvidia drivers in any way. Furthermore, I don't believe nVidia intends to (re)implement Xinerama+Composite. [Bug 89222] Re: compiz only refreshes part of desktop/root window width, leaves ghosts in remaining area
This sounds a *lot* like you've passed "SKIP_CHECKS=1" to compiz. This *is* a limitation of your card - the maximum texture size is 2048x2048, and compiz represents each window as a texture. Since the desktop window is bigger than the maximum texture size, you get wierdness. Compiz *should* be refusing to start for you. If you've told it to SKIP_CHECKS, then you've only got yourself to blame. If you haven't, then it would be a bug that it isn't refusing to start. There may also be a bug in that compiz won't be disabled when you dynamically add a second monitor - I'm not sure if this is handled.
