[Bug 306072] [NEW] bookmark star does not add to list by clicking once

2008-12-07 Thread Brittany Dunlap
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Firefox 3.0.4
Ubuntu 8.10

When I click the yellow star, to add a bookmark, it does not show up in
the bookmark menu. I have to click again on the star to edit it and save
that, then the bookmark shows in the 'bookmarks' menu.

Expected result of clicking once on the star: Bookmark is auto-saved
somewhere in the bookmarks menu as "page-title" (whatever is showing on
the title bar of the tab or window.

[Bug 299365] [NEW] xubuntu - screen brightness dims after screensaver initializes

2008-11-18 Thread Brittany Dunlap
Public bug reported:

Xubuntu 8.10, all updates applied.

After the screen saver has initialized and I come back from being away,
the screen brightness is dimmed considerably. Xbacklight doesn't work
and fn+right arrow is buggy.

Fn+right arrow which controls screen brightness on my laptop does not
work properly, if repeatedly tapping the right arrow (fast) it seems to
get confused and the brightness goes up and down fast in succession. It
does work if done slowly. If I hold down fn+right arrow the brightness
does go to full light. No screen representation when using the function
keys like in Gnome.

xbacklight works fine after I manually put the screen at highest
brightness slowly tapping fn+rightarrow.

I don't know of this is one bug or two (or more) but at least here is
the base report.

Expected results:
1. Screensaver should un-dim the screen after it ends.
2. Fn key combo should not be picky as to how fast you tap the keys.
3. Xbacklight should work, it works right in Ubuntu 8.04LTS.

My laptop is an Acer Aspire 7720 (not gamer edition)
Intel 965GM
2Gig DDR2 ram
250Gig HDD

If you have an LCD screen or monitor fonts everywhere tend to be fuzzy

[Bug 298278] [NEW] Using Fn+arrow keys to change screen brightness causes gtk to fail

2008-11-14 Thread Brittany Dunlap
Public bug reported:

I have a Dell Inspiron 1200 with Xubuntu 8.10 installed. All updates
installed.

When I use the keyboard function keys to change the screen brightness
(Fn+up/down) GTK? freezes. Windows do not function properly neither do
the menus. I have to kill X to fix the problem.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Have Dell Inspiron 1200 with Xubuntu 8.10 installed. All updates installed.
2. Log into graphical environment XFCE.
3. On the keyboard hit Fn+Arrowup/Arrowdown to change screen brightness.
4. See XFCE freeze, basically becoming useless.
5. Kill X to start fresh.

Expected outcome:
Use Fn key combo to change screen brightness without causing failures in other
system components or software.

Side Note: Fn key combo for audio volume up/down does not cause
problems. Although using Fn combo for audio does not show a graphical
representation on screen as the screen brightness key combo does.

[Bug 185915] Re: shared folder do not install samba and nfs

2008-11-16 Thread Brittany Dunlap
This happens to me in Xubuntu 8.10, all updates installed.

I open System>Shared Folders and the Shared Folders app think I need to
install SMB and NFS, I opt to install it, it then 'installs it' and
keeps asking to install them. Yes it could be because you need to be
root to do so. I click Close to close the dialog box asking to install
NFS/SMB and I'm able to add a share. Not sure if SMB/NFS are installed
but it doesn't ask anymore to install them even after closing the app
and reopening.

I haven't had this problem while NOT running VLC. It is most likely
caused by VLC, as I did have it open a lot during the time I experienced

2009-01-14 Thread Brittany Dunlap
Public bug reported:

Users/Groups app won't allow any changes even after it asks for password

Hardy, all updates applied. I believe this happens in Intrepid as well.
I switched back to Hardy b/c of massive issues with Intrepid.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Log into normal user's account
2. Click System menu, click Administration, click Users and Groups.
3. Give password
4. Users and Groups app pops up, Click Manage Groups.
5. See that everything is greyed out.

I just tried something. Via console I added a test user using 'sudo
useradd -m testuser' and added a password for the account. I then logged
in via testuser and checked to see if I could change/edit the users and
groups. It worked. Nothing was greyed out.

I am wondering if something is not set right in a hidden folder in Home.
Not being an expert in linux I wouldn't know which directory that would be.

I have used the same home directory for several distros, so something
may have gotten mixed up.

Any ideas how to fix this if it is a hidden directory problem?

Thank you for marking it as duplicate. I am (in general) quite new to
linux as I've just recently started trying to find bugs and randomly
come upon them as I use linux day to day. I didn't know that xsane was
responsible for /dev/video0 not working properly, if that is the case.
In a side note I had to switch to another distribution since the latest
updates were applied which caused the computer to halt suddenly and A
LOT. I might switch back to 8.04 if I get bored with this distro.

I wouldn't know, BUT I think it's a probem with

[Bug 66566] Re: Inconsistent shortcuts for new tab

2008-12-19 Thread Brittany Dunlap
Some people like alt and some like control. Personally for a new tab I
just right-click to open in new tab OR double click the tab bar to open
a new blank tab.

I don't see how this is a bug that necessarily needs fixed as each
browser has different shortcuts and options, so saying Opera only has
one shortcut for 'open in new tab' does not mean that firefox should
only have one.

I do see this bug report is old and still open... Perhaps that's for the
better.

I cannot confirm this for Ibex, firefox 3.0.5. And you can't double
click on a listing in the bookmarks news feed menu... Only single click.

Repeat, cannot confirm. Perhaps it's fixed on this version firefox.

Re: [Bug 299365] Re: xubuntu - screen brightness dims after screensaver initializes

This bug is mostly fixed. The screen brightness stays high after the
screensaver goes off, but Fn+Right/Left arrows is extremely buggy. It
flickers the screen and does not return the screen to high brightness
without a struggle.

[Bug 872026] Re: guvcview crashes when starting to record video

Neither capture image or video works for me. It segfaults on either.

segfault at the end. I hope we can figure this out. I want to be able to

[Bug 715590] [NEW] Scrolling and clicking links are slow

2011-02-08 Thread Brittany Dunlap
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

When scrolling through pages with my mouse wheel usually it scrolls
slowly or usually is delayed a second. Clicking links are the same way.
And so is typing in a text box of any kind. It has to play catch-up when
begining typing and at times when pausing and resuming and if hitting
backspace --when i continue typing. It's rather frustrating and I'm
getting sick of it. I'm probably going to install Chrome. I already have
Opera installed and might use that instead. I want to continue using FF

Ubuntu window under System>About Ubuntu has the wrong version
information. It says "You are using Ubuntu 11.04 - the Natty Narwhal -
released in April 2011 and supported until October 2012." when it should
say that I'm using 10.10.

[Bug 721547] [NEW] Music from Sansa Fuze 4gb not showing up in nautilus

2011-02-18 Thread Brittany Dunlap
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I'm not sure what the problem is.. I just found my old mp3 player and it
has music on it (I checked by turning on the device and seeing what was
on there.) I connected it to my computer via a brand new cable as I had
to order a new one because I lost my original one. I have not plugged
it into a windows machine to see if it has the same problem. The drive
mounts fine and allows me to view the contents of the drive but the only
folders that are there are DCIM, 100KC180 and an untitled folder I just
put there. No files other than those folders. I find that odd. I don't
know if it's a problem with nautilus, ubuntu 10.10 or my sansa fuze.

[Bug 721547] Re: Music from Sansa Fuze 4gb not showing up in nautilus

2011-04-10 Thread Brittany Dunlap
I found the problem. It's not a problem with nautilus. It's a sansa
problem. I have to change the USB mode to MSC (I think that's the
correct one). M...-something. 3 letters. I don't have my sansa right
now to check. It's the last of the few options for USB settings in the
sansa itself.

You can close this report. Thank you.

[Bug 1962340] [NEW] Printer rarely actually prints after processing the file.

2022-02-25 Thread Brittany Dunlap
Public bug reported:

My printer is a Brother HL-L2320D laser printer connected via USB with
no option for wifi-printing as it's not supported by this printer. It is
connected via a USB 3.0 port on my laptop. I'm logged in via regular
user, not admin. It is odd that it acts as though it's going to print,
then when it's done processing it just disappears from the print que as
if the print has been completed. This isn't specific to my Brother
printer. I also had this problem with an HP printer prior to replacing
the old HP printer. I had this happen in Lubuntu and also in Ubuntu.

Description:Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS
Release:20.04

cups:
  Installed: 2.3.1-9ubuntu1.1
  Candidate: 2.3.1-9ubuntu1.1
  Version table:
 *** 2.3.1-9ubuntu1.1 500
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-updates/main amd64
Packages
500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-security/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 2.3.1-9ubuntu1 500
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages

I expected my files to print, but they didn't. I did successfully print
two of the 6 documents, but what's different about them versus the
others, I have no idea. I tried printing via Eye of MATE (which was the
default program to open some of the files), and I tried printing them
via Firefox, and another file via Libre Office Writer. LO Writer won't
print. Eye of Mate won't print. Firefox won't print.

I restarted cups via the terminal with "service cups restart" and tried
printing via Eye of MATE. It didn't work. I then tried to print via LO
Writer. Of the six page document, only the first page printed. What the
heck is going on? I then exported that Writer document (which was saved
both as .odt and as .docx (neither would print properly or at all) as
PDF and opened that with Atril Document Viewer, and it also wouldn't
print. It acted like it was processing then disappeared from the
Document Printer Status window as if it had completed. Clicking the
checkbox it appears as though it was completed.

I've never had so many problems trying to print before. I know it's not
specific to HP printers, because it's my current printer that's behaving
the same way as my old HP and this is Brother.

I hoped restarting cups again would fix it, it has not.

Switching to a USB 2.0 port didn't resolve the problem.
