[Bug 289880] Re: cannot create download directory (intrepid)

2009-02-26 Thread Bradley Peters
I described how I got the original error message in my first post:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/289880/comments/10

The steps I used to produce the debug log I posted are as follows.

1. Created a new user account called testing
2. Logged in and launched Rhythmbox using:

$ rhythmbox --debug &> rhythmbox.log

3. The podcast directory is set to the default, i.e. /home/testing/Music
3. Add a New Podcast Feed with the url .
4. Rhythmbox shortly attempts to download the most recent episode
5. The "Error creating podcast download directory" message is displayed:

"Unable to create the download directory for
file:///home/testing/Music/Science%20Fiction%20Book%20Review%20Podcast/SFBRP
#040 - Fredrick Pohl - Gateway.mp3: Operation not supported"

[Bug 289880] Re: cannot create download directory (intrepid)

2009-02-01 Thread Bradley Peters
I think I am experiencing this same bug. I'm running an updated copy of
Ubuntu 8.10 with the proposed repository enabled.

$ dpkg-query -W rhythmbox
rhythmbox   0.11.6svn20081008-0ubuntu4.3

The feed I'm experiencing problems is the Science Fiction Book Review
Podcast at . It seem worth noting
that every episode in this feed has the number sign (#) character in the
enclosure URL, as does the download in the error message posted with the
original summary.

Steps:
1. Add a New Podcast Feed with the url .
2. When Rhythmbox attempts to download the first episode I get an error message
titled "Error creating podcast download directory" with the following message:

"Unable to create the download directory for
file:///home/bdp/Podcasts/Science%20Fiction%20Book%20Review%20Podcast/SFBRP
#040 - Fredrick Pohl - Gateway.mp3: Operation not supported"

This also happens with other episodes in the same feed.

[Bug 289880] Re: cannot create download directory (intrepid)

2009-02-01 Thread Bradley Peters
I'm attaching my debug log. This was created by running Rhythmbox in a
brand new user account created just for this purpose. I made no
configuration changes other than subscribing to the Science Fiction Book
Review Podcast mentioned above.

$ rhythmbox --debug &> rhythmbox.log

[Bug 162790] Re: mouse scroll wheel rolled up/back causes context menu to appear

2009-03-07 Thread Bradley Peters
I'm so glad I found this bug entry.

I recently started experiencing this problem with Firefox 3 on 8.10. I
wasn't having any luck figuring out a solution. Some of the suggested
solutions required changes to xorg.conf which I find really confusing
because my xorg.conf file doesn't have a mouse entry.

For some reason I never thought it might have been related to the KVM
(Linkskey LKV-SO4SK).

As I said, I don't understand the configuration very well so I don't
know if this can be included for a standard install. However, it would
be great if there was some way to deal with this out of the box.

[Bug 327082] [NEW] Totem crashes on loading files

2009-02-08 Thread Bradley Peters
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 on x86_64. It was recently installed from a new
CD.

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10

$ uname -srvmo
Linux 2.6.27-11-generic #1 SMP Thu Jan 29 19:28:32 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Every time the Totem application launches my screen goes black for a
moment. If the application is opening with a file (e.g. I double click
StopMotionUbuntu.ogv in the Examples folder) it crashes immediately. If
I open the program using the Movie Player launcher in my Applications
menu the display still goes blank, but the program doesn't crash until I
open a file. In either scenario the program crashes without an error
message and just disappears.

This still happens if I turn Visual Effects off.

If I start totem with the --debug flag and then open StopMotionUbuntu.ogv from
the menu I get the following error report.
$ totem --debug
** (totem:21552): DEBUG: Init of Python module
** (totem:21552): DEBUG: Registering Python plugin instance:

** (totem:21552): DEBUG: Creating object of type YouTube+TotemPythonPlugin
** (totem:21552): DEBUG: Creating Python plugin instance
The program 'totem' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 67 error_code 11 request_code 140 minor_code 19)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
   option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

I think this might be related to this bug

all of the parts to know for sure.

[Bug 147966] Re: gnome-appearance-properties message dialog fails to close properly

I've also encountered this bug on my desktop computer. I have an ATI
Radeon X1300 graphics adapter.

[Bug 461163] Re: Gnome Freezes -- Ubuntu 9.10 -- big time freezes.

2009-11-18 Thread Bradley Peters
I encountered a similar problem with my Ubuntu computer locking up. I
had previously been using Ubuntu 8.10 and I think I had Effects disable,
but I had to do a fresh install of 9.10 because I could not get 9.04 to
work on my computer. When I upgraded to 9.04 the system would freeze up
also including while Update Manager was running which made the system
unbootable.

In any case, based on the comments posted here, I have removed all
packages with compiz in the name. The system now seems to be running
fine. I don't think I've ever used the Desktop Effects so I'm not
missing anything. My computer has an ATI Radeon X1300 (RV515).

[Bug 461163] Re: Gnome Freezes -- Ubuntu 9.10 -- big time freezes.

2009-11-18 Thread Bradley Peters
It looks like I posted too soon. Removing the compiz packages did not
get rid of the locking up problem. My system ran for a while and then
locked up again. When it locked up a couple of the lights on my keyboard
flashed so I decided to try disconnecting my KVM switch. I have now run
the system about twice as long as after my last post and it hasn't
locked up.

In my case the problem appears to have been the KVM switch.

2009-11-18 Thread Bradley Peters
My system ran much longer (several hours) before locking up this time,
but even with the KVM disconnected my system still locked up. I'm not
sure what to test now.

[Bug 781369] [NEW] about:startpage returns 404 Not Found when engine other than Google or Yahoo! is selected

2011-05-11 Thread Bradley Peters
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

I recently upgraded to 11.04. When I load firefox it tries to open
about:startpage which results in a 404 Not Found with the following
body: "The requested URL /11.04/Duck Duck Go/ was not found on this
server."

Normally, I have Duck Duck Go selected in the Firefox search box. If I
select either Google or Yahoo! then the Ubuntu start page loads
successfully with either a Google or Yahoo! search box. If I select any
of the other included search engines I get a 404 result similar to the
one above. I would have expected that when I've selected a search engine
that is not supported by the Ubuntu start page I would just get the
default page (presumably Google).
