Re: [Bug 147623] Re: [amd64 + nvidia 8xxx] usplash shows nothing

2009-07-06 Thread Bert Van de Poel
Ubuntu 7.10 is Gutsy, not Hardy and Gutsy isn't supported anymore for as
far as I know.
It is also not the fault of the graphics card but a combination of all
sorts of issues on quite a few sides, I did some kind of workaround to
fix this but I don't remember it (I'm on hardy now and planning to
migrate to jaunty soon).

The nvidia nforce chipset has nothing to do with the bug, it's just the
graphics card. Also, my nforce ethernet works just fine, no special
configuration required, it works fine with the forcedeth drivers that
are builtin. I guess upgrading might be a good idea.

Also, I'm not sure whether the 6000series need the new or the legacy
nvidia drivers from the repo.

I clearly want to state that nvidia hardware is not trash, I personally
consider it as very good hardware.
On linux drivers it's usually something like this if we're talking just
about graphics:
intel > nvidia > ati (not talking about Via and other, smaller players).

About the recommended hardware: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupport/

[Bug 267376] Re: [Request] OpenOffice.org 3.0 in Intrepid ibex release

2008-10-14 Thread Bert Van de Poel
I think OOo 3.0 should at least be added to main. It would be nice if it
was a standard part of 8.10 but otherwise it should be at least an

[Bug 236305] Re: Creating user with username 'admin' hoses admin group, sudo config

2008-10-08 Thread Bert Van de Poel
I can also confirm this bug and I have a basic idea how to fix it:
if the GUI just checks if the group it creates already exists and if so errors
or searches a solution or whatever, it should work.
So I guess this has to be forwarded to GNOME or is this up to ubuntu ?

[Bug 280975] [NEW] include CAcert root certificate by default in firefox/konqueror/???-browser

2008-10-09 Thread Bert Van de Poel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-desktop

This is more like a feature request but the guys at ubuntu+1 told me
that I should just post a bug for it.

I would like to see the CAcert root certificate included into as much browsers
as possible on ubuntu, CAcert is in the spirit of FOSS and has been included
into many different linux distributions including debian.
It has already applied for inclusion into firefox but wasn't accepted because
of administrative stuff and staffing but now that that is settled they are
applying again for inclusion and will probably be included in one of firefox's
newer versions.

I think it is important that ubuntu supports this kind of projects and
that it will be beneficial for both server admins and the ubuntu users.

Well, I forgot to mention this, I found out some time ago that if I delete fd

fd and fd0.
So while typing this I realized that I can perhaps edit /etc/fstab, but I'm not
sure that'll be enough ;)

[Bug 1776489] Re: libxmltooling7 depends on libcurl3, which has been replaced by libcurl4 in Bionic

2018-07-29 Thread Bert Van de Poel
This bug really messed up our webworker upgrades to 18.04. We are forced
to do this rather messy workaround/hack for now:

[Bug 1784231] [NEW] Unreported change of shibd user

2018-07-29 Thread Bert Van de Poel
Public bug reported:

In 18.04 the systemd unit file for shibd is configured to run shibd as
the _shibd user instead of root. However, in previous versions this has
always been root. Therefore, (besides the problems with curl, see
#1776489 ) the upgrade results in shibd not working correctly since it
can't write to the root owned logs it previously created, and often
can't read the CredentialResolver key, since that would be owned by root
if installed securely.

It would be sensible to at least add information on this change of user
in the release notes of 18.04. I would also suggest a debconf
notification in the package and preferably a script to at least chown
log folders and files on upgrade. The key is hard to automate, but
information from debconf or release notes should inform a sysadmin on
how to continue.

** Affects: shibboleth-sp2 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Confirmed

@adam-omega Shibboleth 3.0 isn't packaged by Ubuntu or Debian yet and
will most certainly never land in 18.04.

deprived the device of its internet connection (obviously), only a

[Bug 1178292] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 with linux-generic-lts-raring: nvidia-experimental-310 kernel module failed to build

2013-06-15 Thread Bert Van de Poel
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 576648 ***

I did have the headers installed and I still got the exact same build-error and
problems as described and shown in the logs above.
(I installed through the meta packages for both image and headers)

[Bug 591025] Re: WD Passport External HD Read-Only Permissions

2011-04-21 Thread Bert Van de Poel
The cause of this problem is very simple: sometimes the ownership of a USB disk
is not transfered to the group "plugdev", this needs to be fixed as users do
not know how to change permissions.
Personally I think that on non-boot USB devices the default behavior should be
that they're rw for the group plugdev.

Currently someone from SUSE has been working on authenticator-rs. They
really want to see webauthn added to firefox and have been working for
weeks on CTAP2 support now. You can check out
https://github.com/mozilla/authenticator-rs/pull/150
https://github.com/mozilla/authenticator-rs/pull/154 and their own
development branch on https://github.com/msirringhaus/authenticator-
rs/tree/ctap2-cont

Of course, work would be much light if it wasn't a single person doing
all the work!

Maybe this gives you some idea of the progress of things right now :)

[Bug 1314160] Re: Apparmor profile violated: cupsd does mknod on /var/cache/samba/gencache.tdb

2021-10-01 Thread Bert Van de Poel
I can confirm as well for 18.04. Still there, and #11 still solves it.
