[Bug 174302] Re: package gimp-plugin-registry because a plugin is also in package gimp-lqr-plugin

2008-11-22 Thread Bernd Zeimetz
Sorry xuxieyu, but this does not help. The plan is not to install a
package, but to remove it. I'm kinda sure that the gimp-lqr-plugin is
from the plugin upstream's page. The real fix is still to remove the
package.

[Bug 388917] Re: gpsd depends on blacklisted garmin_gsm module

2009-06-18 Thread Bernd Zeimetz
The garmin_gps module should provide the necessary tty to talk to the
garmin gps. The garmin_gps module is loaded by udev, there is nothing
gpsd can do against that. I'm not sure if some standard usb-serial
converter module works with garmin gpsr - but thats still nothing that
could be changed in gpsd. The udev rules from gpsd only look at the
hardware informations from the usb device - and they're not affected by
the module which takes care of it. Udev just runs the gpsd rules if
there is a devices files created for a matching device.

I start to think your problem is that /proc/bus/usb is deprecated in Ubuntu, so
gpsd fails to use its own garmin driver?

[Bug 388917] Re: gpsd depends on blacklisted garmin_gps module

2009-06-18 Thread Bernd Zeimetz
The problem is that gpsd won't work without the garmin_gps module, on
the other side other packages should work with the module... so in fact
we have three bugs here:

- garmin_gps is blacklisted (could you file an appropriate bug against the
package which provides the blacklist?)
- garmin_gps should work as a usual usb<>serial adapter.
- gpsd needs to stop messing with /proc/bus/usb -

The whole garmin stuff is a large piece of crap with thanks to garmin as they

The other option seems to be to look into /sys...

But at the end I'd expect that the gamrin stuff is just removed from

The problem is that Ubuntu pulls packages from Debian without testing them. gpsd
works well in Debian, udev still includes the mentioned function, while it was
removed in Ubuntu in udev version 141. So All I can do is to blame Ubuntu. If
they change stuff which breaks packages they autosync (or even touch to "fix"
other things), they need to handle these changes in all packages. Otherwise they
should just take the versions from Debian.

> Anyway, 'nuff on finding blame, how best to fix? (I'm new to this).
The

gpsd will be autosynced from Debian again very soon, and I'll upload a package
with that fix within the next days, so it will be taken care of soon. Not sure
why I'm always wasting my time to work around Ubuntu weirdness.

[Bug 112494] Re: gpsd hotplug script broken

No idea what the status was back in 2.33.
Since 2.34 it was disabled for good reasons, see

It is fixed since 2.37-1, working around the mentioned bug by a debconf

If you update to the latest Ubuntu release you should be able to enable
hotplug support manually as described in
/usr/share/doc/gpsd/README.Debian.gz.

Somebody should backport 2.37-4 for Feisty propbably... Or just use
Debian, recent gpsd versions for Etch are available on backports.org.

[Bug 186373] Re: gpsd-clients (2.34) package in (gutsy-backports ) does not contain gpsfake

gpsfake is now included in python-gps. As it is less used than other tools I've
decided not to let gpsd-clients depend on python-gps.
Please install python-gps from backports, too.

that's not a sane fix. gimp-lqr-plugin needs to be changed to be a transitional
package to gimp-plugin-registry first.
The other option would be to movethe lqr plugin out of gimp-plugin-registry in
Debian, but creating more and more small plugin packages is not really a good
solution.

Where is the sense in having an extra add-apt-key package? Only because
it was written by Sun is not really a reason, the proper way would have

this would make sense as I guess that mod-wsgi will be the standard way
to host wsgi applications pretty soon.
Although I didn't test it, I'm pretty sure it should build fine in Ubuntu.

[Bug 138043] Re: [sync request] mod-wsgi from Debian sid main

2007-09-10 Thread Bernd Zeimetz
The package was rebuilt and used in production systems according to the
mod_wsgi list.
The short rationale is that this module will become the standard for hosting
wsgi applications, and it is proven to handle very high loads well, so people
will start to ask you why this module s not in Ubuntu sooner or later. Ubuntu
wants to be enterprisy and is more or less commercial, so it is completely your
job an decision to ship mod-wsgi or now. I don't care enough about Ubuntu to
invest more time here. I wanted to give you the chance to get mod-wsgi into
Gutsy - use it or not.

[Bug 185710] [NEW] gpsd: completely broken due to leap year bug

2008-01-24 Thread Bernd Zeimetz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gpsd

All versions of gpsd (at least of the 2.3X series) suffer from a leap
year bug which results in gpsd not working properly or not working at
all.

Suggested fix: sync gpsd 2.36-2 (NOT -1 as the garmin USB driver is broken in
there) from Debian sid. Unfortunately this includes a soname bump, so packages
build-depending on libgps-dev need to e rebuilt. As there were a lot of bugs
fixed between 2.34 and 2.36 this would be worth the work.
The other option is to apply the diff from
svn diff -r 4647:4652 svn://svn.berlios.de/gpsd/trunk/gpsutils.c
to your current version.

[Bug 174253] sync request: bugfixes in Debian/sid

2007-12-05 Thread Bernd Zeimetz
Public bug reported:

As the last gpsd upload won't hit testing before the DebianImportFreeze,
please sync it manually, as there were several bugs closed since the
last sync, which affects building packages against libgps-dev. This
probably will also require to fix the package gosmore, see Debian
#454519.

Source package name:

#Source package version number to sync:

does gpsd work well with other tools at that point, like cgps?
My guess is - not.
If so, please give
gpsd -b /dev/rfcomm0 a try and see if xgps and the other tools work well again.
Often the reason for such issues is that gpsd tries to change settings in the
gps chipset, but buggy bluetooth devices just shoot themselves into the head.

In any case please run gpscat on your device as soon as it is available via
/dev/rfcomm0, probably by replacing gpsd by gpscat in your script above, even
better when that happens asap after powering on the receiver.

Then send your sample via the web form at
https://www.mainframe.cx/cgi-bin/gps_report.cgi - make sure you fill out all the
fields. Please let me know when you've done so.

With the data it might be possible to reproduce the issue.

Thanks and cheers,

Bernd

[Bug 557177] Re: init: support mandatory arguments, or prevent starting of tasks without any arguments

2010-04-09 Thread Bernd Zeimetz
> Upstart runs all shell scripts with "set -e" by default.

So what if the script is *not* run by upstart, but by somebody trying to figure
out why things work (or not)?
If you need to assume that a piece of shell code is executed with -e being set,
add a set -e before that piece of code. Don't assume it will be called with sh
-e...

2010-04-06 Thread Bernd Zeimetz
Hi,

I need a description on what exactly to do to reproduce this bug.
Otherwise there is no way to fix it unfortunately - we've never seen it
happen before.

Thanks,

 Bernd

a Snapshot of stuff from some time ago.
