[Bug 518336] Re: thunderbird-3.0: Please turn off global search by default
I've just installed Lucid on an X24 laptop (1.2GHz) and the indexing just kills it. It should be really off by default. I've got a work account with 10,000s of e-mails and subfolders and it slowed down the computer substantially down to the level that I had to quit thunderbird to continue to work. Thunderbird feels much slower anyway than 2.x and this makes it worse. So, please disable indexing by default. -- thunderbird-3.0: Please turn off global search by default https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/518336 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1611532] [NEW] bluetooth USB dongle CSR8510 causes system freeze
Public bug reported: - Do a rfcomm bind. - Try a cat /dev/rfcomm0 In about 50% of cases the system completely freezes. In the other 40% the rfcomm data is garbled. In the remaining 10% the data is fine. The bt device at the other end is an RN42 which transmits text data. When scanning for devices often the bt name is not displayed or is shown as unknown. It worked perfectly under the previous LTS (precise) which was a 32 bit version. The xenial I'm using now is a 64bit version. Tested on: Linux bp1-ThinkPad-X220 4.8.0-040800rc1-generic #201608072231 SMP Mon Aug 8 02:33:57 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux The rfcomm connection is as unreliable as before. I've attached a file where I transmit comma separated data from a bluetooth device. The data is corrupted from time to time. There are 125 lines / sec transmitted which is well within the permitted bandwidth. The file was created by "cat /dev/rfcomm > rfcomm.dat". After a couple of seconds the connection is broken and cat returns to the command line. The same happens with putty (baudrate set to 230,000 but doesn't matter which I set). The same transmission works perfectly under both Windows (via putty) and Android. I had it running there for many hours without any data corruption and/or crashes. Under Android I tested it with a terminal program and I've also written a custom app which runs fine. Under Windows only via terminal. ** Attachment added: "this is raw data received from an rfcomm dev. [Bug 1079950] Re: netcat-traditional stops listening after one packet in UDP broadcast mode
I'm having exactly the same problem. I'm transmitting data with my program attys_scope. It's using QT for the UDP transmit and under Windows it works. Under Linux it won't. I've tried the nc -klu and it also just gives one line back. However the same problem arises when I use a python program which reads from the UDP socket. Under Windows it works. Under Linux it doesn't. So it might be something deeper in the kernel. Python script which works under Windows but not under Linux: # socket connection to attys_scope s = socket.socket(socket.AF_INET,socket.SOCK_DGRAM) listen_addr = ("",65000) s.bind(listen_addr) f = s.makefile() # init the amplitudes amplitudes = np.zeros(2) # for the thread below doRun = True # read data from the udp socket into two variables # note you need to have at least two analoge channels on # this just overwrites the amplitudes as fast as possible # for an oscilloscope plot we need a proper ringbuffer here! def readSocket(): global amplitudes while doRun: # check if data is available data = f.readline() values = np.array(data.split(','),dtype=np.float32) values = np.fabs(values) amplitudes = values[9:11] bp1@bp1-Precision-WorkStation-T5400:~/sandbox/attys_scope/python$ nc -klu 65000 491.859985,-30.928297,7.316680,-2.791639,0.13,-0.20,0.15,0.247545,0.001498,-0.000834,0.001498 QT program which transmits the datagrams (inspired by the QT examples which won't require a bind): void ScopeWindow::startUDP(int port) { udpSocket = new QUdpSocket(this); udpPort = port; _RPT1(0, "UDP transmit on port %d\n",port); } void ScopeWindow::stopUDP() { delete udpSocket; udpSocket = NULL; } void ScopeWindow::writeUDP() { if (!udpSocket) return; char tmp[256]; sprintf(tmp, "%f", ((float)nsamples) / ((float)attysComm[0]->getSamplingRateInHz())); for (int n = 0; n < nAttysDevices; n++) { int nFiltered = 0; for (int i = 0; i < channels_in_use; i++) { if (attys_scope->channel[n][i]->isActive()) { nFiltered++; } float phy = unfiltDAQData[n][i]; sprintf(tmp+strlen(tmp), ",%f", phy); } for (int i = 0; i < nFiltered; i++) { float phy = filtDAQData[n][i]; sprintf(tmp+strlen(tmp), ",%f", phy); } } sprintf(tmp+strlen(tmp), "\n"); if (udpSocket) { if (udpStatus > -1) { udpStatus = udpSocket->writeDatagram(tmp, strlen(tmp), QHostAddress::Broadcast, udpPort); //_RPT1(0, "%s", tmp); } } } This script works find under Windows. [Bug 1605974] [NEW] usbduxsigma_firmware.bin: old version causes driver crash
Public bug reported: The firmware of the usbduxsigma (alongside with the usbduxsigma.c) was updated in 2015 during a major rewrite but its binary was still the old one which causes the kernel driver to fail. I've submitted a patch to the kernel people (see below). However, as a quick fix could you also apply the patch to the package directly to have this fixed now and then we can wait until it trickles down from the kernel. I'm the maintainer of both the firmware and the drivers. This affects both 32 and 64 bit distros. Just tested with 4.8-rc4: no ethernet, no bluetooth at all and graphics defaults to VGA only. Booted back to the stock ubuntu xenial kernel and bluetooth/network is back up running. This has been reported in July and the firmware still hasn't been updated. I'm using the board in teaching at my university and now we have to manually copy the new firmware version. [Bug 1894967] [NEW] Upgrade from bionic LTS to focal LTS fails because of "pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks"
Public bug reported: main.log gives this error: 2020-09-09 10:15:03,237 ERROR Dist-upgrade failed: 'E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.' however, there is no hint in the log files what that might be. [Bug 2070184] [NEW] Gnome terminal input lag
Public bug reported: I expect instantaneous reactions to key strokes when typing into a terminal. What happens: long lags when tying into the gnome terminal. To reproduce: - open standard gnome terminal - type or press enter - Slow response to key strokes up to one second. It's very hard to do any kind of productive work. This affects any key input so that also remote ssh sessions are affected. lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS Release:22.04 mutter: Installed: (none) Candidate: 42.9-0ubuntu7.1 Version table: 42.9-0ubuntu7.1 500 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy-security/universe amd64 Packages 42.0-3ubuntu2 500 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy/universe amd64 Packages ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 22.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+23ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.15.0-112.122-generic 5.15.152 Uname: Linux 5.15.0-112-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia .proc.driver.nvidia.capabilities.fabric-imex-mgmt: DeviceFileMinor: 4323 DeviceFileMode: 256 DeviceFileModify: 1 .proc.driver.nvidia.capabilities.gpu0: Error: path was not a regular file. .proc.driver.nvidia.capabilities.mig: Error: path was not a regular file. .proc.driver.nvidia.gpus..21.00.0: Error: path was not a regular file. .proc.driver.nvidia.registry: Binary: "" .proc.driver.nvidia.suspend: suspend hibernate resume .proc.driver.nvidia.suspend_depth: default modeset uvm .proc.driver.nvidia.version: NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 550.90.07 Fri May 31 09:35:42 UTC 2024 GCC version: gcc version 11.4.0 (Ubuntu 11.4.0-1ubuntu1~22.04) .tmp.unity_support_test.0: ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu82.4 Architecture: amd64 BootLog: CasperMD5CheckResult: unknown CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: None CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Mon Jun 24 09:17:56 2024 DistUpgraded: 2022-10-25 21:54:51,851 ERROR found exception: 'E:Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)' DistroCodename: jammy DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: nvidia/550.90.07, 5.15.0-107-generic, x86_64: installed nvidia/550.90.07, 5.15.0-112-generic, x86_64: installed ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, if not too technical GraphicsCard: NVIDIA Corporation GM206GL [Quadro M2000] [10de:1430] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Dell GM206GL [Quadro M2000] [1028:1190] InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-08-18 (3597 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Release amd64 (20140722.2) MachineType: HP HP Z4 G4 Workstation ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=en_GB:en TERM=xterm-256color PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-5.15.0-112-generic root=UUID=6d69722c-7116-4589-bbc5-d6a3fd34d987 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: xorg Symptom: display Title: Xorg freeze UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to jammy on 2022-10-25 (607 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 03/22/2023 dmi.bios.release: 2.91 dmi.bios.vendor: HP dmi.bios.version: P61 v02.91 dmi.board.name: 81C5 dmi.board.vendor: HP dmi.board.version: MVB dmi.chassis.type: 3 dmi.chassis.vendor: HP dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnHP:bvrP61v02.91:bd03/22/2023:br2.91:svnHP:pnHPZ4G4Workstation:pvr:rvnHP:rn81C5:rvrMVB:cvnHP:ct3:cvr:sku4DT50UC#ABA: dmi.product.family: 103C_53335X HP Workstation dmi.product.name: HP Z4 G4 Workstation dmi.product.sku: 4DT50UC#ABA dmi.sys.vendor: HP version.compiz: compiz N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.113-2~ubuntu0.22.04.1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 22.2.5-0ubuntu0.1~22.04.1 version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 22.2.5-0ubuntu0.1~22.04.1 version.nvidia-graphics-drivers: nvidia-graphics-drivers-* N/A version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:21.1.4-2ubuntu1.7~22.04.10 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev N/A version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:19.1.0-2ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.917+git20210115-1 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.17-2build1 ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug false-gpu-hang freeze jammy possible-manual-nvidia-install third-party-packages ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2070184 Title: Gnome terminal input lag To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/2070184/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2065476] Re: During boot, after grub selection screen, it appears "error: sparse file not allowed - Aborted. Press any key to exit."
Downloaded the boot repair disk: https://sourceforge.net/projects/boot-repair-cd/ Repaired it. Turns out that a lot of packages were not configured. Also not grub. The package which made the installer to trip over is: libhdf5-openmpi-dev and in particular the pre-removal script. (Reading database ... 1786310 files and directories currently installed.) Removing libhdf5-openmpi-dev (1.10.7+repack-4ubuntu2) ... update-alternatives: using /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkgconfig/hdf5-serial.pc to provide /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkgconfig/hdf5.pc (hdf5.pc) in auto mode update-alternatives: error: no alternatives for mpi dpkg: error processing package libhdf5-openmpi-dev (--remove): installed libhdf5-openmpi-dev package pre-removal script subprocess returned error exit status 2 dpkg: too many errors, stopping update-alternatives: using /usr/bin/h5pcc.openmpi to provide /usr/bin/h5pcc (h5pcc) in auto mode update-alternatives: using /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkgconfig/hdf5-openmpi.pc to provide /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkgconfig/hdf5.pc (hdf5.pc) in auto mode update-alternatives: error: no alternatives for mpi dpkg: error while cleaning up: installed libhdf5-openmpi-dev package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 2 Errors were encountered while processing: libhdf5-openmpi-dev Processing was halted because there were too many errors. Note that this libhdf5-openmpi-dev bug has been around for donkeys. But I guess for the others it might have been a different script which bombed during the upgrade. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2065476 Title: During boot, after grub selection screen, it appears "error: sparse file not allowed - Aborted.
