[Bug 272557] Re: Leaving an SD card in the slot when suspending creates a white nautilus window on awake

2008-11-13 Thread Bernard van der Velden
I do think you should make clear in your bug-description that your issue is
clearly about nautilus opening a window when you insert an SD-card while
suspended. The white window/screen nvidia-thingy is (to me) clearly another
issue which has already been reported and marked as a bug.
In other words, please don't mix up the two issues in one bug-report.

[Bug 94148] Re: atheros wifi card drop connection and low signal

2008-11-08 Thread Bernard van der Velden
Just another quick test I did: I screw off my antenna, my signal goes
"up" and after that I loose my connection.

[Bug 94148] Re: atheros wifi card drop connection and low signal

2008-11-08 Thread Bernard van der Velden
I also noticed the strange signal behaviour and sudden disconnects. I
compared the strength of several accesspoints nearby and it looks like
madwifi or network manager reverses the signal strength. Under Windows I
usually have nearly 100% and under Ubuntu nearly 0%, and disconnects
when it hits 0%. When I look at the accesspoints nearby I can confirm
this behaviour. I have listed the AP's nearby and I sorted them on
signal strength under Windows XP and Ubuntu 8.10. The list of Ubuntu is
almost and reversed one compared to the XP-list.

Strength AP from high to low strength

WinXP: Ubuntu 8.10:
Dorpssteeg* SX551E2FCEC

NETGEAR SpeedTouch6C82B6

CafeBertje NETGEAR

@home27524  @home27524

SpeedTouch6C82B6CafeBertje

SX551E2FCEC Dorpssteeg*

* = my AP

Also see the attached screenshots.

I think reversing the signal-strength should be an easy fix (although I
don't no where exactly to look) and it could possibly resolve a lot of
weird disconnects (with "full" -> actually bad strength).

A work-around I currently use is bending my antenna for some less
reception and NetworkManager doesn't hit 0% (which is actually 100%) so
I stay connected.

My system uses a Realtek 8185 (module rtl8180). Maybe others could check
and possibly confirm this behaviour.

[Bug 65022] Sil3112 sata and seagate-drives with mod15write-"fix" still slow

2006-10-10 Thread Bernard van der Velden
Public bug reported:

Like discribed in "https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/linux-
source-2.6.15/+bug/48979" the performance of seagate-drives with the
sil3112 sata-controller is still slow compared to winxp. The mod15
workaround makes the drives work, but the performance is less than half
of what it should be (especially writing)... In winxp I get about
~35-40mb/sec for reading/writing.

I'm running Edgy with the latest updates and the "Ubuntu
2.6.17-10.28-generic"-kernel.

sudo hdparm -tT /dev/sda:

/dev/sda:
 Timing cached reads: 2136 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1067.15 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 72 MB in 3.14 seconds = 22.95 MB/sec

[Bug 72061] Re: Sata errors on sil3112 - kernel not booting

2006-12-01 Thread Bernard van der Velden
I managed to get some error-messages on paper by writing them down ;) I
can't give the dump, but I do have the messages that appear before the
crash:

ata2.01: qc timeout (cmd 0xef)
ata2.01: failed to set xfermode (err_mask=0x4)
ata2.01: limiting speed to UDMA/25
ata2.01: failed to recover some devices, retrying in 5 secs
ata: abnormal status 0x7f on port 0x177
ata: abnormal status 0x7f on port 0x177

After that, it says the same, but than for PIO-mode instead of UDMA/25.

And than after reading some files the kernel crashes on "/lib/kref.c:32
kref_get" into a soft lockup with a dump.

This is all I could get by hand, hope it is useful :)

[Bug 72061] Sata errors on sil3112 - kernel not booting

2006-11-16 Thread Bernard van der Velden
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.19-5-generic

When using the feisty 2.6.19-5-generic kernel, I get the following error
several times and my system can't boot:

ata: abnormal status 0x7f on port 0x177

I have a sil3112 on-board serial ata controller and 2 seagate drives which both
have the "mod15write bug".
The speed on these drives was slow and CPU-consuming on the 2.6.17.10 kernel
from edgy, but working. Possibly this bug has something to do with the kernel
not correctly loading my drives.
Also my root file-system is on one of these drives.

[Bug 72061] Re: Sata errors on sil3112 - kernel not booting

2006-12-17 Thread Bernard van der Velden
I tried the new kernel and it looks like the problem has been solved
because the seagate errata fix is now applied. See the attached dmesg
output. I haven't done a full benchmark but the CPU usage seems to be
less than it was in previous kernels and accessing the drive seems
faster although it still isn't as fast as in windows:

sudo hdparm -tT /dev/sdb
/dev/sdb:
 Timing cached reads: 1074 MB in 2.00 seconds = 536.44 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 72 MB in 3.02 seconds = 23.85 MB/sec

I have to note that I installed a new harddisk for my root partition (WD
on sda/ata1.00) since I reported the bug, and I now use the seagate as a
secondary drive but I don't think this influenced the bug since it was
about the mod15 workaround and I can access the drive fine now.

[Bug 62962] Gimp crashes while doing nothing...

2006-09-29 Thread Bernard van der Velden
Public bug reported:

When I open a file and edit it a little, everything is normal. When I
continue some other work (like programming a website) and leave gimp
alone for a while, it crashes after a few minutes. I didn't touch gimp
in that time and it happens on a regular timebase. I have uploaded a
bug-report to http://www.vyper.dds.nl/_usr_bin_gimp-2.2.1000.crash

It's about Gimp 2.2.13 on Ubuntu Edgy.

Turning off accessibility ("System > Assistive Technologies > disable")
worked for me, so it seems there is a workaround for this bug...

I have an x64 system running Lucid (Ubuntu 10.04).
