[Bug 237325] Re: race condition when sudo can not resolve hostname
Before installing this update, any command called with gksu/gksudo would just hang without error message if /etc/hosts did not include my local machine name. I've originally worked around the original bug (#55172) by modifying the first line of /etc/hosts so that i reads "127.0.0.1 localhost johndoe-desktop", where johndoe-desktop is my machine name. Restoring the line to its original state brought the bug back, as expected. After installing the proposed update, gksudo/gksu no longer hangs if my machine name is not included in /etc/hosts, so i would say that it works as intended. Instead of using "gksu id", i used "gksu gedit" for testing. P.S. There is something strange that i notice if i completely comment out my 127.0.0.1 line in /etc/hosts. Running gksu gedit still works and the gdit window appears as it should. But upon closing of gksu gedit, the following message appears in my terminal: Usage:program_name [address][:port]Usage:program_name [address][:port] Sometimes, this message is repeated several times. This does not occur if the line is not commented out. -- race condition when sudo can not resolve hostname https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/237325 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 213104] Re: Package internet in ubuntu-docs: "press return" instead of "press enter"
Being a pack-rat, i have several keyboards at home, both working as well as broken. I just did a count and i have ten keyboards at home, including the two that are currently in use, but not counting the Mac keyboards. On all of the Mac keyboards that i have (from Mac128+ and up) and on most of the (8-bit) home computers, that key *is* called Return. However, on nine out of my ten PC keyboards, the big key (to call it that) has "Enter" printed on it, but never "Return". One of the keyboards just has an arrow printed on the key. Therefore i submit that calling a key "Return" when it usually has "Enter" printed on it, is confusing for users. Especially to new users who may never have heard of such a thing as a "Return" key. -- Package internet in ubuntu-docs: "press return" instead of "press enter" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/213104 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 201527] Re: gnome-appearance-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in meta_theme_get_frame_style()
I was a bit too hasty with pressing the "save changes" button. Here is what i did when i got the crash: - Open gnome-appearance-properties - On theme tab, choose a theme. - Click "Customize..." button - Select a different set of controls on the "Controls" tab (thumbs are not created, but that's a different bug, but for all i know, could be related) . - Close "Customize" window. - Close gnome-appearance-properties. At this point Apport notified me of the crash. The problem though, is that it's utterly unpredictable. The following WORKAROUND works for me. I've performed these steps 3 days ago and my machine have been running non-stop, using the latest Feisty kernel (2.6.20-16-386): Open menu.lst with: sudo nano /boot/grub/menu.lst Using Ctrl+W, Find the line that says: # defoptions=quiet splash and change it to: # defoptions=quiet splash irqpoll Close nano with Ctrl+X and confirm saving of file. Next, enter: sudo update-grub After a reboot, both NICs worked for me and kept working. However, and i want to stress this: This is only a workaround, not a fix as a fix would make this workaround redundant. I hope this works for other people as well. [Bug 1505014] Re: dolphin doesn't load video thumbnail services
I too can confirm the presence of this bug, and that the symlink fix worked. But not only that, I now not only have previews for my videos but also for PDF files, as well as fonts, which appeared as black boxes in Dolphin prior to applying the symlink fix. The issues with the fonts was supposed to have been fixed in KDE5.6 (pardon me whilst I am struggling to remember the correct name), but after my upgrade via backports, that issue remained a problem for me (I looked but can't seem to find the report for that bug). Now with the symlink fix, I have previews for fonts again, and who knows what started working now that didn't work before? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to dolphin in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1505014 Title: dolphin doesn't load video thumbnail services To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/dolphin/+bug/1505014/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Since several years (and several versions of Ubuntu), Virtuoso has been crashing consitently upon system startup. This is regardless of the PC it is running on, user account, or what have you. I really hope that this long standing issue will be resolved before Ubuntu 14.10 is released, it is really getting old.
