I was having the same problem here on T60. However, trying to hibernate now I 
get kernel panic.
Here is what I get:

[Bug 226158] [NEW] Rhythmbox stops when changing gnome fonts

When changing application font (Appearance->Fonts->Application font) the 
Rhythmbox music stops for a short time and then resumes again on Ubuntu 8.04. 
To reproduce, play some song on Rhythmbox and change application font (e.g. 
just change the font size ) while song is playing.

Expected: changing application font should not be noticed
Happens: rhythmbox music stops and resumes again
