[Bug 514739] Re: ripperX assert failure: *** buffer overflow detected ***: ripperx terminated

2010-05-26 Thread Arto
This is actually as far as I know a bug in libid3tag library. It happens
if trying to tag a track with track number of over 9. Apparently it only
affects mp3s that are encoded with VBR. As such, the bug also affects
every other program using id3tag library.

See here for more on this:

[Bug 119938] Re: Offset error with autocompletion (with color+newline in PS1)

2008-08-04 Thread Arto Karppinen
Im reopening this because with bash 3.2-0ubuntu18 im having this same
problem.

Recipe written by Björn Lindqvist wrote on 2007-06-30 still breaks bash
color prompt:

1. Set PS1="\033[01;37m[ \[\033[01;34m\]\w\[\033[00m\] \033[01;37m]\n\$\033[00m
"
2. Type "foo bar baz"
3. Press ctrl+a
3. Cursor should jump back to the beginning of the line, but instead jumps back
to "foo b." This is how it looks like with "_" being the cursor:

foo b_ar baz

[Bug 119938] Re: Offset error with autocompletion (with color+newline in PS1)

2008-08-05 Thread Arto Karppinen
Ah, yes. The default colorized prompt is also the way i came across this
bug.

And then found this bugreport, and then tested the exinsting recipe
instead of writing my own. Sorry about that :(

I also noticed that if you take the colorization away from the path in
the prompt then the problem goes away:

PS1='${debian_chroot:+($debian_chroot)}\[\033[01;[EMAIL PROTECTED]:\w\$
'

But if i remove the colorization from the [EMAIL PROTECTED] part the problem
remains:

PS1='${debian_chroot:+($debian_chroot)[EMAIL
PROTECTED]:\[\033[01;34m\]\w\[\033[00m\]\$

[Bug 173477] Re: Random freezes, probably sata and sis 5513 related

2008-01-23 Thread Arto Teräs
No, it does not look like that one. In my (our) case, the hard disk does
not go nuts neither does it calm down after some random period.

The machine in question actually belongs to a friend of mine so I cannot
say in detail how often the problem has occurred lately, but apparently
it has still continued.

[Bug 173477] Random freezes, probably sata and sis 5513 related

2007-12-02 Thread Arto Teräs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.22-14-generic

I'm experiencing random freezes on an Ubuntu 7.10 system installed on a
Acer AcerPower S290 computer. Every few hours or so, usually during disk
activity, most of the programs stop working. I am usually able to switch
to the text console and check dmesg, which shows:

ata3.00: failed to set xfermode (err_mask=0x40)
Buffer I/O error on device sda1, logical block xxx
(repeats several times)
Aborting journal on device sda1.
EXT3-fs error (device sda1) in ext3_reserve_inode_write: Journal aborted
Remounting filesystem read-only
sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] Asking for cache data failed
sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] Assuming drive cache: write through
...
Buffer I/O error on device sda1: logical block 0

The system has a SiS 5513 IDE/SATA controller and a SATA hard drive
(Western Digital). The drive seems to be fine, S.M.A.R.T. tests don't
report any problems. Therefore I'm suspecting the controller or the SiS
kernel driver.

Please note that this is not the same problem than e.g. bug #133666
(SATA drive not found during boot, same failed to set xfermode error
message). In my case, the drive is found perfectly fine during the boot
and Ubuntu installation went okay (already did that two times). I don't
know any exact method how to repeat the problem, it just happens
randomly, sometimes after 5 minutes, sometimes after 5 hours of use.

I tried to give the "irqpoll" option to the kernel as suggested for a
solution to the "SATA drive not found on boot with SiS chipset" problem,
but it didn't have any effect. I've also run memtest which didn't report
any problems.

Any ideas what to try next?

Regards,

Arto

[Bug 199483] [NEW] Panasonic laptop hotkeys broken in Gutsy

2008-03-07 Thread Arto Teräs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: acpi-support

My Panasonic R4 laptop hotkeys stopped working when upgrading to Ubuntu
7.10 (Gutsy). The problem is that pcc_acpi kernel module does not get
loaded => directory /proc/acpi/pcc does not exist => none of the hotkeys
work.

"Modprobe pcc-acpi" or adding pcc-acpi to /etc/modules fixes the
problem. Now most of the hotkeys work, with a few exceptions:

- screen brightness (Fn+F1/F2): works (OSD not shown)
- external screen on/off (Fn+F3): does not work (screen on/off works from
command line using "i810switch on/off". Acpi_listen reports nothing)
- volume controls and mute (Fn+F4/F5/F6): works (including OSD)
- suspend (Fn+F7): works
- battery indicator? (Fn+F9): does nothing, I don't really know what it is
supposed to do, perhaps show battery status on the OSD? Acpi_listen reports pcc
HKEY 0080 0089
- hibernation (FN+F10): hotkey works, waking up from hibernation doesn't but
this is another issue, will report separately

Battery power applet works fine. Screen brightness applet for some
reason does not work (says: Cannot get laptop panel brightness).

I'm not sure which package is responsible for loading the pcc_acpi
module and therefore the right target for the bug. The module is in the
kernel package but e.g. /etc/acpi/panabright.sh is in acpi-support. I
guessed the latter.

[Bug 199500] [NEW] Hibernation broken in Panasonic R4

2008-03-07 Thread Arto Teräs
Public bug reported:

Hibernation in my Panasonic R4 laptop worked in Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper) but
broke for some reason during the upgrade to 7.04 (via 6.10). I further
upgraded to 7.10 (Gutsy) and the situation is still the same.

The system clearly writes something to disk when I ask it to hibernate.
However, when I press the power button again, it does not even try to
wake up from the hibernated state. Instead, it just boots up normally.
After the boot, the swap space is not in use, apparently because there
is hibernation data in the swap partition. I can fix that problem by
reinitializing the swapspace with "mkswap /dev/sda1" and fixing the UUID
entry in /etc/fstab (the UUID entry is changed during mkswap).

One interesting note which may have something to do with this problem is
that in 6.06 (Dapper) the system hard disk showed up as /dev/hda and now
it is /dev/sda. Its a PATA (not SATA) disk if I'm not mistaken, kernel
says ata1.00: ATA-6: TOSHIBA MK6034GAX, AC101F, max UDMA/100.

I'm attaching the kernel log from a failed hibernate / resume attempt,
output of lcpci -vvnn and dmidecode.

I should also note that suspend to RAM works nicely now (it didn't in
Dapper).

[Bug 427670] Re: hp dv6 no sound hda Intel

2009-12-09 Thread Arto Jääskeläinen
Jaunty; I was able to get sound only using latest ALSA driver
Snapshot, compiled & installed by myself. Worked ok with older kernels
ok. New kernels: Can not get sound from Totem & Rhytnbox, other sounds
ok. Not recommended solution, will brake always when ever a kernel
update happens.

Karmic Koala: Just installed, no sound, Not yet test with latest ALSA
driver Snapshot, I hope problem can be addressed by Ubuntu developers
(ALSA update).

[Bug 490055] [NEW] Nautilus 2.28.1 stuck updating/getting directory contents --- Karmic Koala

2009-11-29 Thread Arto Jääskeläinen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Problem first time seen at Karmic Koala. When trying to open a folder
/Videot located under my home directory contents of that folder is shown
to have only one folder /Webcam in it but no actual files. If press
"Update" even that folder may disappear. A small spinning wheel stays
on all the time when mouse over Nautilus.

All files are however visible on command line using "ls /Videot"
command.

Strange things happen if I open that /Webcam folder first and go back
one level up: Files are again visible.

Problem is easily repeatable.

[Bug 575605] Re: Displayn detection fails in Lucid - laptop + Nvidia 7000

2010-05-10 Thread Arto Jääskeläinen
FYI / possibly related: Attempted to use rt-kernel (Real Time kernel)
instead of original Lucid kernel on another computer (Fujitsu Siemens
Pi3630 desktop) results in unstable system and wrong display resolution.
Those problems do not appear when running rt-kernel on Karmic in that
same computer, i.e. problem not kernel-only related but other things in
Lucid --- sorry I'm not able to point more exactly.

[Bug 498110] [NEW] Missing DNS addresses --- Huawei E160E---Karmic

2009-12-18 Thread Arto Jääskeläinen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mobile-broadband-provider-info

We have many reports about a problem with Karmic not getting DNS addresses at
all with mobile connection. Symtoms include missing DNS adresses in
NetWorkManager which results in unability to browse anything. Problem appears
usually always after reboot, after disconnect / connect mobile connection
problem may disappear.
As a temporay band-aid I have feeded DNS adresses manually to NetworkManager.
Huawei E160E used is european type.

[Bug 1771096] [NEW] Missing error message for mount failure and suggestion for action

2018-05-14 Thread Arto Jääskeläinen
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 16.04 (Linux Mint 18.3)
Related package: Not sure (system-d?)
Happens: During boot up

Regression:
You'll be greeted with "Welcome to emergency mode!" if something is wrong with
an additional device connected at /etc/fstab, for example a disk for backups.

1) That message doesn't give any idea whats's actually going wrong.
2) There is no option to skip the error.

Earlier there was an error message about failed mount and option "S" to
skip mounting.

Suggested test case:
Insert some non existing UUID for disk into /etc/fstab and you'll see it, just
an example:
UUID=369dd78c-afcf-4967-81c9-ae672588f158 /mnt/backup ext4 errors=remount-ro 0
1
In my case it was an external USB disk for backups. Leaving the cable
disconnected was a good simple way to test missing device.

[Bug 1757282] [NEW] Software Updater downloads updates automatically although downloads are deselected in the settings

2018-03-20 Thread Arto Teräs
Public bug reported:

The software updater downloads updates automatically, although I have
deselected automatic downloads in the settings. My settings are:

Automatically check for updates: Daily
When there are security updates: Display immediately
When there are other updates: Display weekly

With these settings, I would expect the updater to notify me about
available updates and ask if I want to download and install them. That's
how it worked previously. However, now when showing the available
updates the updater says they have already been downloaded.

I am running Ubuntu 17.10 (amd64) and the software-properties-gtk
package version is 0.96.24.17.

[Bug 1912228] [NEW] mail "-a" not accepting long "To:" field after o/s upgrade

2021-01-18 Thread Arto Jääskeläinen
Public bug reported:

Upgrade from Ubuntu server v16.04 to v18.04 made our group mail script to fail.
"mail -a" is not working like before, failing with:

"mail: Errors parsing message"

Problem is located at parsing "To:" field as additional parameter, which
has been working before upgrade of Ubuntu version.

Sample bash code:

mail_it()
{
echo "$data" | mail \
-a From:"$new_from" \
-a Return-Path:"$new_returnpath" \
-a Reply-To:"$new_returnpath" \
-a Subject:"$new_subject" \
-a Message-ID:"$new_messageid" \
-a MIME-Version:"$mimeversion" \
-a Content-Type:"$contenttype" \
-a Content-Language:"$contentlanguage" \
-a Content-Transfer-Encoding:"$contenttransferencoding" \
-a Auto-Submitted:"$autosub" \

}

That fails with long email address at "To:" field like this:
John Developer

while it still works with short address

[Bug 1780806] Re: Kernel 4.15.0 fails to boot with linux-modules-extra

2018-08-09 Thread Arto Teräs
I'm sorry for the delayed answer, I was three weeks on holidays without
my laptop. Now I'm back and willing to test what is needed to help fix
the problem.

At least the currently most recent kernels (4.15.0-30 from the mainline
and 4.15.0-31 from proposed) still both exhibit the same problem.

[Bug 1780806] [NEW] Kernel 4.15.0 fails to boot with linux-modules-extra

2018-07-09 Thread Arto Teräs
Public bug reported:

I upgraded my laptop (Sony VAIO SVS1511C5E, Intel Core i7-3612QM, NVIDIA
GK107M / GeForce GT 640M LE, original hard disk changed to a Crucial
SSD) yesterday from Ubuntu 17.10. to Ubuntu 18.04. The upgrade process
went smoothly without issues.

After upgrade, I cannot boot the new kernel version 4.15.0-23 in normal
mode. The boot process hangs immediately after displaying "Loading
initial ramdisk". In case I choose "Recovery mode", the system does boot
successfully with the same kernel. I also tried installing kernels
4.15.0-22 and 4.15.0-24, which both behave identically.

The problem seems to be related to the linux-modules-extra package. If
the package is not installed, the system boots also in the normal mode.
However, the display is not correctly recognized, it shows up as
"Unknown display" with 1024x768 resolution. That also happens if I
choose "Recovery mode" and "Resume boot".

The previous kernel 4.13.0-46 (with linux-modules-extra installed) works
without problems and the display is recognized correctly.

[Bug 1618550] Re: [HP 15-r085no Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)] Suspend/resume freezes

2017-04-18 Thread Arto Makkonen
Please find my replies below:

1. I'm seeing various issues after suspend / resume. With the latest
kernel builds, typical is that the GUI freezes shortly after resume.
Often resume does not complete at all and I only see black screen with a
cursor / underscore in the top left corner. I would be happy to do
tracing but unfortunately this has not been possible due to a strange
permission denied error (see comment #19).

2. Using 16.04 LTS currently

[Bug 1540168] Re: Update OpenCV version for 16.04

2016-03-11 Thread Arto Bendiken
Given that 16.04 (Xenial Xerus) is now feature-frozen, it seems unlikely
this is going to happen for the present LTS release.

This is unfortunate, because the pressing problem with retaining the
ancient OpenCV 2.4 in Xenial is that it doesn't include Python 3
bindings. The python-opencv package requires Python 2.7, which is not a
good state of affairs going forward into a new LTS:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/python-opencv

Note also the related bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/opencv/+bug/1516985 for
upgrading to OpenCV 3.x.

[Bug 1556156] [NEW] OpenCV lacks Python 3 bindings

2016-03-11 Thread Arto Bendiken
Public bug reported:

Because the packaged OpenCV remains at the obsolete 2.4 release even
still in 16.04 (Xenial Xerus), which is already in feature freeze, it is
looking as though 2018 is the earliest that an Ubuntu LTS release will
package OpenCV 3.x, which at that point will be already some 4 years
old. (And the currently-shipped OpenCV 2.x branch will be going on 9
years.) See bugs #1516985 and #1540168.

This is not a great state of affairs for such an important package, but
what exacerbates the situation is that OpenCV in Ubuntu (and in Debian)
currently altogether lacks Python 3 support. Namely, the current OpenCV
2.4 packages support only Python 2.7, since Python 3 support was
introduced only in OpenCV 3.0 [1], which was only packaged in Debian
(experimental) last December.

This has already been a pain point for OpenCV users (and some packages
requiring OpenCV) and is likely to become a burning problem over the
course of this LTS release's lifecycle. The robotics community (e.g. ROS
users), in particular, rely on Ubuntu LTS as a platform, and are going
to be rather rudely surprised both by Xenial's old OpenCV release and
still more by its lack of Python 3 support.

The relevant upstream Debian bugs are 799262 [2] and 792677 [3]. As
mentioned, OpenCV 3.0 has already been packaged in Debian (packages
libopencv-*3.0) and could be imported to Ubuntu. The Python bindings
(python-opencv) still remain with a Python 2.7 requirement, however,
which needs work upstream.

What can be done here? Would there be any prospect at all for a feature
freeze exception so as to ship OpenCV 3 for Xenial? Once the base
libraries are available, the Python 3 packaging is a much lesser problem
and could even be done via PyPI.

FYI, I opened bug #1556156 just now for the specific issue of the

that issue is contingent on first shipping OpenCV 3.0, and the
implications of failing to do so for the next LTS are not limited to
merely the question of Python support, I am copying the full ticket

[Bug 1618550] Re: [HP 15-r085no Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)] Suspend/resume freezes

2016-09-09 Thread Arto Makkonen
Here is a summary of the information that I can provide:

1. Which part of the process does the issue occur with, the suspend to ram, or
resuming from?
Please advise how you suspended specifically. For example:

  Issue occurs when resuming.
I have suspended using the following methods: i) Click GUI menu item
"Suspend" and
ii) Briefly press the power button

2. Please advise how you resumed specifically.

I have resumed by pressing space or the power button. The commands below were
run after
attempting to resume by pressing the power button.

3.-10. [various commands] + Please attach to your report the resume
trace mentioned below.

Commands run but I'm getting an error running the resume trace following the
"resume-trace
debugging procedure for finding buggy drivers" method:

  sudo sh -c "sync && echo 1 > /sys/power/pm_trace && pm-suspend"
sh: 1: cannot create /sys/power/pm_trace: Permission denied

Please advice.

11. Please provide the output of the following terminal command:

  cat /sys/kernel/debug/suspend_stats

Done. Please see my reply #10 above.

12. If you have a graphics related issue after resume (corruption,
display blank, etc.) please SSH into your machine and capture both
/var/log/Xorg.0.log and /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old. Please attach each
separately.

I have this issue but SSH connection was not possible during the blank screen
after resume.
Tried both WLAN and fixed connection. Apparently networking is down after
resume. Attached
both log files nevertheless. See the attachments in replies #10 and #11 below

Please help me solve the "Permission denied" error to enable tracing in steps
3.-10. Also, please clarify if you need a separate resume trace from every step
or just one trace after completing all of the steps 3-10.

[Bug 1749448] [NEW] HDFView does not show file contents

2018-02-14 Thread Arto Teräs
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1696456 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1696456

Public bug reported:

I've installed the HDFView program to view HDF5 files. The program
starts and allows me to open a file, but does not show anything about
the contents and structure of the file. As test files, I used samples
from the HDF Group:

https://support.hdfgroup.org/ftp/HDF5/examples/files/exbyapi/h5ex_d_alloc.h5
https://support.hdfgroup.org/ftp/HDF5/examples/files/exbyapi/h5ex_d_checksum.h5

When I launch hdfview from the terminal, the program starts but produces an
warning which may be related to the problem:
[warning] /usr/bin/hdfview: No java runtime was found
When choosing Help / Java version inside the program, it reports:
Compiled at jdk 1.7, Running at 9-Ubuntu

I have installed the openjdk-8-jre package and java --version reports:
openjdk 9-Ubuntu
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 9-Ubuntu+0-9b181-4)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 9-Ubuntu+0-9b181-4, mixed mode)

Ubuntu release: 17.10
Package version: apt-cache policy hdfview
hdfview:

The same problem is described in this Askubuntu discussion thread:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/907159/hdfview-working-in-ubuntu-17-04

I am using the same workaround, HDFView-3.0.0. downloaded directly from
HDF Group site. That works, and HDFCompass (from Ubuntu package hdf-

[Bug 1613437] [NEW] RT3290 Wifi stopped working after upgrade from 14.04 LTS to 16.04 LTS

2016-08-15 Thread Arto Makkonen
Public bug reported:

After today's upgrade to Ubuntu 16.04 Wifi is not working any longer.
Networks are not seen, and the wireless network indicator icon is
"empty".

The Wifi worked just fine with 14.04 before the upgrade, and it also
works in the Windows 10 Boot of this computer.

I've run the following commands and rebooted without results:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

The logs in this bug were created by booting without the Ethernet connection,
and by plugging in the Ethernet cable before sending in 'ubuntu-bug linux'.

I observed that the Wifi did work a couple of times when I booted with
the Ethernet cable plugged in. Error is back when booting without the
Ethernet cable.

Please let me know if you need additional information.

[Bug 1613437] Re: RT3290 Wifi stopped working after upgrade from 14.04 LTS to 16.04 LTS

2016-08-16 Thread Arto Makkonen
Thanks for your response. Just tested with the latest upstream kernel
rc2-generic_4.8.0 and the bug is still there.

Also with this version I noticed that sometimes booting with the
Ethernet cable connected wakes up Wifi as well, but this is not 100 %
repeatable. Without the cable I cannot activate Wifi or see any
networks.

Modified the error status and tags as requested.

[Bug 1705488] [NEW] rtl8812au stops working after kernel update

[Bug 1556156] Re: OpenCV lacks Python 3 bindings

2016-03-15 Thread Arto Bendiken
In the corresponding Debian ticket there is now a patch that adds a
python3-opencv package:

The patch looks well formulated. Given this, the packaging work for
OpenCV 3 seems complete. All that remains is the testing...

[Bug 1618550] [NEW] Suspend/resume freezes on HP Notebook 15-r085 with 16.04 LTS

2016-08-30 Thread Arto Makkonen
Public bug reported:

My HP notebook won't wake from suspend with 16.04 LTS, waited for the
latest 4.4.0-36 kernel update before reporting this bug. Computer goes
to suspend, but attempts to wake it up just start the fan (and HDD)
while the display remains black.

Also tested this with the mainline upstream kernel
4.8.0-040800rc3-generic. With this version there was different behaviour
but still a bug: the display woke up but Ubuntu was very unstable, did
not connect to Wifi and the GUI froze very soon after resume.

[Bug 1618550] Re: Suspend/resume freezes on HP Notebook 15-r085 with 16.04 LTS

2016-08-31 Thread Arto Makkonen
This issue did not appear after an update/upgrade - I recall having it
also with 14.04 LTS where I ended up never suspending the laptop (never
reported a bug myself before, though). Now my usage profile has changed
and suspend/resume is important.

To the upstream question - unfortunately this issue is not fixed by the
mainline kernel 4.8.0-040800rc3-generic. Added the kernel-bug-exists-
upstream tag.

2016-09-02 Thread Arto Makkonen
Suspend / resume issue still exists in 4.8-rc4. After resume, display
goes to login screen that looks normal except for missing wireless
status indicators. I was able to type in my password but the GUI froze
shortly after.

Please check that my bug tag and status changes are correct.

[Bug 1613437] Re: RT3290 Wifi stopped working after upgrade from 14.04 LTS to 16.04 LTS

2016-09-03 Thread Arto Makkonen
Good news - I removed my WLAN dongle to test with the built-in WLAN
again and I cannot reproduce this bug with 4.8-rc4. Strangely enough I
also cannot reproduce it with 4.4.0-34 or 4.4.0-36 either. Either the
bug has been fixed by an update outside the kernel or it is hiding.

[Bug 1618550] Re: [HP 15-r085no Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)] Suspend/resume freezes

2016-09-03 Thread Arto Makkonen
Thanks for letting me know that a new bios version is available (oddly
the HP support site did not show any available bios versions for my
laptop with 'Windows 10' setting, but F39 and F18 were available by
setting OS to 'Windows 8.1').

Unfortunately the bios update does not solve the problem (tested both
with 4.0.0-36 and 4.8-rc4).

Here is the requested output:

arto@Kotikone:~$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s
bios-release-date
F.39
05/26/2015

With the new bios, my notebook does go to suspend. When attempting to
resume, the fan turns on for a few seconds, wireless LAN led on F12
function key turns on and remains lit but the display stays black.

I'd be happy to provide additional logs or other information if needed.

[Bug 1618550] Re: [HP 15-r085no Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)] Suspend/resume freezes

2016-09-04 Thread Arto Makkonen
If you are referring to the '"resume-trace" debugging procedure for
finding buggy drivers', I'm still evaluating if this is beyond my
skills.

In particular I don't understand this paragraph:

"Caveat Emptor: Using the following debug suggestions will radically
change the values in your RTC chip, so much so that your file system
will think it has been eons since the last fsck. You can avoid a long
fsck delay by using 'tune2fs'. For example, 'tune2fs -i 0 /dev/sda1'
disables fsck on boot. But first you'll want to use 'tune2fs -l
' to find your current settings - look at the "Check
interval" setting."

Do I need to disable something in boot before or after the resume-
tracing proceduce? What is the consequence of file system thinking it
has been eons since the last fsck?

Sicne I don't wish to mess my computer, it would be great if someone
could provide fool proof instructions for this part, including suggested
terminal commands in the right order.

2016-10-23 Thread Arto Jääskeläinen
I hope the init script will be fixed to give some error message when
starting fails. Currently (I'm using v3.0.2) it fails without any
description of actual problem when "listen=YES" in /etc/vsftp.conf is
missing:

sudo service vsftpd start

That leaves user to wonder what's going on. No sign of error in any log,
no error on terminal. The executable alone will start ok in terminal,
giving idea to peek inside start script...

[Bug 1618550] Re: [HP 15-r085no Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)] Suspend/resume freezes

2016-10-30 Thread Arto Makkonen
Tested with mainline kernel 4.9-rc3 and the bug still exists.

Like discussed on Sep 9 in this same thread, creating the kernel resume
trace file fails

$ sudo sh -c "sync && echo 1 > /sys/power/pm_trace && pm-suspend"
sh: 1: cannot create /sys/power/pm_trace: Permission denied

Please help me solve the "Permission denied" error to enable tracing in
steps 3.-10.

[Bug 1618550] Re: [HP 15-r085no Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)] Suspend/resume freezes

2016-09-26 Thread Arto Makkonen
Tested with 4.8-rc8. It was possible to login after the resume and use
the GUI in offline mode for several minutes. Two observations: 1) Wifi
and networking are not available after resume, 2) Ubuntu hangs when
selecting "Shut down" from the menu.

Could this issue be related to the RT3290 wireless interface of this HP
model?

[Bug 617885] Re: gparted crash at start: glibmm-ERROR **

2010-11-15 Thread Arto Jääskeläinen

Just installed gparted_0.7.0-1_i386.deb from

http://launchpadlibrarian.net/58607123/gparted_0.7.0-1_i386.deb

That fixed my gparted 0.6.2 crashing problem at Ubuntu 10.10.

Thanks !

[Bug 676304] [NEW] Samba fails with files having colon in file name

2010-11-16 Thread Arto Jääskeläinen
Public bug reported:

smbd -V
Version 3.5.4

ver
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 10.10
Release: 10.10
Codename: maverick
Kernel: 2.6.35-22-generic
Bit width: 32 bits
Sound: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.23.

- Long file names including colon
- Samba with mangling disabled

I inserted "mangled names = no" to /etc/samba/smb.conf because I need to
see long file names. That works ok except with those file names
containing colon. I have a lot files containing colon in file name since
those files are originally named according to date and time. That is
very common with videos and photos. I have Linux-only environment i.e.
colon is a legal character in a file name.

Regression ? Please see:

[Bug 1155695] Re: mq_overview(7) contains outdated, inaccurate fs.mqueue.queues_max limit description

2014-02-19 Thread Arto Bendiken
Just to follow up on this, we have since abandoned the use of POSIX
message queues altogether so this issue is no longer an ongoing concern
for us.

Still, the mq_overview(7) man page continues to refer to the outdated,
inaccurate queues_max hard limit (INT_MAX instead of 1024) at least as
of Ubuntu 13.10.

[Bug 1155695] Re: mq_overview(7) contains outdated, inaccurate fs.mqueue.queues_max limit description

2014-02-22 Thread Arto Bendiken
Hi Michael,

Yes, we couldn't operate within the constraints of a queues_max=1024
kernel hard limit, and could not possibly require our customers to
install a custom-patched kernel, so we had to abandon POSIX message
queues altogether and switch to other forms of IPC. (Your book was
helpful in this regard, by the way, in gaining a good overview and
understanding of all available forms of IPC.)

Thanks for following up,
Arto

[Bug 1510099] [NEW] Asterisk 11 deb source wont compile

2015-10-26 Thread Arto Kuiri
Public bug reported:

Package: asterisk
Version: 1:11.7.0~dfsg-1ubuntu1

Compiling of asterisk stops, because patch: debian/patch/pjproject is
incomplete. It is missing all the changes to "configuration" file.

If you copy configuration file from:
http://svnview.digium.com/svn/asterisk?view=rev&rev=382900 it will
work.

deb source configuration file should be updated.
