[Bug 210153] Re: [Upstream] [hardy] calc: sum show err:529
Hello, I am digging up this bug, please let me know if it's better to open a new one. In reply to Chris Cheney, 2008-04-12: it seems to me that current versions of OpenOffice do _not_ show error 529 (or "#VALUE") but treat strings as zeroes instead. In particular: - OpenOffice 3.0.1 for Windows, downloaded in binary form from openoffice.org web site; - OpenOffice 3.0.1 compiled from FreeBSD ports collection; - the version that Nicole (2008-09-28) said to have downloaded all show the "old" behavior. Since OO 3.0.1 is the latest version, I think that this contradicts what Chris was told at GoOOCon: official versions of OpenOffice still do treat strings as zeroes. It seems to me that only the Ubuntu builds show an explicit error in this case. I've checked: - OpenOffice 2.4.1 included in Hardy; - latest version of OpenOffice for Hardy downloaded from ppa.launchpad.net (openoffice-pkgs). I therefore suggest to let the Ubuntu build behave the same as the official one. I think that not doing so would break, for some users, one of the best features of OpenOffice: being a platform-invariant program. -- [Upstream] [hardy] calc: sum show err:529 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210153 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1764823] Re: [bionic] python-matplotlib import fails
I have two Bionic x86_64 systems. One was showing the problem, the other was not. The problem disappeared after issuing: # apt purge python-backports.functools-lru-cache # apt install python-matplotlib The first command also uninstalled python-matplotlib. The second command re-installed python-backports.functools-lru-cache and _created_ the file /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/backports/__init__.py The two systems were installed at different times and are updated at different times as well; maybe this problem only appeared for a short time, and was later solved. [Bug 1103362] [NEW] Precise: Squid3 does not start if ACL's require DNS lookups
Public bug reported: On Precise, squid3 is started by a upstart job, while bind9 is not. This causes problem if squid3 needs to do DNS lookups when parsing its configuration file. [Bug 539515] Re: probing a non-existing floppy causes long boot delays
In response to Martin Pitt's comment #108: I am one of the floppy owners ``bugged'' by bug #441835. I agree (but is only my humble opinion) that the patch that has been submitted to this bug is a solution only for the people in category 3) according to Francisco Cabanas' comment. I hope that the solution can be found elsewhere... but I need your help to demonstrate it :-) The thing that mostly puzzles me is that, while udisks is trying to open the floppy drive, there is a very long sequence of poll() calls on other drives. This is what I understood from Sebastien Bacher's attachment #106. This seems strange to me, because polling of /dev/sr? should not depend on the slowness of the floppy drive. I am attaching a very small Python script to this comment. It just tries to open /dev/fd0 and then prints its results. That is: it does the thing that Martin disabled with his latest patch to udisks. Can someone please run this small script on a system without the floppy drive, but with the floppy drive icon, like helmut0 or Sebastien? The script should be run like this: sudo python disk_tester.py I guess it is not polite to ask people to run sudo-ed commands onto their systems, but you can actually _read_ from the source that the script will make no harm to your system. If the above script takes a very long time to execute, then Martin's patch is probably the only way to cope with the non-existing floppy drives: even a open() call takes too long, and the problem must be fixed in the kernel or somewhere else. But, OTOH, if _all_ systems take a very small time to run the script, then the problem may be in another part of udisks. Thank you in advance! ** Attachment added: "Python script that tries to open the floppy drive and prints the result" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/udisks/+bug/539515/+attachment/1535620/+files/disk_tester.py -- probing a non-existing floppy causes long boot delays https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/539515 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I merely want to state that the command works, and > one would have to analyze how comes the difference in behavior between > running this command and clicking the GUI. It is backed by the same subsystem > after all. If I understood correctly, the latest udisks version always reports that "no media is present" in the floppy disk drives. I suppose that when you click the floppy icon, Gnome asks usdisks if there is media in the drive. And the answer is always no. The command "udisks --mount /dev/fd0" probably does not do the media check, and that is why it works.
