[Bug 76449] Re: Cannot sort static playlists
I finally gave up on Rhythmbox and I am sticking with Guayadeque. You can sort static playlists AND you can export/import radio station lists, and it doesn't crash on me like Banshee always has. I recommend the PPA version instead of the default repository version, as Guayadeque is *gasp* actively developed. And you don't have to add plugins to record streams or search the Shoutcast directory; it seems like these items were baked in from the start. I've also tried Audacious, Clementine, Amarok and Exaile, but I keep coming back to Guayadeque for its combination of features and stability. I am done app-hopping now. [Bug 981548] Re: Quicklist transparent after changing panel opacity
Panel opacity is affecting quicklist opacity on my 12.04 64bit system too. My quicklist items are downright un-readable (see my screenshot). My panel opacity is set to 0.1, launcher opacity to 0.45, and "Panel Opacity for Maximized Windows Toggle" is checked to be active. [Bug 816145] Re: Atheros AR5001 wireless card "wireless is disabled by hardware switch"
This affects me too. When I woke up this morning, heard my laptop fan running because of a dialog box that needed attention, which in itself to me is a bug. Even though I had my ethernet cable plugged into the laptop, it was still trying to reconnect to a wifi network in the house, and there is no telling how long this dialog box had been up, causing my cpu to run hotter. So I pressed the physical wifi button on my laptop (which I never use, because I've always perceived it as not working in Ubuntu), as an attempt to turn off the wifi card temporarily, until I was actually away from my wired connection at home. Then I did today's system updates (via Synaptic), which seemed to include a new kernel (?), and shut off the laptop, since it needed to be rebooted for the update, and I was leaving for work anyway. Once at work, I started the laptop again, and now I have the "wireless is disabled by a hardware switch" issue. Ubuntu 11.04 amd64 is the only OS on my machine, can't do anything with Windows. Don't know if this situation is related to running the updates this morning, or solely from pressing the physical wifi button on my Compaq Presario CQ60-215DX laptop. sudo rfkill unblock all doesn't fix anything sudo rrmod hp_wmi doesn't seem to fix anything either, though the module is now unloaded forcing my grub2 menu and booting with an older kernel doesn't seem to do anything either -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/816145 Title: Atheros AR5001 wireless card "wireless is disabled by hardware switch" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/816145/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 723861] Re: Right clicking on the desktop still displays the “Create Launcher...” option.
I am confused by the advise above to launch the binary manually. I am using Natty and currently do not have gnome-panel installed, and thus the binary itself is not working. The terminal output prompts me thusly: gnome-desktop-item-edit --create-new The program 'gnome-desktop-item-edit' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing: sudo apt-get install gnome-panel So if gnome-panel will not be installed in Oneiric, I still don't know how to create a .desktop launcher file on the desktop. It does not get much easier than right-clicking on the desktop to create a program launcher. I don't understand why you are removing this functionality. If it actually caused some sort of problem in user testing, please, educate those users, change the wording on the right- click menu if necessary, because removing it creates a different set of usability issues. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/723861 Title: Right clicking on the desktop still displays the “Create Launcher...” option. [Bug 857702] Re: bluetoothd crashed with SIGSEGV in g_main_context_dispatch()
This affects me on a Lenovo Thinkpad T420i running Ubuntu 12.04 amd64 using Unity 3d. This error occurs shortly after login, and did not start occurring until about 3 or 4 weeks ago. Before that I was running 12.04 without incident. Things seemed to changed after a round of updates (which I think included a kernel update, but subsequently choosing the previous kernel from the Grub menu has not helped either this, or the next problem ...). This problem also did not seem to start occurring until another -- possibly related -- problem started occurring, after the same updates cycle. Periodically, after suspending my laptop, then taking it to my workplace where I was only using Wi-Fi -- without incident -- and then resuming my laptop, after a few hours the networking dies. The Wi-Fi icon still looks normal (and Wi-Fi networks are still listed), but the Dropbox icons in my panel go offline and I cannot connect to the Internet using web browsers, Thunderbird or the like. At the same time as this is happening, attaching an Ethernet cable will not work; the networking icon in the panel does not change to a "wired" icon, it remains as a wireless icon. I ultimately have to reboot to get Ethernet to work (and rebooting only restores Wi-Fi for another few hours, so I avoid using Wi-Fi), and now I take a patch cable with me everywhere. And it is after this reboot that I receive the bluetoothd error dialog. On the other hand, after leaving my workplace and attaching my Ethernet cable at home (after suspending the laptop once again), I don't have any error, unless I tried to "disable wireless" via the networking indicator at work. So it seems I have to leave Wi-Fi enabled or I get more crashes. It seems like my new networking problem is related to this bluetoothd crash, or maybe I am mistaken, I don't know enough to tell. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/857702 Title: bluetoothd crashed with SIGSEGV in g_main_context_dispatch() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/+bug/857702/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'm trying to bump this bug since it expired. I've done what was requested of me and am willing to do more, but no one seems to respond. I've also noticed this seems to be a pattern with Rhythmbox bugs in particular. This seems odd since Banshee is now no longer the default player. Does Ubuntu prefer that Rhythmbox bugs be posted on a different tracker rather than Launchpad? If no one is going to respond to bug reports on Rhythmbox, then I will stick with using Guayadeque for music library management. ** Changed in: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Status: Expired => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/887867 Title: Library monitoring not working, rescan shows nonexistent files and folders, no more "missing files" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/887867/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 950059] [NEW] show-desktop-icons setting change (and reversion to default state) renders desktop unusable
Public bug reported: In dconf-editor, at the entry for org/gnome/desktop/background, the show-desktop-icons checkbox seems to be unchecked by default, even though icons seem to show by default on the desktop. Toggling this checkbox to the checked state, and then back to the unchecked state (the way I found it), makes the graphical environment "blow up" for lack of a better term. Once I unchecked the box (to return it to the way I found it), and then attempted to switch workspaces via the keyboard, the virtual desktops grid overlay seemed to spawn copies of itself. (I am using 16 workspaces in a 4x4 grid.) At the same time, the screen just overall seemed to be infinitely "vibrating" (in a visual sense) as long as the ctrl+alt+arrow keys were held down. Additionally, moving the dconf-editor window (or any other application window) left a visual trail of the window's prior positions on the screen. This trail did not disappear once I stopped dragging the window. Additionally, hitting the Super_Left key opened the Dash, but the Dash seemed to no longer respond to typing after opening. In short the desktop became unusable when restoring this setting to the way I found it. Only toggling the checkbox to checked (which is the way I would have expected to find it to start with) seems to make the problem go away. This is just wierd to me because I've never altered this setting previously, but the graphical shell was hitherto working just fine. I'm not even really sure where the problem lies (Gnome, Compiz, etc). I'm not sure if dconf-editor (in dconf-tools) is the actual problem, or just the messenger, but it is what I was using when the behavior occurred. I am attaching a screenshot. I am using Ubuntu 11.10 32bit with Unity 3D. I don't use Ubuntu Tweak. The only reason I even saw the checkbox is because I was looking in dconf-editor for a gsettings string I could use later in a post-install script for Precise Pangolin to automate changing my desktop background color. [Bug 887867] [NEW] Library monitoring not working, rescan shows nonexistent files and folders, no more "missing files"
Public bug reported: $ apt-cache policy rhythmbox rhythmbox: Installed: 2.90.1~20110908-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 2.90.1~20110908-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 2.90.1~20110908-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status Using Ubuntu 11.10 (32 bit), and using Rhythmbox 2.90.1, I set my preferences to watch for changes in the library folder. Then I make changes within a given subfolder and/or to the subfolder itself, for example, renaming via Nautilus, Soundconverter, or Cowbell, or a combination thereof. The next time I launch Rhythmbox, it shows nonexistent files in the library. For example, where there is only one file, there are two other copies still shown; one copy is the way the file/folder/both was previously named, and the other copy is in a non-existent folder way outside of the library, with a peculiar name, "/home/dg/(null)/filename" (if the "null" folder exists, I cannot locate it). In the attached screenshot, the file circled in red is the only file actually present. This did not happen to me in previous versions of Rhythmbox, at least, not that I am aware of. I'm not sure it was even occurring during the week or two I had done a dist-upgrade from the ~64 bit~ version of Natty to the Oneiric RC (and thus the GTK+3 version of Rhythmbox) before doing a clean install of the 32 bit version of the Oneiric final release. Unticking and reticking the watch for changes in library option combined with restarting Rhythmbox and rebooting the computer has no effect. Manually right-clicking on a file in the library view in Rhythmbox, and selecting "move to trash" has no effect other than to place a red error icon on the row of the file in question. Only selecting "remove" in the right-click context menu actually removes it. * This time around, after the fresh install of Ubuntu 11.10, and installing Rhythmbox, and uninstalling Banshee, the only thing I did before setting my library folder was to manually copy and paste some iradio entries into the ~/.local/share/rhythmbox/rhythmbox.db xml database file before it got cluttered with thousands of non-iradio entries (songs). The "missing files" function in the library UI was briefly working today, as was the "import errors" function, now no files show up as missing, even though they are actually missing. I don't know what changed to cause the different behavior. * Oddly, this bug seems like it may have cured a separate, longstanding bug I've had with Rhythmbox: usually when I restarted Rhythmbox in the past, a restart took two attempts, the first attempt resulting in a crash and the second attempt actually restarting Rhythmbox. So far this does not seem to be happening, but if it resumes I will note it here. ** Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: library-monitoring nonexistent-files rescan rhythmbox -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/887867 Title: Library monitoring not working, rescan shows nonexistent files and folders, no more "missing files" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/887867/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 887867] Re: Library monitoring not working, rescan shows nonexistent files and folders, no more "missing files"
This is what I did to try to break rhythmbox again: while rhythmbox is open, in Nautilus I made a temporary music library folder with just one song (as opposed to 30,000 songs, which seems to make the debug output files massively long) changed the library folder in rhythmbox settings and closed rhythmbox renamed the ~/.local/shared/rhythmbox/rhythmboxdb.xml file to a backup copy, to start from scratch opened rhythmbox (output file 01 started) in nautilus, renamed the song file (the only song in the library); rhythmbox seems to update the file properties correctly in nautilus created album folder and dragged file in the new subfolder; in rhythmbox, one file still shows, but in the properties dialog, the location is now /home/dg/Desktop/(null) opened the file in cowbell, changed tag info, saved the changes (which also renames the file itself); still no "missing file" status showing in the rhythmbox sidebar, still only one file showing up, location still /home/dg/Desktop/(null) opened file with soundconverter, to convert from 192 bitrate to 128 bitrate; this creates a new file in a subfolder; no updating in rhythmbox yet, so went to menu bar to open preferences (which historically has appeared to force a rescan of the library); that did nothing, so i unticked and attempted to retick "watch library for new files" and rhythmbox crashed (in the terminal, the message was "segmentation fault") restarting rhythbox (output file 02 started) same erroneous file (just one though) shows in library window, try to play it, but it will not play in the settings, the "watch library for new files" box did not get ticked before the segfault, so reticking it now; library does not update in rhythmbox closing rhythmbox via window title bar button; does not stop rhythmbox though (does not terminate in the terminal) open system monitor and rhythmbox is listed as sleeping with channel being futex_wait_queue_me; selecting end process restarting rhythmbox (output file 03 started) now the library shows 3 files, 2 of which exist in nautilus, deleting the original 192 bitrate file, dragging the new 128 bitrate file up from the subfolder, and deleting the subfolder; the rhythmbox library does drop one file, but still shows the nonexistent file at /home/dg/Desktop/(null); the rhythmbox side pane does update to show a missing file, which i right click and remove in nautilus I rename the file; rhythmbox updates it correctly in nautilus, I make a new folder and drag the file into it, and delete the old folder; the one correct file now shows up in the rhythmbox library at /home/dg/Desktop/(null) restarting rhythbox (output file 04 started) I try playing the "null" files and then the GUI seems to go into an endless loop; i click the window title bar button to close rhythmbox, and then a third file shows up and the loop stops i try to play the newly displayed file and the rhythmbox window dims and seems frozen I clicked the x in the window title bar and selected "force quit" restarted rhythmbox (output file 05 begun) the correct file does now play, the two "null" files are still listed, and no "missing files" are listed closing rhythmbox, done trying to break it Unfortunately, I cannot figure out how to replicate the situation where the old 192 bitrate file still shows up (not at a "null" location, but at the actual pa that did in fact exist a few minutes ago) Hope this helps even without that additional condition being replicated ** Attachment added: "debug output (using separate files, as they seemed to get overwritten upon restart otherwise)" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/887867/+attachment/2594441/+files/rhythmbox-debug-01.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/887867 Title: Library monitoring not working, rescan shows nonexistent files and folders, no more "missing files" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/887867/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 807141] Re: Unity/Compiz seems to conflict with Conky
I thought trying to reproduce it might be difficult, but actually, I just rebooted my machine, logged in through the GDM screen, and waited for the Conky start script to run automatically (there is a 10 second delay in the script, for when I am connecting to a Wi-Fi network, so that the portion of my Conky config that fetches my external IP can actually connect to the Internet). After the startup script ran automatically after logging in, the first actual action from me was to hit the Super key, to open the Dash. The attached screenshot shows what happened. (I had difficulty using the Take Screenshot program too, I would click on the button in the dialog box to save the image, but nothing would happen until I did something else. My clicks were more likely to be registered on the program shortcut in the Dash behind the dialog box. Would it be helpful at all to see the Conky config files? I can zip them up if needed. There are three partial files and one common file, they are concatenated into a subdirectory as new files each time the bash script runs automatically on reboot or logging back in. Is there a way I can export my Compiz settings to upload here, if that would be helpful? I've been editing these Conky config files in the last few days, I don't remember if I saw this stacking order problem before then. For a long time my left-most Conky window would not even start yesterday, it was only a small artifact near the panel until I rebooted once or twice. I've seen other anomalous issues recently that may or may not be related, like having my Firefox window become semi-transparent so that I could see the Synaptic window behind it (which seemed to disappear after either restarting or logging out and back in, I don't recall which). There have also been times where hitting the Super key (or clicking the BFB) only changed the appearance of the Springboard and the panel, but did not actually open the Dash. Not sure if Conky is playing a role in that. ** Attachment added: "screenshot-after-restart" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/807141/+attachment/2196679/+files/unity-conky-after-restart-001.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/807141 Title: Unity/Compiz seems to conflict with Conky To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/807141/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 796162] Re: Flash 10.3.181.22 flickers in Firefox 4 but not in Chromium (64bit)
This happens to me as well on Ubuntu 11.04 64bit. And for me the issue does not occur with Chromium either, only in Firefox 4. [Bug 807141] [NEW] Unity/Compiz seems to conflict with Conky
Public bug reported: versions: Ubuntu 11.04 amd64) Unity: 3.8.16-0ubuntu1~natty1 Compiz: 1:0.9.4+bzr20110606-0ubuntu1~natty2 conky-all: 1.8.0-1ubuntu1 - I'm not entirely certain it is Unity and/or Compiz, but since it is windows overlapping incorrectly, I assume it has something to do with the window manager. The most noticeable thing happens when I open the Dash, and then the Dash slides behind one or more of my three adjacent Conky instances (windows). I have attached a screenshot. I can try to determine more information if someone wants to give me an idea of where to look. This happens intermittently. In some cases my left-most Conky window was not being drawn at all until rebooting (even logging out and back in would not help). Sometimes alt-tabbing seems to help some of my current Unity / Compiz problems, but it didn't seem to resolve the issue of the stacking order of the desktop, Dash, and Conky. Also sometimes entering killall conky in the terminal would still leave one of the three Conky windows open no matter what, until I rebooted. ** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: compiz conky order overlap stacking unity windows -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/807141 Title: Unity/Compiz seems to conflict with Conky To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/807141/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 807141] Re: Unity/Compiz seems to conflict with Conky
It is not just Conky that is affected. Sometimes the Dash stacks behind an active application window, for example, Firefox. I had stopped using a "Natty quasi rolling" PPA a few days ago and initially thought that fixed things (as well as other issues like the Unity panel randomly dying), but in the ensuing days, after reboots, the stacking problem is still going with the default Natty versions of Unity and Compiz. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/807141 Title: Unity/Compiz seems to conflict with Conky To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/807141/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 807141] Re: Unity/Compiz seems to conflict with Conky
Just a note, I ran the apport command as instructed, and it generated a dialog box that asked me if this problem was related to Unity rather than Compiz. The only options in the dialog box were yes and no. Since I don't really know, I just clicked "No" to get beyond that dialog box. I just assume that a stacking issue would be related to the window manager, but I really don't know. And just to reiterate, the stacking issue happens with windows other than Conky too. Today it was doing it a lot, the Unity Dash was staying behind different application windows on different workspaces (e.g, Firefox, Gedit, Nautilus, Gnome Terminal). When that happens I can't do anything else with my computer until I realize that the Dash IS open, but behind another window, and then hit the Super key once more to make the Dash close. And then later in the day the stacking problem just cleared itself up for no apparent reason. It is very mysterious.
