[Bug 246081] Re: Shift key not working with compiz as active window manager.

2008-11-15 Thread Anmar Oueja
Hello All:

This continue to happen in Intrepid (8.10). Here is the work around in a
more descriptive way:

1. Go the System > Preferences > CompizConfig Settings Manager. If you don't
have CompizConfig Settings Manager installed, you do so by opening a terminal
and typing "sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager".
2. Launch the CompizConfig Settings Manager. On the left column there is a
"Preferences" button. Click it.
3.Click on the "Reset to Defaults"

That is it. You are done :)

Unfortunately, the bug continues.

[Bug 390315] Re: crash when browsing over the pictures

2009-06-21 Thread Anmar Oueja
The file is in the grid view, but when I drag and drop it, it says:
Error stating file '/home/anmar/img_1510.jpg': No such file or directory

Hmm.. but the file is in the grid however, nothing shows up in the edit
view. I see why the crash is happening but if you don't have the file on
the Disk due to somebody moving it somehwere you shouldn't crash and you
should simply mark the image with an X or move it to a different
category of images that can't be located on the drive.

[Bug 353419] [NEW] display is shifted to the left on LG L246WP 24" Screen over HDMI

2009-04-01 Thread Anmar Oueja
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Hi:
I have a thinkpad T400 with Intel 4500 chipet hooked to a docking station,
which is hooked up to a 24" LG L246WP LCD screen via DVI-HDMI cable. Using the
GNOME Display tool, I turn off the laptop screen and turn on the LCD (proper
resolution is detected).

The problem is that the Image on the LCD screen is shifted to the left
so I only see the 3/4 right most of the screen. Please see attachement
for visual confirmation. I have tried with and without compiz, I tried
panning multiple screens but this issue continue to persist.

It is important to note that Intrepid worked with this same exact
hardware and BIOS without any issues.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

[Bug 356594] [NEW] Selecting a wireless network fails instantanously

2009-04-06 Thread Anmar Oueja
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

After I updated today's update at approximately 21:43 UTC 20090406, I
had to restart (there was no kernel update) the network-manager package
requires a restart.

Now when I select a wireless network, I get a "Wireless network
disconnected" instantly. I used to use intrepid but updated to Jaunty
when Beta was released.

[Bug 182716] Re: bcm4306, bcm4309, bcm4311, bcm4312 with b43 : Authentification with AP doesn't work.

2008-04-21 Thread Anmar Oueja
Hello Guys:

I did some sniffing around the B43 mailing list and found a lengthy
thread about the ASUS WL-138G v2, which uses Broadcom Corporation
BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller (rev2).

It seems that Asus mucked with the registers (sorry if I am using the
wrong wording). There is a patch for 2.6.26 kernel but it is more of
"detect this ID then do something specific".. What it boils down to is
that Asus enabled some Bluetooth interference trigger that is causing
B43 kernel module to freak out and that is why it is timing out.

Here it he patch for whoever is interested. Just remember, it is for
2.6.26 kernel . Also the entire thread if very interesting
and worth a read. You can get it here

I am not going to fart around with this card any more. I will go and get
me a simpler card for about $25 bucks cause it sounds like ASUS messed
this card up.

2010-02-08 Thread Anmar Oueja
Hello Paul: Good feedback. Unfortunately, the fix is more of a
regression than anything else. This is a synaptics toucpad so it
shouldn't be too difficult to enable it. I am sure it is a kernel thing.

I suggest you try Lucid Alpha2. Some work went into it to support the

2010-02-02 Thread Anmar Oueja
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apport

When I do an "ubuntu-bug linux" it asks me if I tested the upstream
kernel. When I say "No" it points me at the Mainline kernel http
address. It would be super easy if I can get a clickable link instead of
just straight text. This way I can click on it and launch my browser and
see it.

[Bug 516329] Re: TouchPad buttons don't work on HP Mini 210 (1030NR)

I tried the latest kernel from the PPA (http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.33-rc6/) and had the same result.

I am very eager to resolve this because it is a big bug for all of the
HP mini 210 netbooks and they are popular on the net and Amazon.

Even with fglrx, the system hangs. I suspect it does that because of
BIOS. And possible lack of acpi. Support. Can somebody point me at the

[Bug 353419] Re: [gm45] display is shifted to the left on LG L246WP 24" Screen over HDMI

2010-03-30 Thread Anmar Oueja
Here is the story. When I filed this bug we did I did a fair bit of
testing with the upstream with no success. When I tried the same with
Windows XP, I got the same issue. When I told upstream, they decided to
close it since it is obviously it is a hardware issue that even XP can't
fix.

After much digging and trying I discovered the following:

- The problem stems from a weird firmware in these screens that makes think
they are in TV mode and not in PC Monitor mode hence the shift.
- I think the newest release of Xorg has a bunch of EDID enhancement that might
be worth testing. I will be happy to test if there is a PPA for the new Xorg
stuff. I have an ATI (GM780) desktop machine.
- I tried Lucid with my thinkpad (GM4500HD) and ATI and have the same problem
so this is an Xorg and not an intel driver issue.

Rrecommended action:

- File a bug with the Xorg team (not the intel driver team)
- Review this: http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/showthread.php?t=310242 .
They try to get the EDID and force X to use it. I tried it but it doesn't work
on both intel and ATI.
- I am more than willing to help figure this bug out. Let me know how I can be
of assistance.

[Bug 549065] [NEW] cofusing the user who wants to rip music from their CDs

2010-03-26 Thread Anmar Oueja
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When I right click on the CD in the left pane, I get "extract to
library" (extract.png screenshot).

When I hover over the CD icon, I get "copy to library" "copy to

In my opinion, neither of them makes sense. They both do the same thing
so why can't we name them properly. Copy to library is misleading. It
should be rip .. itunes uses that terms, why can't we use it as well.

[Bug 424533] [NEW] X locks up when running Compiz. Killing Compiz, makes X responsive again

2009-09-04 Thread Anmar Oueja
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I installed Karmic from scratch. all is working fine except suddenly X
freezes and nothing works. Not even the mouse pointer. When I go to the
console (running in modesetting here), I see something like this in the
Xorg log:

(II) intel(0): EDID for output DVI1
(II) intel(0): EDID for output DP1
(II) intel(0): EDID for output DVI2
(II) intel(0): EDID for output DP2
(II) intel(0): EDID for output DP3
(II) AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for VT Switch

I have to to do "killall -9 Compiz.real" to get my X responding again.

2020-01-31 Thread Anmar Oueja
One more thing. Debian testing works fine on the same laptop with the
same bios set and the sleep state settign in this bios is also setup to
"Linux" as per this guide
(https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Lenovo_ThinkPad_X1_Carbon_(Gen_7)#Sleep/Suspend)

[Bug 1702348] [NEW] XPS 15 (9560) fails to resume using 4.10.27 kernel

2017-07-04 Thread Anmar Oueja
Public bug reported:

Steps to repro:

1. Enable the Ubuntu 16.04 pre-releases in the Sources app

2. Apt-get update and dist-upgrade. This will upgrade the kernel to
4.10.0-27 (4.10.0-27-generic #30~16.04.2-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jun 29 16:07:46
UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux)

3. Reboot and use the system and log into Unity 7. Use the system a
little bit then close the lid or select "suspend"

4. Upon resuming, the mouse pointer stops working and you get kernel
dumps on the command line.

5. This system worked perfectly with 4.8.0-54 kernel. without any
issues.

[Bug 1763156] [NEW] Bluetooth doesn't reconnect to my headsetup post resume from sleep

2018-04-11 Thread Anmar Oueja
Public bug reported:

Steps to repro:

* Cold boot the laptop
* Pair it with bluetooth headset
* Listen to music
* Turn off the headset or turn off the bluetooth on the laptop
* Play music, sound comes out of the laptop speakers
* Turn on the headset back on or the bluetooth on the laptop
* Headset reconnects with the laptop and audio plays from the headset

-- all the above is expected --

* Suspend the laptop
* wait a minute or two for the headset to power down
* Resume the laptop
* Turn on the bluetooth headeset
* It doesn't automatically reconnect to the laptop (not expected behaviour)
* Launch Gnome Settings and select Bluetooth and force the headset to connect
* It connects for 2 seconds then disconnects (not expected behaviour)

The only to get the headset to reconnect again is by restarting the
bluetooth.service using systemctl.

The following patches were added to the 5.48 version in Fedora and they
did fix the problem. Perhaps worth you adding them as well. Please see

2018-04-15 Thread Anmar Oueja
As much as I love to have this fixed in the final release, I understand
Daniel's hesitation. The point is to try and keep things as stable as
possible prior to releasing. Good news it is fixed and it is just a
matter of time before it is released.
