[Bug 291681] Re: Missing jpg-textures in Celestia

2008-11-09 Thread Andrew Tribick
At the Celestia forums we have already had one bug report related to
this issue: http://www.shatters.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=13178 --
however the problem is with the odd way that the Ubuntu developers have
decided to handle the packages for Celestia.

The reason that the textures are missing is that they are in the package
celestia-common-nonfree. As far as I am aware the decision to split
Celestia's datafiles in this way has been taken without consulting the
Celestia development team. The problem is that this package is not
installed when Celestia is installed via the Add/Remove menu. This
behaviour is bizarre: why would the average user want an incomplete
installation? If the licenses are a problem, move the entire program to
nonfree.

[Bug 1512027] Re: open of device pixma:MX7600_... failed: invalid argument

2017-08-06 Thread Andrew Tribick
I had this issue also with a Canon Pixma MG5250 on Zesty. Upgrading to
the 1.0.27 version of libsane from Rolf Bensch
(https://launchpad.net/~rolfbensch/+archive/ubuntu/sane-release) fixed
it.

[Bug 1735151] [NEW] Gwenview adds additional trailing slashes to most recent folders

2017-11-29 Thread Andrew Tribick
Public bug reported:

Depending on how a file is opened in Gwenview, the relevant folder may
be added to the "recent folders" list with an additional trailing slash
(e.g. file:///home/username/Pictures// instead of
file:///home/username/Pictures/). This results in the possibility for
having the same folder included in the list twice.

I have tested the following behaviours:

Gains additional trailing slash:
* File menu > Open file...
* File menu > Open recent > select a file
* Home page > Recent Folders > select a folder
* Home page > Recent Files > select a file
* Browse view > Location navigation (text mode) > enter directory name with
trailing slash

Does not gain additional trailing slash:
* Browse view > Location navigation (click mode)
* Browse view > Location navigation (text mode) > enter directory name without
trailing slash

I would expect that only one trailing slash is present on the end of the
URLs, i.e. the behaviour of the second group.

[Bug 1512130] [NEW] Cannot drag Firefox tab to new window over desktop

2015-11-01 Thread Andrew Tribick
Public bug reported:

Firefox allows the user to move a tab into a new window by dragging it
out of the window. Since Kubuntu 15.04 this fails if the end point of
the drag is over the desktop. The mechanism still works if the end point
is over an application window (does not seem to matter what the other
application is, so long as it is not the desktop background)

Reproducible: always

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Firefox
2. Open a tab
3. Drag tab out of the Firefox window to a point where the desktop background
is visible. The new window is not created and the tab remains in the original
window.

Expected behaviour:
In step 3, a new Firefox window should be opened that contains the tab that was
dragged out of the first window.

[Bug 1512135] [NEW] Cannot add Telegram account to Telepathy

2015-11-01 Thread Andrew Tribick
Public bug reported:

On attempting to add a Telegram account to the instant messaging, I
receive the following error message:

"This IM Account cannot be created - a Telepathy Connection Manager
named 'morse' is missing or it cannot handle protocol 'telegram'. Please
try installing morse with your package manage."

After attempting sudo apt-get install morse, there is no change in this
behaviour. Best-case scenario I can see is that the message is
indicating the wrong package to install and I need to install something
else instead, in which case message needs to be fixed.

Reproducible: always

Steps to reproduce:
1. Click on instant messaging icon in panel
2. Click "Configure Now..." button
3. Click the "Create" button.
4. Select "Telegram" from list.

Actual behaviour:
Error message suggesting installing morse is displayed, regardless of whether
or not morse is installed.

Some interface for configuring Telegram connection is presented.

[Bug 1512129] Re: Headphones not detected at startup

2015-11-30 Thread Andrew Tribick
Further investigation - this seems to be because I am running with a
separate /var partition and the alsa systemd services are being started
before the /var partition is mounted.

I have tried altering my fstab to include the x-initrd.mount option as
suggested at http://superuser.com/a/841748 on the /var partition (so the
options end up being defaults,x-initrd.mount) but this appears to
prevent the partition from being loaded altogether. Searching for this
brought up a Red Hat bug:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1249513 - not sure if
Kubuntu 15.10 would be affected by that?

[Bug 1521744] [NEW] Entry in fstab with x-initrd.mount not mounted at boot

2015-12-01 Thread Andrew Tribick
Public bug reported:

I am running a system with a separate /var partition - this causes
errors due to various services being started before the /var partition
is mounted. As an attempt to fix this, I have tried adding the
x-initrd.mount option to the entry in /etc/fstab for the /var partition,
according to
http://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/systemd.special.html
this should add the partition to the sysroot-usr.mount target.

Example fstab entry

UUID={*irrelevant to bug report*}  /varext4
defaults,x-initrd.mount0 2

What actually happens is that this causes the partition not to be
mounted at all after boot. Using sudo mount -a does nevertheless
successfully mount the partition.

[Bug 1521769] [NEW] Attempt to configure Google Hangouts crashes Telepathy

2015-12-01 Thread Andrew Tribick
Public bug reported:

On attempting to configure Google Hangouts, the Telepathy application
crashes.

Reproducible: always

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open IM Contacts
2. Go to the menu, select Instant Messaging Settings
3. In tab Online Accounts, add a Google account.
4. Select the Google account from the added list, on the right hand side there
will be an entry "Google Hangouts"
5. Click the "Configure..." button

What happens:

After a couple of seconds, the Telepathy application closes

What should happen:

Presumably there should be some options for configuring the Google
Hangouts.

This behaviour can also be obtained by going to "Online Accounts" in
System Settings, or trying to add an account via the Instant Messaging
icon in the System Tray.

[Bug 1527311] [NEW] grub2.02~beta2-29ubuntu0.2 fails in Windows 8 UEFI Secure Boot

2015-12-17 Thread Andrew Tribick
Public bug reported:

Since the upgrade to grub version 2.02~beta2-29ubuntu0.2, Secure Boot in
Windows 8 UEFI mode fails to launch GRUB, instead it falls back to the
Windows boot loader. In order to be able to dual boot I have had to
switch to Legacy Secure Boot. (These are the terms used in the ASUS UEFI
Bios Utility)

I have attempted to downgrade the packages grub-common, grub-efi-amd64,
grub-efi-amd64-bin and grub2-common to 2.0~beta2-29 but this did not
solve the problem: I recall that the Muon Update manager put up a
notification about changes to other packages when the upgrade appeared
but I cannot remember what the dependent packages were.

[Bug 549696] Re: missing textures for planets

2011-07-23 Thread Andrew Tribick
As a Celestia developer, I can say it is definitely clear that this bug
is affecting users as evidenced by several threads in our forums from
Ubuntu users asking about why the textures are missing - these are
obviously the people who have been bothered to report it, rather than
just uninstalling the application as being bug-ridden. Have to say it is
quite frustrating to see our hard work being so casually undermined by
this frankly rather stupid decision about the packaging: how does
serving a broken application help anyone?

In any case we now have Celestia 1.6.1 out, maybe it would be possible
to take the opportunity to package it in a more sensible way?

[Bug 2084340] [NEW] KDE Plasma session resets to English (US) keyboard layout on login

2024-10-12 Thread Andrew Tribick
Public bug reported:

After a fresh install of Kubuntu 24.10 "oracular", it appears that
regardless of what I do the keyboard layout always gets reset to English
(US) on login to the Plasma session.

Steps to reproduce:

Open System Settings, go to Layouts, remove "English (US)", add "English
(UK)". Observe that typing now works with the UK layout.

Log out.

Log back in.

Try typing # or some other character that is in a different location on
the UK keyboard - you will get the result from English (US). Re-opening
System Settings will show the list containing only the "English (US)"
keyboard.

I have tried dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration but without
success.

[Bug 2084341] [NEW] GRUB2 fails to launch Windows 10 in dual boot setup

2024-10-12 Thread Andrew Tribick
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Kubuntu 24.10, or after a fresh install of Kubuntu
24.10 (including after a fresh install of Windows 10), GRUB2 is no
longer able to launch the Windows 10 entry, failing with "error: cannot
load image".

To reproduce:

Install Windows 10 with Secure Boot enabled (or get a machine with an existing
Windows 10 installation)
Install Kubuntu 24.10
Reboot
Select the Windows option in the GRUB2 boot loader.

Expected behaviour:

Windows 10 is launched successfully.

Actual behaviour

Get a message "Error: cannot load image", then a message saying "Press
any key to continue". At this point GRUB2 is in some kind of corrupted
state and can't launch ANY of the items successfully, necessitating a
restart of the machine.
